| Bad Religion – Destined for Nothing Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Short and sweet. No matter what you do in life, after you die, you will end up like everyone else who's died - just a corpse feeding the worms. | |

The first verse obviously directs you to the point that forces beyond the control of man will eventually kill each and every one of us. Greg describes how things eventually break down in time and as far as human beings go, we die. That would normally be where we would "meet our maker." The second verse shows how mainstream religions force their way upon all of us despite all the "torment" we go through until we have no choice but to "submit" even though our brains generally believe logically instead of faithfully. Every belief in God is flawed in some way or another. The third verse is a masterpiece that is seen pretty frequently in BR's songs. The first line is what the mainstream religions want us to believe. "I know there’s no reason for alarm". The church wants us to believe that if we practice Christianity, there's no chance we will be forgotten by a god. That's why there would be no alarm. But he goes on changing to the realistic view, "But who needs perspective when it comes to pain and harm?" That is basically saying, "why are we trying to put other people's suffering into perspective by trying justify the suffering of this world by saying it's god's will?" The chorus after this verse is where you really start to understand it. He wants someone to challenge his way of thinking because in the end, we will all understand that there is no god that loves us. If there is one, he revels in misery of his creations. It is the truly blind ones that cannot see this and still call it "God's Love." |
