Music Box Lyrics

We move for all mankind, a million miles from everything we've ever known
And we're on their hearts and minds, a million heads are bowed to bring us safely home
Hemmed in by emptiness, a million ways that everything could be undone
This hollow in my chest is filled with reasons not to sing but I found one, I know

We are not alone, we feel an unseen love
We are sons and heirs of grace
We are children of a light that never dims
a love that never dies, keep your chin up child
And wipe the tears from your eyes

In sleep we saw ourselves, a million years
We had been waiting there it seems
while someone weaves a spell, a million stars look on in witness to our dreams

We feel an unseen love
We are children of light
Stand ready and tall, reflect the light

I can't believe theres actually people out there that try and say Thrices lyrics aren't Christian. Those people must have never read much of the bible, cause its all in there. Ignorance is a sad thing.

docsdaname1999, they say they are not a christian band, but that doesnt mean they aren't christian. and it is completely obvious that Dustin's songs are biblicly related. stop limiting your mind, thats what all of these songs reach out and say.

now on to the song...this song, was written about the dream that an astronaut on one of the apollo moon missions had while he slept on the moon, as shaolin2419 greatly explained, but then again, we are talking about thrice, and mainly dustins lyrics, which are very generalized. and almost all of the time relate to some kind of biblical meaning.

First of all i would like to say that I think all of you guys are awesome. you each have your own ideas and you each express them. i would like to caution you all in that bashing on others here is kinda pointless, no one is going to win an argument about whether or not someone in the band believes something or that a song means a certain thing because each of us has a different belief and theres nothing anyone can do or say to change that, its entirely up to the individual. i kind of agree with "DTminimaggit" religion is pretty evil but then again im a follower of Jesus, i wouldnt consider myself a christian but then again its mainly because of association with all that is evil inside of christianity. if you ever want to talk to me about that my email is kingyork@gmail.com.

ok now to the song, this song is so beautiful, the first part though it is in reference to the apollo movie, i think, reflects what thrice feels on their tours. the stress of being so far from home but their message is out there so theyre "moving for all mankind". then their families and friends at home are praying for them to return safely "million heads are bowed..." sometimes it feels lonely out there on the road and you feel like giving up but the hope they have and the reasons come from not truly being alone but haveing that fulfillment in Christ. unseen love, sons and heirs of grace, children of light, all of those are attributes of God as described in passages like 1John. i love this song. Peace be with you all

take a look at the very last sentence in dustin's paragraph and try to tell me that he wants the song to have only one meaning.

Simply put, a song about being "children of God". Beautiful lyrics.

I agree completely, it is a fantastic song. The lyrics meld beautifully with the melody and typical of many Thrice songs, it has a theological feel to it. We are not alone, a comforting thought to Christians such as myself. Finishing note of "Stand ready and tall and reflect the light" is pretty darn cool.

I have never seen a band (short of mewithoutYou), use biblical references and scripture as well as Dustin does on this album. This album has a message that I think is vital to all mankind. We all our created in the image of God and he has a plan for us to do amazing things. We just need to accept it.

Dustin wrote in his comment for this song:

"The lyrics to this song were inspired from a documentary on the Apollo moon missions called 'For All Mankind'. The second verse specifically is talking about a dream that one of the astronauts had the first night he slept on the moon. The film is absolutely amazing and Brian Eno did the whole soundtrack to it which is beautiful. I showed the lyrics to my friend who had first shown me the documentary, and he didn't pick up on the connection until I told him, which was great because I wanted the lyrics to have a much broader scope than just a literal interpretation."

You can find this in the booklet that accompanies the CD.

As strong as Dustin's biblical allusions are, this song, to me, is about how there are often people in the world that are cared for so strongly, but at times feel alone, which, in essence, goes to prove that despite our empty feelings inside, there will always be people that care strongly enough to "bring us home" to the place where we should be, even if there are "a million ways that everything could be undone."

it's a dual meaning song. Thrice is not christian, but Dustin does believe in God and Jesus, and the teachings of Jesus about how to treat one another are a great message regardless of what you believe. "Music Box" is about the awe inspired by the vastness of space and the impact it has on people and the feelings it inspires. Dustin says there is a literal interrpretation of the song which I believe is hope and love.

Dustin's lyrics seem to be very broad yet specific so that people can see where he's coming from but are left to make up their own minds on what it means to them, because ultimately, he knows what they means to him and what they're about for him, but cares about what others get from them.
