The Antlers – I Don't Want Love Lyrics | 12 years ago |
You want to climb up the stairs I want to push you back down But I let you inside So you can push me around - The relationship is alreayd crumbling, the protagonist of the song feeling estranged. The other half wants to come with them and carry on whilst the protagonist is fed up, has had enough and wants to call it a day ("push you back down"). They carry on though and 'let them inside' and then all that occurs is destruction, which lyrically could be manipulation, cruelty or even potentially verbal or physical abuse. The point is, it's quite literal abuse of some sort and letting them 'inside' was a mistake. If I leave before you And I walk out alone Keep your hands to yourself When you follow me home - Whilst being out, perhaps at a bar or club, they are not wanting to be around others and wish to be alone to mull things over perhaps. I think in this phase they are perhaps separated as he says "and I walk out alone" implying without taking someone back to his... like a date/hook up etc. Then the protagonist continues on to say about refraining from being abusive when the person inevitably follows them back to their place. They can't let go of one another, even though when they are together it is destructive. I don't want love I don't want love -Obvious. The protagonist wants to be alone in peace rather than at the mercy of 'love' which in this context is seen as a painful, destructive force. We wake up with pounding heads Bruised down below I should have built better walls Or slept in my clothes - Pounding heads from the fighting and again, perhaps even the physical violence of a fight between one another. "Bruised down below" could refer to anything below their neck or 'down below' a euphemism for genitals. Here the protagonist is almost addressing themselves, voicing their regret that they once again forfeited their better judgement and let the person into their life again: "I should have built better walls" (to keep them out) "Or slept in my clothes" (Either a literal meaning of not having physical contact or intimacy with them OR a metaphor for not being naked and vulnerable in front of the antagonist.) So if I see you again Desperate and stoned Keep your prison locked up And I will leave my gun at home - This to me sounds like they are separated but the antagonist persists in getting into states and coming back, the protagonist is weak and lets them back in each time (always regretting it though as they usually suffer for their mistake: emotionally and physically). "Keep your prison locked up" - to me seems like a reference saying for the antagonist to keep their spiteful, violent, cruel side under control when they are with the protagonist "And I will leave my gun at home" implies that if they do control themselves he will not have to 'shoot them down' and defend himself against them (which would lead to further conflict and repeat the cycle over.) I don't want love I don't want love -Finished on the note that he does not want this, what he views as 'love' because of the destruction wrought. That is my interpretation of it. |
La Roux – Reflections are Protection Lyrics | 14 years ago |
All the shadows that I walk in Are just my volatile second skin. |
La Roux – Cover My Eyes Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I don't think it is actually unrequited love. It seems more like she has feelings, the object of her affections has feelings back but doesn't act on them. I think it is more about having strong feelings for someone and them liking you back but they can't act on the feelings because they are with someone and worry how others will perceive them if they do leave them for you. It's a beautiful song. |
Anathema – Dreaming Light Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Suddenly, life has new meaning Suddenly, feeling is being And you shine inside And love stills my mind like the sunrise. Dreaming light of the sunrise Suddenly, I don't have to be afraid Suddenly, it all falls into place And you shine inside And love stills my mind like the sunrise Dreaming light of the sunrise Dreaming light.. And you shine inside And love stills my mind like the sunrise Dreaming light of the sunrise I feel you but don't really know you I dreamed of you from the moment I saw you. And I've seen the sunrise in your eyes The sky, the sea, the light Live your dream beneath the northern horizon Be at peace, set your heart in flight again For the light is truth. The light is you... |
AFI – Darling, I Want To Destroy You Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This song is gorgeous, my fav off of Crash love. The lyrics above are incorrect, in the bookley it's "demure" not din on... |
Blaqk Audio – Semiotic Love Lyrics | 15 years ago |
It's simply about fictional love. Whereas in Cities of Night the lyric says "wait for a love that never dies and you've lost life" it's the very same principle, but instead of not loving and waiting for a move style love, this song is about someone infatuaded with some kind of celebrity. "I will ask you this. Can you spare a kiss? Can you picture this coming from my lips? A whisper from miles away." It's like they are speaking to/building up the fantasy they are falling into in their mind. "I will send you this And seal it with a kiss. Can you take this lipstick and lightplay, And carry it miles away?" This delusional idea that somehow it is remotely possible that the obsession may one day learn of the 'love' and involve themselves in it, carry those feelings with them. A hideously romantic notion. "I will walk 'cross the ocean To where the sky meets the sea, Give this ghost my devotion, To keep you from me." It's the whole issue of struggling to distract themselves from their obsession, in this case they use other people but it all ends up making their fantasy all the more painful and bittersweet. "Just say goodbye. I live, and i'll die. Hooked on a star, enraptured by the sky, In love with a satellite." Quite an ambiguous stanza; there are two linear meanings (potentially) and that is "goodbye" to people who, as above mentioned, try to tell her to give up on the fantasy. Or it could be goodybe to herself in the sense that she is giving up on all the mundane things in her life (friends, going out etc) in order to focus more strongly on the obsession. Hooked