well that last statement is more of a commission and how you interpret the song can influence what that last sentence means to some...

I'd ditto that one, you would have to be really narrow minded to refuse that, its neutral and its totally ok to admit when youre being a jerk, people respect you more, i know i would

Thrice – Blood Clots And Black Holes Lyrics 20 years ago
although i think this song is a little more open to interpretation to us than we think; i agree with goffshas17 but i think you should explain your point instead of a one liner, because that makes you seem a little narrow minded saying it IS about one thing and not backing up why.

why i agree is that it almost has that allusion to hate in that people use hate as a crutch. to most people medicine is a crutch. hate is the epitomy of evil and causes hearts to fail. i believe that the blood clots and black holes behind the ribcage refer to the heart being blocked from any type of saving grace to free hate from the heart and yet has the black hole consuming everything in a blanket of decietful hate. i also agree that it could be about how medicine is too much of a crutch especially for kids on anti-depressants. they feel so depressed they feel the need to blame it on something to avoid dealing with deep emotional scars (which sounds like an allusion to the song "for miles") so they take drugs to help "relieve" stress and pain.

Thrice – Weight Of Glory Lyrics 20 years ago
interesting, theres no posts from people trying to deny that thrice isnt a christian band...i wonder why? probably because 1) its from the book weight of glory 2) it derives directly from scripture, any other interpretation of this song would fall through the floor

dude, thriceman as soon as you find out from dustins lips that this song is about children in africa youve got no legs to stand on. you cant interpret the meaning of a song and say its absolutely correct. im not saying mine is so why should yours be absolutely correct based on some connection between words on their website? swallow your pride man, i know im not going to make you see it my way because the fact that everyone is different but seriously dude dont let your own biased opinion of something block you from having an open mind

thanks for the support Lionof judahisking, im pretty sure i know where you stand, but id have to caution you because youre contradicting yourself a lot there. saying that the interpretation of torch to end all torches is definetly about God; yet you say "even if dustin himself said what the song meant to me, i would refuse to only take the song for what it meant to him." i would totally disagree with you on this stance of interpretation because i believe it is deathly important to know authorial intent. and by the way the writers of the constitution talked in a general term not so that we could interpret in the way we wanted but because life was simpler back then and they didnt think anyone was stupid enough to mess it up. the constitution is pretty black and white on most subjects too, you have to know the context for something to interpret it. ok ill put it into perspective for you: say you got a letter from a girl you liked and it stated that she liked you and wanted to get to know you better. you dont know what she means. you want to interpret it the way she meant it otherwise you could be expecting something youll never get. she could mean "lets be friends" and that kinda hurts some, and she could mean that she likes you and wants to hang out with you. dont get caught up on loosely interpreting things just because theyre vaugue enough to put your own meaning in there, you could end up in a world of hurt

i think you guys miss my point but thanks to lightnigh.j for backing me on this. but my point is LOOK in the section when you post a comment...what does it say? "what does this song mean TO YOU?" that means that it doesnt matter what one person believes over another, what dustin meant by this song has been lost in our battles to determine who is right and wrong, if you are sooo concerned with what dustin meant by "image of the Invisible" then do yourself a favor and call him up or ask him the next time you go to a show. authorial intent is probably more important to me than it is to you because youre not looking at the whole context, youre just using word association that the group that they sponsor as a band is named "invisible children" well it also talks about God as invisible so to draw parallels just because they exist is like saying that i steal bycicles because im part mexican, it just doesnt fit, interesting coinsidence but doesnt fit... and who are you "thriceman" to determine that whatever you say is right?? who died and made you dustin? the fact that you saw something on their website doesnt mean anything, unless you sat down and talked with dustin for a few hours about this song i dont think that you will ever know the "REAL MEANING"

wow! such insight you all have. WE are the image of little children in africa?? yeah give me a break give thrice a break, give the people on here that say its about one thing a break. So what if someone thinks its about christianity? why cant you just do what this site is geared towards see the question? "what does this song mean to you?" not what the hell do you think of others opinions?

