| A Silent Film – Rustle of the Stars Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| I think it's about wanting to just get over someone, but not really. It's about not wanting to feel the pain - that it's all "settled" soon - but not wanting to let go of the person or the love (not being able to do so) | |

"Won't, won't you read my mind? Don't you make me mad at you And I hear.." should be... "Won't, Won't you ready my mind? Don't you make me lie here And die here" |

To me this song is about a toxic relationship. The couple involved know that it isn't healthy, but are still drawn to each other. They know it won't work out, that it isn't really love, but they keep going back to each other, almost like an addiction. Consider the first verse: They keep secrets from each other, but they also know what each other is up to. They know what they don't want the other to know. They feel the best when they're together, but they also feel immense pain and hurt by the other. They think that they other aligns with them (in dreams, values, etc.), but know that really they don't align. Consider the second verse: They don't pick up on each other ques. They want to believe that they can read the other, but they always feel that missing something, the "I wish you'd..." They make each other feel good, even better, but they also hurt each other ("You're hands can heal...bruise"). They're together but very separate. The trouble is in figuring out how to handle it (stay in this mess or leave). Either way, it hurts. They know they ought to leave, but still go back to each other ("I still choose you"). Finally, consider the chorus: "I don't love you, but I always will" What's going on isn't actual love (they appear to see that). IT isn't healthy, satisfying, or uplifting. But they feel love towards each other ("always will"). They keep going back to each other, despite the pain, hurt, deception, etc. And when they can/do finally stop doing that and move on, there will always be that affection, that sort of love. The heart always will. |

| This song seems to be completely about an abusive relationship, particularly an emotionally abusive relationship. The whole circular motion of the song, ripping the heart out, putting it back, loving even though it isn't fair to the one loving, playing the game, doing it a million times. This song seems to capture exactly the abusive relationship I went through. I kept letting the abuser back into my life. We went in absolute circles. Things would "end" and he'd claim to never want to see or talk to me again, then 2 hours later he would need me more than ever. We went through this over and over again. My heart would be ripped out then given back to me constantly. It wasn't fair, but I loved him. I was stuck in the circles. This song captures the abuse perfectly. | |
| Dredg – I Don't Know Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| This song actually follows philosophical skepticism more than anything religious. The mention of God isn't so mucha questioning of faith, but of epistemology. He's questioning what he knows, of what he can be certain. The title and most repeated line of the song is "I don't know." What can we really know? The first verse is, in essence, the gist of Descartes' Meditations, particularly the first Meditation. The mention of duality (dualism) follows along with this. I feel this is reflection of philosophical inquiry and uncertainty rather than faith-based or religious. | |

i think its more than unrequited love. it's a former love w/ whom he's stayed friends, but still wants. there's an awkwardness hinted at that really seems to exist only between former lovers: "some things she left behind" "it's better left unsaid" "i wish that i could hold" "i've said more than i should" and that he caters to her, brings her things, etc. |

i agree that i think this is about a relationship, but not necessarily gone bad. No doubt, there are problems, but b/c of outside forces. I do think that this is about high school or college - wanting to get out - and maturing. And i think its more a response to the significant other reaking down over it. You cannot ignore however, the cruelty the writer sings of: they've definitely become more bitter, hard and cold bc of the relationship. The relationship's taken its toll on him. I've gone through the same thing w/ a guy... it was painful to say the least and it def took its toll on me - turned me cold and bitter to anything having to do with love |

without a doubt this song is about the speaker's gripe with faith/religion. he's tormented: he beleives one thing, lives for "you," i.e. God; yet at the same time hes betraying his faith w/ his actions |

this is such a beautiful song, so taouching, warming, but sad.... love it's about losing an important person in life, aperson who showed that he (you) the way to who you are... influenced his person what i love best tho about this is how he's coming to terms with the death, or absence, of the special person but that he also sees how he must continue to live (go on) and do it well to hopefully see him/her once again |

i think this song is symbolic/metaphorics of few things 1) it's about abandonning a religion, one the writer's been "devoted" to for some time, and he finally sees there's more out there, better for him 2) about betraying religion - its values, morals, doctrine, etc - through sex "Is it coming over you?... we should come together... my inhibitions soon dissipating... this release inside of me... i'm peaking quicker" this tho, is most definitely about abandonding religion(see last stanza of song), veiled thourgh sexual connotation |
