Tool – L.A. Municipal Court Lyrics 19 years ago
I don't think it's quite so deep... the reason being that Maynard stated in a 2001 interview, transcribed here,

http://toolshed.down.net/articles/index.php?action=view-article&id=January_2001--Farmclub.com.html

that this song is "a tribute to life in Los Angeles," and supposed to be a look at "how sick the red tape is out here." On an unrelated note, Danny Carey was never jailed for unpaid parking tickets. I don't know where that idea came from.

Tool – Jimmy Lyrics 19 years ago
who was arguing? everyone was already doing exactly what you said... applying the song to thier own life and experiences, or else they wouldn't be here. the whole point of this site is to take whatever youve gained from listening to the song, and post it where everyone can see...so that we can try to better understand what the artist was trying to communicate through the song. I mean...the comment box im writing in right now says, "what does this song mean to you?" and i do agree that it isnt always good to label everything. it seems to take away from the impact that the lyrics have when you know EXACTLY what they mean, because then you can no longer apply your own experiences to them. they become impersonal. on the other hand...i came here to find the significance of the number eleven in the song. and if everyone was just talking about what it meant to them, instead of trying to figure out what it meant, i might never have found out. so...i guess...i give a fuck...

anyway...i always thought maynard was talking about his inner child because of the reference to his old name. and i also have to agree xlynx9's theory... it makes the most sense...and, it seems to be mathematically sound too, i guess...

also, does anyone know what maynard is whispering between 2:54 and about 3:03?

here's something interesting that shows up when you write out the lyrics exactly.

Having some kind of psychedelic experience [x8]

Nirvana – You Know You're Right Lyrics 19 years ago
courtney probably didnt pull the trigger, but there is substantial evidence to suggest that she had something to do with it, at least. In my opinion, there is far more than enough evidence to reopen the investigation. If nothing else, she drove Kurt to the brink of insanity during life. I'd say thats bad enough...

but i digress, this song is quite obviously (as was previously stated, and i don't mean to piss anyone off by repeating again) about leaving courtney. in acctuality, some parts of it make it sound like its more about escaping courtney. like that line about not having to hide. on a sidenote, its the song that finally made me notice nirvana, and its still my favorite by them today. It just has a certain feel to it.

Thats 'cause its not probably not paper and its nowhere maynard's hand. its on the part of the desk closest to the viewer. It does look like a barcode, but i don't know...the number seems kinda random, there might be a significance to it. otherwise why would it be there, right? I honestly have no clue what the hell it is or what it means. Anyway, thanks for the heads up qutzl...I keep staring at it.

System of a Down – Lonely Day Lyrics 19 years ago
Daron said this in reference to Lonely Day, "I write a lot of songs and some of 'em I never thought worked for System so I didn't take 'em to System, and that's one that I wasn't going to take into the band...I kind of [regretted] it."

So, if the composer doesn't like it, i think that means i should be able to say the same. I can't stand this song. And not because i get uncomfortable whenever System does something that's supposed to be peaceful or ballad-like. In my opinion this song is bland, and boring(except for that great guitar solo at 1:37). The only reason everyone likes it is because it has a generalized message that everyone can relate to; we all have lonely days. There might be deeper anti-emo or war related meanings but i dont' think so. Daron probably wrote it about his friend who comitted suicide (the one discussed in Soil from the self-titled album). in conclusion, i guess the best way to put it is, i own every single one of System of a Down's songs (to the best of my knowledge) and this was the first one i can honestly say i didn't like. They can do way better. They've clearly proven that...

System of a Down – Kill Me Now Lyrics 19 years ago
the subject matter sounds like System, but the lyrical style doesn't. I don't think they wrote it, and i haven't ever heard them perform it. Ergo, i don't think it should be associated with them in any way.

