Tool – 4 Degrees Lyrics 18 years ago
I know I sound like an idiot when I say this, but it could be a pro drug song, telling people that there's a whole new person inside of them when they're high. The only reason I've always thought that is because "Get up" means to get high.

Freeing yourself from yourself could be releasing all the tension and trivialities when you're not on drugs.

But, I guess to each his own.

I'm pretty sure it's "Remember I'll always love you, as I claw your fucking throat away."

Tool – Parabol Lyrics 18 years ago
Think really hard on this one, folks. THIS SONG IS NOT ABOUT SEX!

It's mocking religion, as quite a few of Maynard's songs do. The "Body holding me" symbolizes the shell that religion claims our spirits exist in. The "We are eternal, all this pain is an illusion" is mocking religion, again, by saying that religion suggests something as ludicrous as our life being just a "test" by some god before we get to exist eternally in heaven.

Breaking Benjamin – Shallow Bay Lyrics 19 years ago
This may sound far-fetched, but I still think it's Ben's response or maybe even his backing up of Maynard James Keenan(Tool's) song Aenima, which is about California and all of its trivialities breaking off from the United States and sinking into the ocean.

The Smashing Pumpkins – Rocket Lyrics 19 years ago
To me, this song is about how Corgan differs from:

1)Who he used to be
2)Who he wants to be
3)What the media has made him

And how he wants to return back to the first 2 that were mentioned.

Not to talk down upon The Smashing Pumpkins, but Corgan used a LOT of fillers in his song. Some of that shit doesn't even make sense.

Tool – Aenema Lyrics 19 years ago
Stay with me on this one and read up on Jungian psychology.

I think L.A. is just symbollic for all the shit that people take it upon themselves to worry about and care about, when in reality it doesn't mean shit at all. New cars, sports, television, gambling, whatever your hobbies are, they're all fucking worthless. The time we spend doing that could be used to question societies uncontested "rules", better our own lives, and bettering the lives around us. If we all stopped getting distracted by stuff we deem important and focus ourselves on shit that really is important, the world could be beyond explanation.

Flushing it all away is getting rid of all the distractions.

Just my crazy ass interpretation.

Tool – Aenema Lyrics 19 years ago
"Don't just call me pessimist
Try and read between the lines"

I think the vast majority of people are underestimating Maynard on this one. Right in the lyrics he's saying not to think of him as hating Los Angeles, but to think of what the true meaning of this song is.

Just think for a second, would a song with the meaning so surfaced have taken Maynard, a genius, six months to write? Tool isn't even one of my top five favorite bands and I can say that Maynard is the best songwriter I've heard to date.

I have no idea what the true meaning of this song is, but I refuse to believe it's as visible as Maynard's hate for Los Angeles.

Stone Temple Pilots – Plush Lyrics 19 years ago
I agree with the rape/murder theory on this one.

"When the dogs begin to smell her, will she smell alone?"

I believe what he's saying/asking is that when the crime dogs sniff her out in the woods, will she be the only one that the dogs smell/will she be the only one he murders.

Crash Test Dummies – Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm Lyrics 19 years ago
Continuing with the abuse theory, The last part with the parents and the church could mean how some kids think that having parents that care about them, have them come home right after school, and go to church every sunday is a bad thing, when in reality, there are kids that get beat by their own parents. The kids that get beat by their parents think "I guess this isn't so bad, atleast I don't have to go to church everyday/go home early/ get good grades/etc, which in reality, stands no comparison to getting beat by your parents and having to make excuses for them when you've done nothing wrong at all.

Staind – Could It Be Lyrics 19 years ago
Im not seeing how this is about his early childhood. To me this is just about people not accepting who he is in some inner circle maybe or possibly a lover. This to me is just saying that theres some stuff that we all do that others cant stand and that nobody is perfect. "Could it be that sometimes I say things just to disagree" Alot of people do that, including me. Its just one of those things that you have to live with, which to me, is what this song is about. Thats just my POV, though.

Breaking Benjamin – Home Lyrics 19 years ago
Theres nothing else this song is about. Its about the wizard of oz. I dont know why you all look for some hidden stellar meaning to all of BB's songs. There isnt any. All of them are either inspired by movies or plainly outlined. Ben even said that there wasnt any hidden meanings in an interview. Infact, many of them. Polyamorous, Ben said, wasnt really about anything. If you want something stellar then go listen to Staind. They're really stellar, good live, and aaron lewis has great vocals. Breaking Benjamin is an awesome band, they play good live and have nice sounding albums, but they're not good for the "Stellar" and "Hidden" meanings people seem to come up with in EVERY ONE OF THEIR SONGS. Just my 2 cents.

Staind – Black (Pearl Jam cover) Lyrics 20 years ago
Sorry, but almost all of you are blind to the real facts. Yes, I am a staind fanboy, mostly for Aaron Lewis. Still, how can anyone say that this is betweem Eddie Vedder and Aaron? Aaron did this song with his voice and an acoustic guitar. Vedder had his whole band there. Aaron's sounded more emotionful and passionate to me, but then again different people like different things. Also, whoever said Aaron Lewis didnt show enough emotion obviously doesnt listen to staind. Listen to a song from Torment, then Dysfunction, then Break The Cycle, then 14 Shades of Grey. That basically shows you how vocally flexible Lewis is. He goes from screams and lows equivalent to present heavy metal and then went to highs that arent even comparable to anything. Like I said, Im a staind fanboy and this is just my opinion.
