I've always heard it as "Drinking to distraction's just a waste of time," but maybe I'm crazy.
And I love "sitting on the yellow line" - I think I'll play it that way from now on. Maybe it *is* blasphemous, but Elliott changed his lyrics around a lot, so I don't feel too bad about doing the same. |

Does anyone else think it's interesting that they had this song about going out to California and being so excited, then went on to write another song (Back Home) about and then an entire album (Lights and Sounds) about hating LA? |

The race point aside, I think you're right. Then again, the entire album is about getting out of LA. I like the idea of not being able to see the sky at night, and the "city lights burn" - it goes back to Lights and Sounds. |
