John Mayer – Say Lyrics 17 years ago
This song is speaking to me so much right now. I have strong feelings for a girl I've recently become good friends with, but I'm struggling with saying anything, because I'm afraid of ruining our friendship.

Anyway, this song is making me feel like I owe it to myself to say something to her and let her know.

...and I may just do that. Beautiful song from a fantastic singer/songwriter and wholly underrated guitarist.

who is the female voice through the chorus? i remember reading an article where Tom said he was shocked by Jim's falsetto somewhere on this record but if that truly is him by himself... well... he's got WAYYYY better range than he lets on.

that is definitely on the high register in that chorus. thoughts?

Jimmy Eat World – Here It Goes Lyrics 18 years ago
small correction:
"Laugh, but you can't ignore"
And apologies to crimsondawn but it is most definitely "Robots might say your name, they only light the stage"

It's like the main character is a kid who's always been looked down upon for being different. Then one day, he has an epiphany. He owns up to his flaws alone in his room and to the fact that life can't be perfect. He attends his first dance and he's the first one to take the stage. He doesn't do it for attention, and he just begins to move oblivous to what people may think of him or his dance moves. It's like that moment Dane Cook said guys will never do... "I just wanna dance!" He wants to dance and he'll let the "cool kids" fight over the accolades all he wants is to express himself the only way he knows how... by rocking the shit out of that dance floor.

That's how I feel anyway. Amazing song. And such a welcome departure from the JEW norm. It makes me want to throw concern and caution to the wind and move. Great album as well.

Jimmy Eat World – Always Be Lyrics 18 years ago
Small correction and explanation on the chorus:

I'm alone in this
I'm a "as-I've-always-been"
Right behind what's happening
She's a "lost-in-this"
She's a light
She'll always be a little far for me to reach

"As-I've-Always-Been" and "Lost-in-This" in the way you could refer to someone as a "has-been" or "never-was". I think anyway... I didn't write it. Just my lil lyrical interpretation. Hope this helps.

Jimmy Eat World – Dizzy Lyrics 18 years ago
No offense to other posters and ellie117, but I think you guys are trying to post lyrics for the demo version. The album version goes a little something like this:

"You close your eyes and kiss your hand, then you blow it
But it isn't meant for me, and I noticed
If the choice was ours alone, then why'd we both choose letting go?
Does it end like this?

Time never had a chance to heal your heart
Just a number always counting down to a new start
If you always knew the truth then the world will spin around you
Are you dizzy yet?

Respectfully so in honesty I'm calling out
Do you hear the conversation we talk about?
I'll back away to the safety of a quiet house
If there's half a chance in this moment
When your eyes meet mine, we show it off

All talk and not a lot to think, we're living dreams
And shame never crept close to our naked feet
If there's something left to lose
Then don't let me wear out my shoes
That I still walk in

I tried, but it rang and rang, I called all night
On a payphone, remember those from another life?
If everything I meant to you
You can't lick and seal then fold in two
Then I've been so blind

Respectfully, so in honesty I'm asking now
Do you hear the conversation we talk about?
I'll back the way to the safety of a quiet house
If there's half a chance in this moment
When your eyes meet mine, we show it off

Aw, aw take it all back, take your first, your last, your only
Aw, aw take it all back, take it all back, everything you showed me
Aw, aw this must be how it feels
And the feeling goes on...

I told you as I haven't, I never felt this way
You said I have the shot that stops my clock
Baby it's okay
You said you never have regrets
Jesus, is there someone yet who got that wish?
Did you get yours, babe?

Respectfully, so in honesty I'm asking now
Do you hear the conversation we talk about?
I'll back away to the safety of a quiet house
If there's half a chance in this moment
When your eyes meet mine, we show it off."

Nothing too major... The original version posted above is very close and I would've just posted the corrections, but there were lots of little things, needing changed. Especially in the bridge. Hope this helps.

Jimmy Eat World – Big Casino Lyrics 18 years ago
*small correction* "I was someone you'd have liken" should be "I was someone you'd have LIKED". Great job on the lyrics.

I'd heard the chorus for awhile as a ringtone, but hearing the whole song... damn. It gave me chills, especially the second verse:
"And I'll tell you something else
That you ain't dying enough to know" AND the bridge "I have one last wish /And it's from my heart". His voice sounds to amazing on that section. My favorite band has still got it. Can't wait to hear a studio version of Chase This Light.

But does anyone know what the song means? It sounds like a older/wiser Jimmy Eat World talking to some of the up and coming bands. Talking about casinos, lotteries, primes, young saviors. Catchy song though...

it breaks my heart that this track didn't make the final cut (along with "Tunnel") on the full album... probably afraid of the fall out from the "hardcore" fans doing songs with "ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba"'s and an acoustic song with a full string section behind it a la "On My Own". Regardless, this song is perfect. Beautiful all throughout...

and a small correction to CHADAMISTHESHIT's post: I think but I'm not 100% sure it's "In all this I'm one...to never follow". But like I said... without the lyrics, it's anyone's ball game. Perfect song.

