| Elton John – Pinball Wizard (The Who cover) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
These are the lyrics from the Who version. Elton John's was slightly different: Ever since I was a young boy I've played the silver ball From Soho down to Brighton I must have played them all I ain't seen nothing like him In any amusement hall That deaf, dumb and blind kid Sure plays a mean pinball He stands like a statue Becomes part of the machine Feeling all the bumpers Always playing clean He plays by intuition The digit counters fall That deaf dumb and blind kid Sure plays a mean pinball He's a pinball wizard There has to be a twist A pinball wizard's got such a supple wrist (How do you think he does it?) I don't know (What makes him so good?) Well... He ain't got no distractions Can't hear those buzzers and bells Don't see lights a-flashin' Plays by sense of smell Always has a replay Never tilts at all That deaf dumb and blind kid Sure plays a mean pinball He can't beat me now I've always been the champ I know every trick No freak's gonna beat my hand Even at my usual table He can beat the best His disciples lead him in An' he just does the rest He's got crazy flipper fingers I've never seen him fall That deaf dumb and blind kid Sure plays a mean pinball He's a pinball wizard, There has to be a twist A pinball wizard's got such a supple wrist He's a pinball wizard He scores a trillion more A pinball wizard The world's new pinball lord He's scoring more He's scoring more I thought I was The Bally Table king But I just handed my Pinball crown to him To him To hi-i-i-m |

| Genesis – Driving The Last Spike Lyrics | 18 years ago |

Knowing nothing about the authors intention I envisioned this as a story about people building the railroads in the United States. Much of the description of the dangers involved and the fact that the workers were lied to and treated like insignificant cattle rang true in this context as well. |

| David Gilmour – There's No Way Out of Here Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
This has always been a general statement about life in my mind. You have been placed here for no reason that you can *really* understand and you have no choice but to deal with the shit that is thrown at you. We search all our lives for answers and the irony is that they don't exist to begin with! DOH!! |

| Rush – The Fountain Of Lamneth Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Absolutely right, Aug. The song touches on all the different aspects of life, from the point where we take responsibility for our lives thinking that we will do better than anyone else to the point where we realize that it's not so easy after all to the point where we reach the end only to find that the answer wasn't there after all... it was the journey getting there that our lives consist of. | |
| Monster Magnet – There's No Way Out Of Here Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I think that 'here' refers to life. You can't waste time, you must do as much as you can with it as you can because it "slips through your hands like grans of sand - You watch it go" | |
| The Wallflowers – God Says Nothing Back Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I would guess that the same reference is made to these different ideas that are more man made than real. Maybe they all exist only because man has a need to believe that they do. | |
| Rush – The Camera Eye Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I love this song too. I found it interesting to read some of the reviews concerning Rush's greatest hits compilations on Amazon and it struck me as a bit odd that this one has never been included. | |

Actually it was Eric Clapton who did this originally. The song is sung while he walks down a church-like aisle and is surrounded by women wearing Marilyn Monroe masks, because she is the woman he is referring to as being so powerful. They all behave as though they are attending a mass. Tommy is brought to the church in hopes of finding a cure and he eventually reaches out to a huge statue of M.M. and it comes crashing down. |