on a star...is obvious. In love with a satellite is just a metaphor for being in love with something that is far from us but which revolves around our planet (in this case her obsession is her world and he/she is the satellite orbiting him/her but out of reach) "I can now admit I'm lost in loveliness. Who could just resist distant beauty? Find me if you find a way. You may love it if you tried this detachment. From this distance the beauty burns brightly. It's warmer from worlds away." The protagonist is happy because they believe that they are just in thinking they have a chance, that it IS possible that somehow fate could conspire to lead them together, because in their mind it is destiny that they should be in love. "Find me if you find a way" is almost like talking to the universe and imploring it to bring them together. The line about detachment is obviously telling others that they may find happiness if only they followed the same view on love/life that the protagonist is and give up on their 'trivial' lives. The final two lines are self-explanitory...things always look better from a distance. You see a couple holding hands and you imagine they have the perfect love, but in reality they have to deal through the same relationship crap as the rest of us, we only see the good parts though from far off, until we get up close and the pretence falls apart. The rest of the song is just repeating the cycle. So yes, all in all I believe it's a song that just details a story of someone obsessed/infatuated with a celebrity. Makes me thing of the song "Movie" by The Birthday Massacre, which has a similar concept. |
Blaqk Audio – Cities of Night Lyrics | 15 years ago |
One possible interpretation. "I've seen what you have made in all it's beauty. What I cannot create I recognize." - Is like the protagonist -davey as narrator- describing the feelings that 'love' bring to a person. He can't solely create them for himself but he knows them, and he see's that the other person makes him feel beautiful and good. "Let's watch the night explode, just hold onto me. I'll whisper you this truth uncompromised." - A romantic setting, the perfect love, self-realisation of 'uncompromised truth' ( I love you) "Wait for a heart that never lies, but not this time. Watch those explosions in the sky and you'll go blind, but not this time." -I agree with the analogy as love as blinding fireworks. This part is the self-doubt setting in and saying 'do I really love them or am I just blinded by the thrill and haze that passion brings?' "Will you live in hope or dark desire? What can I say? Fuck love give me fire." - questioning yourself in your mind, then as if saving yourself the pain of love just deciding 'well fuck it then, i'll just screw about' "Have you seen what I've made beneath the wreckage? Just suffer through the dust and there you'll find the color of a night that burned out from us. Surrounded by it's glow our city lies." -The "wreckage" could describe the mental confusion and mess, and what he has "made" is a person who is cynical of love and ruled by feelings of doubt and self-depreciation. the reference to the dust could be the after-effects of the incident that caused the wreckage, a reference to a car-crash i'd say. The colour of the night and the glow of the city line i'm unsure about. But if I had to guess i'd say it was about the city as the sanctuary of his one time happiness and emotions. "Wait for a love that never dies and you've lost life. One overdoes just to survive. We'll shine this time. We'll make headlines. " The first line is self-explanitory. If you wait too long for a endless love and one that is perfect you will waste your life and never find it. You will miss the oppertunity for a realistic love. An overdose to survive is like saying you need to kill off certain parts of yourself to function once again and live in this life, rather than be marred by depression and low self-esteem. Then it's as if the cycle starts again with "we'll shine this time..." and as though he is determined to repeat the process above but instead of following the path of dark desire, he will follow the path of hope. I realise i'm probably very wrong but as I said, just one perspective of the song, which I think is the best of Cexcells. I also recomment listening to "Movie" by The Birthday Massacre which has similar sentiments towards love. |
The Birthday Massacre – Blue Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Lol, it's odd to have so many people agree with me. I'm sure there are many other numberous meanings to the song. I think Never_Ever has a good point about the fake happy and then the true angry. The song could well be about the duplicitous and bitchy nature of people (forgive me but, girls in particular). I was a little bit upset there wasn't a song of this calibre on Walking With Strangers (though it is still a fantastic album) |
The Birthday Massacre – Movie Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Regardless of it's meaning, I love the song. It's soo forlorn and detached but at the same time the music is very final and almost sweet. |
The Birthday Massacre – Movie Lyrics | 16 years ago |
A movie is a motion picture, so this is a movie of someones life, and in particular, their love. "Face them, the time will erase them, stop trying to chase them" Is about just accepting that whoever they were with wasn't right for them, and to give up on them now. At least I think it's that. It just seems like a song that is generally about letting go of what is unattainable. |
Frou Frou – Must Be Dreaming Lyrics | 16 years ago |
There is a bit in the song, at the end, at 2:31 where she says something before "I don't fall in love lawlessly" but it's not "I must be dreaming" it something like 'And just what'd you meet me for' or something. |
Blaqk Audio – Bitter For Sweet Lyrics | 16 years ago |
"...Where is salvation? Science, saviors, tragedy?" Best lyric ever. Where do we find our own saviour and the thing that helps us cope or move on from our pain? in science (medicine), saviours (religion and heros), tragedy (death/suicide) Leaves it open for interpretation. I mostly agree with myeternaldecade on the general meaning. |