The Used – Hospital Lyrics 18 years ago
I'm suprised at all The Used fans commenting on this song and not knowing that this song is straight up written about a recurring dream Bert has where he dies on the way to the hospital. Check almost any interview with Bert about this album, you'll find it there.

Here is MY interpretation of the song: There is one Bert singing to another version of Bert in the back of an ambulance. One is dying and the other is not. Dying Bert knows he's going to die soon and before he does he wants to get some things off his chest, but the other side of him doesn't want him to. His other side, decides that the lies have worked so far, and thus don't need to be known.

But the Dying Bert persists saying:

"before i cross my heart and hope to die at all... (i'll) take off my mask and leave the lies to the liars."

the Lying Bert tells him that it could be a rash decision...

"Will you look them in the face? Could you look me in the face? Three cheers you fooled them all.Come on now, Hip Hip Hooray."

Basically the Lying Bert is telling him, it's done and it'd be pointless to change it, but Dying Bert decides that before he finds his final resting place, he wants his conscience cleared... hence the final chorus.

Wow. See that guys? A whole "Lies For The Liars" song meaning and it has NOTHING TO DO WITH MCR or GERARD. Christ... Haven't any of you heard the rumors that the "feud" isn't a feud at all?

Here's what MIGHT have really happened: Gerard got clean. Bert didn't. They don't hang. Press sees this. Press looks at their old clippings and see Gerard and Bert kissing outside Times Square and spin some asanine story of betrayal and backstabbing. The Used get tired of fielding questions about the sudden fame and success of MCR and start avoiding the issue which makes it look worse than it is. MCR still talk about The Used and it's all positive and for the most part vice versa. And for you diehards, look no further than the DVD portion of Berth which was released a couple of months ago. A circa 2005-era Gerard Way is talking about The Used being a real band... genuine and not fake at all. I know it's old footage, but would you show a clip of your newly-anointed mortal enemy calling you "a good guy"? Fucking think for yourselves, man.

That's all I ask...

side note: This song at one point was called "Cross My Heart And Hope To Die"... don't you think if it was directed at Mr Way, it would've been called "Cross YOUR Heart"? Just saying...

Taking Back Sunday – Error Operator (Louder Now version) Lyrics 19 years ago
I'll give this song meaning a shot, but be gentle...

Okay, from my point of view this song is about him ending a relationship and realizing later on that he made a mistake. I don't know if you've ever made a rash decision and slept that night and had a dream that made you realize that you fucked up.

Let's say he wakes up and he's panicking and at war with himself saying: "there's been an accident" and the other half is trying to calm him down ("breathe in and out"). Then his other half is looking for a validation ("would you do it again") while he's saying "I don't make those mistakes anymore". To rationalize his decision he says he "swears I could see right through you" (doesn't mean he was right in his reasoning.)

Later on, the other part of him begins to mock him ("murderer, murderer, where have you been?") and of course him claiming "we can't go back" which alludes to him making a mistake and there's nothing he can change about his decision to leave the girl he now misses.

Also the title (for me anyway) helps give it away. "Error: Operator" is the message oft received on a computer when you've caused a program to crash and so on and so forth. The fault is his and if he could go back and change his decision/actions, he would.

That's what I get from the song anyway.

Taking Back Sunday – Miami Lyrics 19 years ago
A lot of good interpretations of this song posted above. Mine differs slightly...

To me this song is almost like the singer caught in a love triangle. Kinda sounds like he has finally met a girl he can picture himself being with forever and the feeling is mutual but deep down he's still wrapped up in the "love" he had before or elsewhere (Miami, perhaps). Say the first girl dumped him and he was head over heels in love with her and he's trying to get over her, and he's met the new girl, but he's still in love with his ex. And no matter what he does he can't escape the memories of his old flame ("every hour on the hour" and "unhand me, god damn me, Miami").

But I also think it could be him breaking up with the love of his life because she cheated on him, and she feels sorry and wants forgiveness telling him "there's no one else" and he is struggling with how to deal that. ("The terror held in wedding bells/The comfort in there's no one else/The truth be told I'm never gonna know.")

"The terror held in wedding bells"--- I think that's him feeling scared of the fact that if they stayed together, there's a chance she could do it again.

"The comfort in 'there's no one else'"--- The comfort he speaks of sounds very sarcastic (at least to me). Very much like he doesn't believe her hence the:
"The truth be told I'm never going to know".

Although the line ("So long as you don't torture me with my past") sounds like it could be disproving said theory, I think it could be him rationalizing that he won't bring the trangsression up to her, unless she starts in on him first (because after all "a secret silenced is a secret safe".)

