Wow! There have been alot of odd posts that people have submited. Here is what the song means to me: The song is about Babylon the Great. It was a powerful city in Biblical times and was considered as one of the worlds greatest world powers back then. Along with places like Rome and Greece. This song is in comparison to then and now. Places like Vegas and New York are todays examples of aincient Babylon. There is a great number of crime, widespread corruption, the worship of pegan gods (no offense to those who might practice any form of pegan worship) and a lack of order. It was a place fit for the Devil. The "Beast" (Thats 666 folks) is reffering to Satan the Devil and a Harlot is a whore. They make mention of this because in those times, and now there is alot of prostitution, disorder and so on. Babylon is also symbolicly represented as a woman. Shadows could be considering the city the whore itself. She draws others in and they commit sin. I think that in a way Shadows is asking if the end is truly going to come today because the end seems far from real. The line "I don't believe in fairytales" makes me think that. Or he could just be stating that and mocking no one at all. I see that there is a lot of talk about A7X selling out. In my opinion all three of their albums: Sounding the Seventh Trumpet, Waking the Fallen, and City of Evil are different, but I don't think that they are "selling out". Just because there is less screaming in their City of Evil album doesn't mean that they lost their integrity and makes them less "hardcore". For those of you who did not know, Shadows had to get sugery done on his throat. Therefore he lost the ability to do constant screaming and I guess now is focused more on the melodic tune. And just because they have become more well known doesnt mean that they are "selling out". You become well known because of talent. Which is something A7X has. For those who dissagree thats cool, we all have our own reasons and tastes. In my opinion I don't think that A7X has compromised their talent. I know they have a new sound, to me its just in the vocals, but everything is still solid. bass, drums and lets not forget the 2 amazing guitars. Love this song... |

I'm not sure what teh song means because I'm getting alot of mixed messages. She talks about how society is so fucked up and sinners. I always understood this song as being autobiographical... I think that this song is the greatest. Its no secret that Otep has experienced sexual abuse before and by making this song she is tring to make others aware of it. That this is a major problem and the people who do sexually abuse children should pay. In fact not only children, but all victems. This song I can relate to alot. Not from my own personla experiences but from a dear, close friend of mines. They have gone through this as a child and they juat recently went through it again. I love this song! This song is one of my favorites! Well to get to the point, the song is a love song but it goes deeper then just that. People get hurt from others in this "game" called Love because people hurt and mislead others. This is a beautiful song. Alot of mixed messages. I think it means that there is a person who loves another deeply, but they feel undiserving of that persons love. "But I know where I belong Away from your gods That heal all wounds and light this endless dark" This person perfers that they stay in this endless dark and I do not know why because this person who wants to be with someone who is perfet and pure, feels they do not diserve this good thing. It might also mean something about hurtfull love. I know its stupid to say because we all get hurt when we are in love, but the word "forlorn" means: appearing sad or lonely because of being deserted or abandoned. Mabe this person wants to make up for some things that went wrong in a past relationship, but they cant bring themselves to make up/ fix what went wrong because they might have hurt that person they love so badly that they feel undiserving of a second chance.
