| The Decemberists – Los Angeles, I'm Yours Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
How I abhor this place Its sweet and bitter taste Has left me wretched, retching on all fours Los Angeles, I’m yours I definatley agree that this song is about the love/hate relationship that the narrator has with LA, and that I think that many, MANY, people, myself included, share. The above lines remind me of how at least I feel about the city, its very bittersweet, like none other place on earth. But then, the title line shows that he has succumed to what he's so unsure if he loves or hates. "Has left me wretched, retching on all fours" That's absolutley, rip-your-heart-out, love to me. The kind that hurts your soul, and leaves you on your knees. |

| The Decemberists – Red Right Ankle Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
Unlike many, this is not the first decemberists song i'd ever heard, but its one of my favorites (i think i say that about every song), nonetheless. I see it as passionate love song, pretty much an extended metaphor to love. I love the recurring themes in each of thier songs, and ankles are definately one of them. I love ansel19's comment about how the right side is controlled by the left side of the brain. To add on, I've heard many times that people throughout history have considered the ankle the sexiest part of a woman's body. Some argue that the wrist is, but in regards to how often it is mentioned in their songs, i consider it a relativley valid arguement. I find it very decemberists-eque to bring up dark family secrets, or the gypsy uncle in what is precieved as a song about deep love. I'm working on justifying it--because after all, aside from the amazing music, 1/2 of it is always about making the connections, and finding meaning. |

| M. Ward – Undertaker Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Agreed, someone that obsessive would be bad, but I dont see this song that way. I see it more as a romeo/juliet situation, (not comparing the two because thier not related) but only in the sense that if she should die, he minus well too because he'd rather be with her than not, and the character has nothing left to live for without her; hense "take me home". | |
| M. Ward – Vincent O'Brien Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Yeah, the irony in this song kicks me everytime, not becuase its ironic, but because its so, slap-in-the-face true. Any other artist couldnt make you see this with only his voice. | |
| M. Ward – Sad, Sad Song Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I think that this song is about a guy who's heart has been broken, and he tries to find a "cure" for it, (knowing all along that there isnt one) but seeks out even a doctor, when he finds the real answer with his own mom. "mom knows best" eh? | |
| Phish – Tela Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| phish is phenomenal...i named my dog tela, and the next one's going to be wilson..the politics behind gamehenge never cease to facinate me that it can be portrayed so beautifully through music. | |
| Cat Stevens – Peace Train Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| To me, this song is one of hope, and although Cat isn't in my generation, he remains one of the best artists of all time. I think that the war inspired this song, but it applies to life outside of war. It's my "theme song" if you will, reminding me that it could always be worse, and to always try and see the light in the tunnel; that at the edge of darkness, there rides a peace train. | |