Just my take it on it though. No matter how you slice it, I honestly think it's a song about TRUST more than it is about RELIGION, but I didn't write the tune so... who knows??? It could be a continuation of Will Smith's smash hit for all we know. (That is said with tongue planted firmly in cheek.)

Great song from a great band. I loved their "style" from their first two albums, but I can't believe they had the courage it takes to almost totally abandon that and embark in a different direction altogether, (a la Blink182 at the end of their run) AND be a better band for it. And that solo although very short... is also very sweet!!!

TREXOR: you really ought to calm the fuck down buddy. There IS a fake Tool album and 10,000 Days is NOT IT!!! What proof do you need, man? Like it or not, the fucking artwork you despise is plastered all over Wal-Mart (May 2nd: the banner reads) and while I could see Maynard & Co. fucking with that "establishment"... they respect their fans enough to NOT string them on some crazy-assed fucked-up conspiracy theory like you're throwing out here on your posts.

After May 2nd, 2006 you're gonna be changing your name to avoid the entire Tool fan-base laughing your ass out the cyber-door. IT IS TOOL and THOSE ARE THE TRACKS that will be on the ALBUM: "10000 DAYS." Just let it fucking go, man. Save what dignity you have left and just LET IT GO. For your sake... you look like (and will be proven) a goddamn fool!!!

Fucking righteous song by the way. Maynard has the best voice in music today and it doesn't matter who's backing him: Tool, APC, Deftones, RATM or even a Kanye West beat... he's gonna sound amazing.

Angels and Airwaves – The Adventure Lyrics 19 years ago
I'm tired of everyone saying "so and so sounds like U2" just because they use delay pedals... The Edge doesn't have a patent on it you know... It adds a certain atmosphere to the song that blink may not have been able to pull off. Just imagine them playing this song live... I will move heaven and earth just for the chance to be in the audience somewhere singing along to this beautiful, hope-filled song.

As far as why Tom isn't playing guitar in the video, I would assume it's the band (or Tom's) way of showing that Tom is finally becoming the frontman he was destined to be, with or without the guitar. Blink was great, Boxcar Racer was even better (even if only for the maturity) and I hope Angels and Airwaves are around for a very, VERY long time.

Oh... and by the way his voice is just phenomenal. His confidence in his singing ability just gets stronger with every outing.

And for those looking to categorize A&A, I would have to say Rock... You could use "emo" but what does it really mean? This song definitely makes you feel something, and if that's the definition of emo then I would have to say, feel free to use it, but in my opinion it's just a label record companies put on bands to sell more records. Music has always been about true feeling (the good music anyway) and to lump A&A in with the likes of Hawthorne Heights and Fall Out Boy would be a travesty and a crime against rock and roll. If 30 Seconds to Mars is "future rock", then I'm certain these guys would fall under that category. I know that Tom is a huge fan of Jimmy Eat World and I bet he's stoked to be doing songs that have more meaning than the typical "beer & blowjobs" blink-182 was known for during the most part of their lifespan. blink showed great maturity and promise on their last album and Travis' amazing beats will surely be missed, but everyone should just put blink to bed for the moment, as the future CLEARLY belongs to the ANGELS and the AIRWAVES.

This song for some reason make me truly happy to be alive, and methinks that's really what it's all about. I've been wrong before though. Who cares what it's really about... I love it.

A beautiful track... very lullaby-like with Claudio using his "baby" voice and the chorus "Please God right now" just amazing. I also love at the end when he comes in with his normal voice... such a nice contrast. I think the song is rather straightforward on meaning... It's Sir Arthur McCloud mourning the supposed "death" of his boys and wanting revenge on those responsible. AMAZING! Can;t wait for "My Brother's Blood Machine" to be released, which will be sometime in 2006.

Definitely I longing in Thom's voice. Why haven't more people heard this song or posted on it. Go to the 'Paranoid Android' page and there's over 80 posts belonging to fucking Creed. It's a travesty.

Anyway on to the song.

Like I said there is most definitely a longing sumbersed throughout the track. Like after any relationship ends, you're at war with yourself. You feel like absolute shit and your brain trys to tell you that that you're better now, if not stronger than before... But listen to the last line in the song: "I got something/I got something I don't know". He's confused. Is the breakup for the best or is he lying to himself to make up for the pain he now feels.

I don't know. That's just my take. ADD SOME POSTS TO A BEAUTIFUL SONG PEOPLE!!!

Death Cab for Cutie – What Sarah Said Lyrics 20 years ago
My best friend/roommate's father recently passed away 24 hours after being told he had only one year left to live. Talk about plans... Can you imagine the plans you'd be making for that year only for them to become obsolete less than a day later? I think that's what this song is talking about.