i would say that "while someone weaves a spell" would be like the producers and people helping make this album and sheduling shows are doing their job (weaving a spell) and a million stars looking on in witness to our dreams is like either everyone around them (peers, other bands, other famous people:thus stars) or it could be since in the corus he says we are "children of light" in essence we shine like stars and so all thier fans and/or people that are children of light/sons and heirs of grace (follower of Christ: because He is the light) we look on in witness to their dreams of performance.

in any case im not bringing "religion" into thrices lyrics, im interpreting them that way, thats just my take

Beautiful. wow this is one of this first chain of meanings i have seen where there wasnt much bashing of eachothers ideas. i congradulate you all. i wanted to state to wrinlybill (if you ever check these) that yes it can be taken many different ways. as much as anything can be taken many different ways. i believe that the only true/right interpretation of the song is the one that the author intended (i.e. what if you were passing a note to someone that said meet me in the gym, so theres several ways that can be taken: they might show up and stick out their hand and do a corny "nice to meet you" or say they dont know what time so they interpreted it to mean in a week) songs are very hard to interpret especially when we dont know exactly what they mean or have the author sitting in with us to tell us all. anyways thats enought of my shpiel, later all

ps anyone else hear some beloved breakdown seeping in there?

Thrice – Hold Fast Hope Lyrics 20 years ago
Well apparently some people on songmeanings miss the whole point of songmeanings.net. first i want to spell something out for you: look at the question in the box that you write before it gets posted the question is "what does this song mean to you?" i think that "SHIT" by fadetoflashes is a very valid meaning. i dont agree with it but i dont see why we have to try to prove our point to people who have thier own opinions on here especially when this site is designed for opinions, not batteling-which in this case im not but i hope that everyone who posted on this song sees my retort.

second this song means to me: i love it, its a great song; i see alot of imagery as the idea of jonah, through living in the 21st century we tend to put preunderstandings about things in with thought when we interpret ideas. when jonah was swallowed by a whale how many thought that it was just a big cavern with giant ribs as a roof? like in pinoccio where hes swallowed its a big cavern or cathedral of raised ribs that jonah lifts up his prayers to God. hey no offence to Eddy67 but just because Dustin mentioned something that has to do with catholicism doesnt mean he is. i mention stuff about other religions almost everyday but that doesnt mean that my faith is one that i mention once in a song.

Thrice – For Miles Lyrics 20 years ago
I agree, its totally not religion, thrice said theyre not a "christian band" if i was in a band i would hate to be labeled as that. then you get associated with bands like reliant k (eww). its love. true love, whether that entails some kind of religion to you thats your choice. my personal views is that its a perfect reflection of Christ. NOT RELIGION. for me this song reflects what relationships are truly to be. everyone has scars, how we use them -either for bitterness, or to help heal others- is up to us, but ultimately one day those scars will dissappear and what we will be left with is our vunerable selves before the altar of God (thats my personal belief, im not bashing those of others, i just dont agree).

so also i looked online for the sheet music for this song because its so beautiful. and what came up was a bunch of crap like "piano on a thrice cd??? no way" i was like, sheesh does anybody listen to deadbolt? or am i the only one that appreciates older thrice stuff? i know im not but whatever

First of all i would like to say that I think all of you guys are awesome. you each have your own ideas and you each express them. i would like to caution you all in that bashing on others here is kinda pointless, no one is going to win an argument about whether or not someone in the band believes something or that a song means a certain thing because each of us has a different belief and theres nothing anyone can do or say to change that, its entirely up to the individual. i kind of agree with "DTminimaggit" religion is pretty evil but then again im a follower of Jesus, i wouldnt consider myself a christian but then again its mainly because of association with all that is evil inside of christianity. if you ever want to talk to me about that my email is kingyork@gmail.com.

ok now to the song, this song is so beautiful, the first part though it is in reference to the apollo movie, i think, reflects what thrice feels on their tours. the stress of being so far from home but their message is out there so theyre "moving for all mankind". then their families and friends at home are praying for them to return safely "million heads are bowed..." sometimes it feels lonely out there on the road and you feel like giving up but the hope they have and the reasons come from not truly being alone but haveing that fulfillment in Christ. unseen love, sons and heirs of grace, children of light, all of those are attributes of God as described in passages like 1John. i love this song. Peace be with you all
