Shouldn't there be a link on the fucking page somewhere to make edits? This is why I hate SongMeanings. You have to search out some form from somewhere and submit revisions like an email. |

"And what we all want and what we all crave,
Is an upbeat song ,
So we can dance the night away."
That is so poignant for some reason, especially when you consider what turmoil the singer may be going through in his/her life. |

This is just utterly brilliant. So very well written, told, played, sung, everything. Mr. White is indeed a lyrical genius and he never ceases to amaze me with his talent. One of the band's finest songs. |

This is not racist at all, and I speak as a Bengali born and brought up in UK. The situation was clearly different in 1987-88 when this was written, and yes in many parts of the UK, I too would've told many people 'back home' to "shelve your Western plans". So shut up to all you people jumping on the 'Morrissey is a racist' bandwagon. He is a lyrical genius and a British legend. |

This is the only song ever made in the history of mankind that genuinely makes me proud to be British. Gets me every time.
Long live the Libertines and may the Good Ship Albion sail on to Arcadia for ever more!!!

I'm pretty sure this is a Babyshambles song, cant seem to find any mention of this being recorded as the Libertines, although it has slightly different lyrics to this one.
Definitely Pete's song, refers to the book by Marquis de Sade which he used to name the band! (obviously) |

This song is so powerful and moving it almost makes me cry and I dont even know why, it's not even that sad. The "I always hear them.." part, just too good, gets me every time.
Thank you. Just thank you. |

| The Strokes – On The Other Side Lyrics

God that makes your eyes bleed man!! Why do that? it must take ages to write too..
ANYway, I'm pretty sure this is about Julian's drinking habit. He didnt really like all the hype and media attention he got in the first place. and then there was the stress and pressure from his record label to make a really good second album in a very short amount of time, which took it out of him. And then he ended up getting a lot of flak from the critics and some 'fans' (on the streets and on TV) which he apparently took to heart. He didnt really have very good relations with the media and certain magazines (I hate them all). During this time he drank a lot (I'll drink some more)and developed drinking habit. I think this fits with most of the song: "nobody's waiting for me on the other side" - no one can save him if he carries on like this.
What I dont get though is when he starts talking to someone "I remember when you came.." and then, "I know you're waiting for me, on the other side". Who is this? Juliet maybe? |

Eelsrule, your comments are SUCH crap - 'this song sounds as if they wrote it and played it on the way to the bathroom.. played guitar while taking a shit'? WTF are you on about?? These lyrics are genius; the themes and connotations it conjures up are so intelligent. Reminds me of a dystopian future (akin to 1984 or Brave New World), which happens to sound eerily similar to the present.. The guitar riffs are just sheer brilliance. This songs is prob one of the best theyve done as a whole, and thats no overstatement.
The title is def referring to eyes, and not linking to the last line. even that sends a shiver down my spine. It really is an awesome feat of song-writing imagination, not usually associated with the strokes.
PS: I also thought there was something wrong with the song (haha!). Another thing, that does sound like 'vaporizing' but if so, how would you you explain the cut in the middle? |

..and youre meant to be 'thestrokesluver'? If its a waste to you, you dont deserve this album let alone that moniker. As other people have rightly said, its them experimenting a bit; minimalist music (beautifully done might i add), using an instrument which is not very common, simple melody yet intricately woven and although one can read what they want from the lyrics, there is obviously an intended irony there. Adding to another comment, all their new songs dont have to sound like is this it/someday/reptilia, why are some people expecting this?? Is it such a crime to have ONE song slightly different from the rest of the album? (imho, i find it a good song to wind down/relax to.. hope that doesnt sound too corny..) |

Yeah, its a well known phrase, but Pete says the opposite. It could be about Carl, but the line 'dont look back into the motherfucking sun' might be referring to The Sun tabloid which printed a lot of negative stuff about him, hence 'your words they really kill me'.
Also, saw them just now and they fucking rocked!! Pete, you're a legend! |

Agree with heather. I just saw them two days ago and they fucking rocked. Theyre so damn good its not even funny. This song is just amazing, the guitars, the lyrics, the video, them, everything!! To the guy who said he's not the greatest singer, I think his voice, that NY drawl fits this type of music so much better. Its more laconic and laidback to the point of nonchalance which adds to their charm and coolness. I just love it!! |

PS andy is a friend of brandon's from high school, and no, he is def not gay but believe what you want. |

Yeah that weird percussion starts to 'grate' after a while, I wish it was slightly quieter. But it grows on you nevertheless, that whole jealousy thing really shows fallen angel nailed it.

Dont think they have a new drummer, but yeah it is slightly bad cos its a live version (there's two and one of them's much better). It's still as good as anyof their other songs. Lets hope they record it for their new album. To ppl who want to listen to it, try limewire. |

I love all these demos!! It makes a change from listening to hot fuss for the millionth time (although i aint saying i'm tired of it or anything..). I've been obsessed with getting all of them and none have really disappointed.
Agree with Xtinab, most of them have a different sound too but they're still amazing. I sometimes think they should have recorded some of these. Oh well, here's to the new album, I heard its out in april, thats so far away!! |

| The Killers – Mr. Brightside Lyrics
|
Binaural's right, it doesnt have to be all true. It def sounds like him imagining it all, ie he's suspicious and sees all this in his head. Like he sees all the cab, smoke, bed stuff after falling asleep, then he opens his eyes (wakes up). He's suspicious but he never acts on it or confronts her, but instead keeps it inside of him, so all that imagining and torturing is the price he pays. But he tries to look on the brightside maybe?? I dunno, I'm guessing that's where the name fits in. I also think the kiss is the girl and the other guy and not him. What I'm not sure of is if the suspicions are just based on the kiss, which could be friendly and innocent, or if there's more to it...
Anyway, I've heard this song so many times its not even funny but I still think it's amazing. Apparently this was the first song they ever wrote/sung, and it happens to be pure genius. Imagine being able to do that!! Man I just love all their songs to death. |

| Muse – Ruled by Secrecy Lyrics

|
It's based on a book called Rule By Secrecy by Jim Marrs. I know cos you can see Matt reading it in the making-of documentary on the Absolution DVD. The book is about the people and organisations that secretly rule our lives, hence the name. Matt's really into all that conspiracy stuff, like about the Origin of Symmetry, which is actually a theory about the universe. Don't believe in all that myself but amazing song (and genius band) all the same. |

| The Killers – Replaceable Lyrics
|
Yeah, its DEF brandon/killers. It just sounds a bit different cos its a demo and so not produced as well as the songs & b-sides from hot fuss, just like the other demos (oh yeah by the way, waiting for love etc.) Also, it was probably recorded before hot fuss so their voices/sound might've changed, deliberately or otherwise.
About the song, I agree with loveisblind, its unusually easy to decipher unlike many of their other songs which are open to various interpretations. One thing though; is the line 'its great to hear you're doing fine' said with a hint of sarcasm?
Agree with ricardo too, the vocals, lyrics, music, everything about this song is brilliant, and its so emotionally sung. 'Replaceable' is such an apt word in these situations. I was gonna say its one of their best but seeing as I'd say that about 20 of their songs, let's just say the Killers are one talented, amazing band. God I love them. |

patobrien, you contradict yourself; you say this song is ridiculous, then say it is such a shame he deteriorated in the NEXT few years, ie he was good to begin with (with which I'm sure we can all agree with). So which is it? And you do it again too; 'waste of a talent' means he has/had talent to begin with. Also, are you saying marshall mathers lp is going downhill?? And just for the record, this song is a genius piece of rap ie lyrics merged with beats.. If you don't agree, you obviously dont know rap |