System of a Down – Nuguns Lyrics 19 years ago
yeah, the mandolin duet is great, but i think it would be better appreciated in another song. anyway, Nugun is an estate in Australia, a city in Japan, a crappy Japanese techno group, a type of wine, a brand name C-R syringe, a seemingly deadly gun cleaning spray seen here,

http://glarp.atk.com/2006_Images/Gunslick/pages/NuGun.htm

and last but not least, whatever the hell this is,

http://www.starcraft.org/fanfiction/ShortStories/nugun

(all courtesy of google)

as for the meaning of the song, im sorry, i haven't a clue. It does seem to be about prostitution, but considering, like Jabbahutt said, Serj has never written anything that doesn't pertain to war, politics, or loss, i still maintain that there is a deeper meaning to it. But i guess there's a first time for everything, right? In fact, how do we know Daron didn't write this song? he seems to write alot about sex(i.e. Bounce, She's Like Heroin). However it doesn't sound like Daron's style of lyricism. He's usually much more blatant and descriptive. This sounds cryptic, mysterious, and nonsensical in places. so i guess i wound up back where i started; i haven't a clue.

System of a Down – Bubbles (feat. Arto Tunçboyacıyan) Lyrics 19 years ago
I always wondered too. Then i messed with the speed and equalizer and one of the noises turned out be a prerecording of Serj, repeating "remind you, did you." Now that doesnt make much sense, until i realized that after Serj (in the foreground) says "may i remind you" 6 times, Daron yells in a nasal voice "send me to the bubble jungle." So then it lines up, and should look like this...

May I remind you(remind you, did you)
May I remind you(remind you, did you)
May I remind you(remind you, did you)
May I remind you(remind you, did you)
May I remind you(remind you, did you)
May I remind you(remind you, did you...
send me to the bubble jungle?
May I remind you(remind you, did you)
May I remind you(remind you, did you)
May I remind you(remind you, did you)
May I remind you(remind you, did you)
May I remind you(remind you, did you)
May I remind you(remind you, did you)
[rasping] Your life is in a bubble jungle!
(send me to the bubble jungle!)

i'm not sure what this is about, so i don't feel like writing an incredibly long explanation of my opinions.

Tool – Maynard's Dick Lyrics 19 years ago
one of the funniest songs ive ever heard in my life, bar none(assuming there is no cryptic deeper meaning to the whole thing). And didnt Maynard do stand up comedy for a short time?(maybe i'm wrong, but i always thought that's what the beginning of Third Eye was...) If so, its cool that he incorporated some humor into thier music. and i know what you mean libertykillingcons, for me this discussion brought to mind "Cigaro" by System of a Down. haha..."My cock is much bigger than yours!" Both songs kick ass...

I forgot to mention, this version is live (probably a bootleg from some random concert) and played before what sounds like Hypnotize. So it could be somewhat recent.

System of a Down – Goodbye Blue Sky (Pink Floyd cover) Lyrics 19 years ago
Here's another version. I dont know about it's accuracy, as I made these lyrics myself and I, admittedly, suck at captioning songs. And in the beginning whatever Serj says is overpowered by Shavo's bass-playing. But the rest of the song is quite distinct so i'm fairly confident. On a sidenote, this may have been played in London.

ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh

(??), a stained blue house
Washed and closed,
the music of our world,

If we could open our eyes and see what's going on...

(goodbye, blue sky, goodbye, blue sky, goodbye)
The way hypocrites designed this world in the last 300 years, it will end in the next TWENTY IF YOU'RE NOT CAREFUL!

(goodbye, blue sky, goodbye, blue sky, goodbye)
Don't buy into the global estate IN ANY WAY!
The world is SUDDENLY THE ECONOMY OF HELL!

We need a new front of war; one that declares peace on the rest of the world.

Tool – Viginti Tres Lyrics 19 years ago
First off, I'd like to mention that I think it's a strong possibility that 10,000 days is Lateralus pt. 2; there are a lot of similarities. Second, and more importantly, I typed in "viginti tres" on google and got this on some lyrics site:

Una Infinitas
Abominatio Nascitur Autumno
hic est tuum temptamen quod temptat tua potentia
viginti tres gradus ad summam potestatem

translated :
one infinity
the horror begins in autumn
this is your trial, now prove your (power, might, ability; efficacy, potency)
Twenty three steps to total power.

