Sticks and Stones Lyrics

Now here's a tale
Tale I will tell
Blood lust after no sweet love
And a many, many things I do so well
Oh you know that's the end
That's the end so far away down

They said that I was as good as dead
And there was hope, but not for us together
My friend, my only friend

Oh well you know that that's the end
And that's the end so far away down

Skip... fame on the run
Don't look back into the motherfucking sun, no
Oh well you know that that's the end
And that's the end so far away down

Sticks and stones
May break my bones
Oh but your words
They really kill me

Sticks and stones
May break my bones
Sticks and stones may break my bones
Oh but your words they really kill me

And there you know that's the end
But there can never be and end

Shakespeare had written on his gravestone: Sticks and stones may break my bones, But words can never hurt me.

Yeah, its a well known phrase, but Pete says the opposite. It could be about Carl, but the line 'dont look back into the motherfucking sun' might be referring to The Sun tabloid which printed a lot of negative stuff about him, hence 'your words they really kill me'.

Also, saw them just now and they fucking rocked!! Pete, you're a legend!

@ citizenerased19

I think Pete is referring to the libertines song "Dont look back into the sun".

Hahahaha, the fuck? In reference to citizenerased19, I would have thought the reference to DLBITS were obvious. The Sun tabloid indeed.

I quite like Citizenerased's theory. Songs are about finding your own meaning, and if he thinks that about the lyric, he's entitled to.

I love pete. ...he says a lot of random things at the end of this song...and i think he starts saying numbers that could mean something...1 2 4 2 25...I was seventeen....Im damned damned damned damned... something

it's both the song don't look back into the sun and the tabloids.. seeing as dont look back into the sun is about the tabloid the sun, who pete now also jokingly claimed made the first step in getting pete and carl back together.

Amazing song... I think the reference to the "Motherfucking sun", according to the meaning of the song, is a clear reference against the tabloid.

This is just another two fingers upat the press the line 'i will be here at the end' is saying to the tabloids that he is more than a junkie waster n theyve got him all wrong. when he says about the said i was as good as dead he means they thought he was washed up n talentless, looking into the sun is like into fame it will blind you. this is my opinion im probaly really wrong but i think pete wants people like journalist who dont understand what him to stop commenting on his life and stop amblulance chasing