Now, my friend's dad passed too suddenly for a dreaded trip to the ICU, which is where this song takes place, but he had been there before waiting for him plenty of times and I'm quite certain he had thoughts very similar to the ones depicted here. Ben Gibbard does such a brilliant job taking us into the room with him ("as i stared at my shoes in the ICU that reeked of piss and 409") as well as into his mind.

Now I never thought I'd be moved more emotionally then I had been by the following songs: Jimmy Eat World's "Hear You Me", Something Corporate's "Konstantine" and even the once-hidden track turned hit single "Sarabeth" by Rascal Flatts (I half-joked to my girlfriend that "What Sarah Said" is "Sarabeth part II" told from the perspective of her newly-bald knight in shining armor going through the pain of watching her slowly fade away... If you haven't heard that song I urge you to... It's also very beautiful and sad but in a positive way... If you listen to them back to back it makes for a heart-breaking, emotional experience but... that's just coming from a music fan with too much time on his hands.) Anyway, this song makes those others pale considerably at least in terms of emotional impact. It's like after hearing this, I won't be moved by those songs the same way again. This song is just so powerful. And it's not just in the words sang or the music played. It's in the thoughts you have five minutes after the song has finished playing. An emotional experience I never had since listening to the one-two punch from Jimmy Eat World's masterpiece (and my favorite album of all-time) 'Clarity': the songs "For Me This is Heaven" & "Just Watch the Fireworks" for reasons that shall remain my own.

I just watched Elizabethtown and in the film Orlando Bloom's character talks about how he and his father were supposed to take a road trip back to his dad's hometown "next year" and how that year become "next year and the year after that". We assume a plan is a plan and that it will always be there, when in reality, it's not (hence the line: "And it came to me then that every plan is a tiny prayer to Father Time"). On a sidenote: this album is spectacular but the only flaw is that it peaks on this song making the final two tracks obsolete (just an opinion, but do you really think it's entitled 'Plans' by coincedence?)

As I (and countless others) have mentioned it's a song about the pain of waiting for someone who probably won't make it back alive. But this song means much MUCH more than that. I think ultimately this song is about the plans we make, how we take for granted that they will come to fruition, and finally... about love. Not just love. Unconditional love. The love that would keep someone waiting hours upon hours if it meant they might get a chance to tell you one more time how they felt about you. More often then not, we won't receive that other chance.

So when I hear this song I hear a prayer for all of us to live, to laugh, to be in the moment (the line about the "faulty camera in our minds": we take for granted the good times spent with someone so we're not as tuned in as we would be if we were on that person's death bed therefore our memories of that person and the times shared will begin to fade or become less clear) and finally to love (as heard in the line "Love is watching someone die" and is repeated at the end: "so who's going to watch you die?") and to love unconditionally because you never know who (if anyone) will be in the waiting room watching you. Just my thoughts...

Simply put: a beautiful song.

Coheed and Cambria – The Camper Velourium I: Faint of Hearts Lyrics 20 years ago
Claudio doesn't hand over Newo. They as a group hire Al to take them to the Favor House Atlantic. All they know about him is that he is a pilot. What they don't know is that he's a racial-rapist/serial killer. Faint of Hearts is an introduction to "AL THE KILLER." He IS in fact talking to his gun the entire song. The gun is his catalyst (much as Ten Speed is to The Writer in Good Apollo). It talks to him and tells him what to do. But he's conflicted. It tells him to take Newo but as mentioned above he begins to fall for her. So he backs off. The song 'AL THE KILLER' sounds like the gun talking to him in a dream, reminding him of all the bad things he's done and why he can't redeem himself. But Al won't go down like that. That's why in 'A FAVOR HOUSE ATLANTIC' when the shit hits the fan and they're making their escape AL has his chance to kill Claudio and take Newo for himself, but instead he covers him so he can escape (like Darth Vader at the end of JEDI...). In doing so he redeems himself. As to whether or not he survives is unclear, but I CAN say that I don't think he's in Good Apollo anywhere, but the graphic novel is on its way here, so if I'm wrong I'll let everyone here know.

Jimmy Eat World is INCAPABLE of writing a "bad song". While this song is sub-par for the album FUTURES it would be right at home on BLEED AMERICAN. Anyone who disagrees should have their hearing checked because this is simply a good pop song. Plus it's awesome to hear JEW bust out a guitar solo like that. CLARITY is still the best album of all-time... Long live the butterflies!!!

I agree with brenlo... Anyway, a great song to drive around blasting. Seriously. I'm in love with this track.

Coheed and Cambria – Kinderwhore Lyrics 20 years ago
Do the Shabutie songs fit into the CoCa storyline? I know everyone says that Shabutie & Coheed are not the same, but I read that they are one and the same, and that the reason they're not still using that name is because Equal Vision forced them to change it. This song definitely feels like it could be attached to The Camper Velorium segment. Help!!!