Now, I have sped up, slowed down, reversed, and done everything to the song that i can think of doing, and I still don't get anything close to that. So will somone please tell me if these lyrics are bullshit? or is there something I'm doing wrong?

System of a Down – Fortress Lyrics 19 years ago
Also, i like this version of the lyrics better, because they make a TINY bit more sense.

Tamper, temper, solved it all, he...
to the states,
to the states
It then apears the proclaimation of...
to the states,
to the states

Tamper, temper, solved it all, he...
to the states,
to the states
It then apears the proclaimation of...
to the states,
to the states

The fortress of forever
Been forsaken
Man made promise
Polluted with blue dye
Air, water, design!
Man made promise
Polluted with blue dye

Temper, tamper, we have gained
Outer space, outer space
A hearing of the years, the devistation of
Outer space, outer space

Temper, tamper, we have gained
Outer space, outer space
That's not true! That's not true!
The human race, human race

The fortress of forever
Been forsaken
Man made promise
Polluted with blue dye
Air, water, design!
Man made promise
Polluted with blue dye

Fortress of forever
Been mistaken

Man made promise
Polluting of the skies

Fortress of forever
Been mistaken

Man made promise
Polluting of the skies

The fortress of forever
Been forsaken
Man made promise
Polluted with blue dye
Air, water, design!
Man made promise
Polluted with blue dye

I read once on soadonline.net (which was acknowledged by the official system of a down site before it somehow dissappeared) that the kombucha mushroom has something to do with AIDS. im not sure though, i havent tried to find out if there's a connection. Either way the song still kicks ass. I love it.

System of a Down – Fuck The System Lyrics 20 years ago
Never in my life have i seen a song meaning so well described by 3 words. Its anti-government and anti-conformity. One of my favorites to this day. Also i always thought that the lyrics went like this:

I’m just the meaning of pi!
Just the meaning of pi!
Just the meaning of pi!

I’m just the meaning of pi!
Just the meaning of pi!
Just the meaning of PAIN!

Maybe im wrong. Anyway, FUCK THE SYSTEM!!!

System of a Down – Question! Lyrics 20 years ago
This info might help...I (and many of you should have) noticed that at the end of the second chorus, Serj says something obscure. Last december someone here said it could be "open your eye" but I slowed the song down, and i'm positive that its "I'll be alright..."

System of a Down – Bounce Lyrics 20 years ago
Youre all thinking to deep into the song, its definitely about an orgy. Serj almost always writes lyrics about politics, but Daron and Shavo wrote the lyrics for Bounce, so theres no underlying political theme, it's just there to be funny. So quit trying to apply meanings to it and laugh. Because it's hilarious! Also, those lyrics are slightly wrong.

System of a Down – Attack Lyrics 20 years ago
It's about people speaking out against an opressive government, and rebellion against said government. It's saying that some nation (most likely the US) is sick of taking shit from thier government, and we have to stand and attack as one or else we'll "fall alone." Kind of a "united we stand, divided we fall" type of thing. There are some elements thrown in from the anarchist cookbook, (pesticide) and a description of how the government is making the whole nation look bad, by attacking "all the homes and villages." And also, i think, a stab toward censored journalism (truth{in one version of the lyrics i saw, the word truth had quotation marks} is the only sword bleeding minds) and accusing the US of imperialism for oil (raising your flags along polluted coasts). Good song.

System of a Down – Chop Suey! Lyrics 20 years ago
I heard someone say that the few words in the beginning of the song are "a wrong suicide." I dont know if there is any truth in that, though, because I also heard that it might be, "we're rolling suicide", from a site that is associated with the official site of S.O.A.D. (soadonline.net) As for the rest of the song, I dont really have anything to add. I have been trying to piece togther its meaning for 3 years, and im still clueless. But any new information i get about it will be posted here.
