As an opening track, I thought it was somewhat obvious as being a sort of apology/confusion: How come I end up where I started? How come I end up where I went wrong? How come I end up where I went wrong? - They're back to their less experimental and earlier stage - the stage before they took a wrong turn of direction in music. I won't take my eyes off the ball again - He won't make another mistake this time. First you reel me out and then you cut the string - The fans become attached and then suddenly leave them hanging after their previous albums. "You used to be all right What happened? Did the cat get your tongue? Did your string come undone?" - He seems to be quoting the fan's reactions to his latest work. You used to be all right What happened? Et cetera, et cetera - Emphasizing the endless rants of the people towards his music. Fads for whatever - The fads in music. Fifteen steps Then a sheer drop - Perhaps the 15 steps are the recording process? The sheer drop may refer to their popularity after the last two records. |