Plumb – Cut Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I do not self-harm, no cutting. I have various problems I will not openly discuss on the internet. It's not a competition of who is more in woe. This song is a beautiful expression of how it can sometimes feel to be stuck in a situation that is beyond your control, that never seems to end, and that others may recognise but cannot help with. It's about the contradictory feelings of being a way that destroys you slowly and you want to be free of, but at the same time it makes you who you are. |
Anathema – Re-Connect Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I love the little reprieves in the song. "I could never turn to you..." and the bit mentioned above. It's such a good song and I think it's quite general and self-explainatory but at the same time you could apply deeper levels of meaning to it. |
Mazzy Star – I've Been Let Down Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Yeah, it's a great song from a great album Ashame Mazzy Star aren't that well known these days as they're so unique. |
Mazzy Star – I've Been Let Down Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Yeah, it's a great song from a great album Ashame Mazzy Star aren't that well known these days as they're so unique. |
Type O Negative – Christian Woman Lyrics | 17 years ago |
In the video the lyrics are different from the album version of the song. |
Anathema – Shroud Of False Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I love it. "I hope you don't understand" is saying that he hopes we don't know the deep sadness associated with knowing how pathetically short and pointless are lives are. |
Anathema – Closer Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Isolation is the theme of this song. The way the song is presented is so abstract and detached from the human anathema that it is almost like the inner voice singing rather than the physical being. It's the idea that no matter who we meet or what we do it all ends at some point, and we can't cling onto our happiness forever which makes this life so lonely and scary that we have to face it all on our own. |
Tokio Hotel – Spring Nicht-English Lyrics | 17 years ago |
On top of the roof the air is so cold and so calm. I say your name in silence I don't want to hear it right now. The eyes of the city are counting the tears falling down. Each one a promise of everything you never found. I scream into the night for you Don't make it true, don't jump. The lights will not guide you through they're decieving you don't jump. So let memories go of me and you the world is down there out of view. Please don't jump. You open your eyes but you can't remember what for. The snow falls so quietly, you just can't feel it no more. Somewhere out there you lost yourself in your pain And dream of the end to start all over again. (Chorus) I don't know how long I can hold you so strong I don't know long Just take my hand and give it a chance, don't jump. (Chorus) And if all that can't hold you back. I'll jump for you. |
Nebelhexe – Totems Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Ooops, it should be "how". I am retarded and can no longer type! Sorry about that. |
Nebelhexe – Totems Lyrics | 17 years ago |
These lyrics have errors in. On the song where it says "Frighten me as they Seduce my soul" Andrea actually sings :"Oh hoy they hypnotize and speak to my mind." |
Frou Frou – The Dumbing Down of Love Lyrics | 17 years ago |
One of those rare songs that you don't just hear, you experience it and it changes something about you. Brings a moment of stark realisation to me everytime I hear this song. |
Anathema – Sentient Lyrics | 17 years ago |
So brilliant |
Nebelhexe – Sleeping beauty Lyrics | 17 years ago |
A dream of past lives: One life a wolf, one live a young girl, then present Andrea as a youth. How all of the energies in her past lives seep into one another and fill her mind with the beauty and power of the old ways. |
Anathema – Violence Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think it's a flute? might be a clarinet. |
Anathema – Violence Lyrics | 17 years ago |
The beginning part of this song, when the flute comes really stands out, I think it's at about 1 min 7 seconds, is just so beautiful. It's hard to explain how a piece of music can express so much emotion but for me that part does. The whole song does but that bit does the most. It's so beautiful and tragic, a sorrowful elegy almost. Anathema will never be surpassed. |
Björk – Earth Intruders Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Turmoil and carnage can be good. Order is not always good. It traps people in routines and can be a bad thing which causes life to stagnate. You can have creative destruction, chaos opens the doorway to change and maybe that is whay she touches upon in this song? It's a brilliant song. |
Nebelhexe – Underworld Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This song is about traveling into the underworld. You are not dead in the sense that you no longer have any conciousness, but you are dead in the sense that you have lost your physical body(albeit for a short while, hence - undead.) The reference is just about attunement and learning to see things beyond the mundane world and what our minds are confined to know as possible and impossible. Traveling to a sacred place where energies are more prevalent. "Say good-bye to the descending sun"- Leaving the world of the living, best lyric of the entire album. |
Sigur Rós – Untitled 3 Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Beautiful. Soooo beautiful. I love SR, they can express so much with one song, more than an eternity of words could ever express. Wish I could see them live. |
Anathema – Emotional Winter Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Possibly one of the greatest Anathema songs. |
Cradle of Filth – Cemetery And Sundown Lyrics | 17 years ago |
According to Dani on the website interview about the album, he says it's about vamps. You know...old school cradle yak yak yak. |
Cradle of Filth – Tonight In Flames Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think it could be about religious fundamentalism/fanaticism. It's not like COF though to make songs which so heavily relate to current situations. I always thought they eschewed political musings (or dropped them more subtley into songs) in favour of doing fantastical songs. Does anyone know what is said in the deep spoken voice, in the part after "the eastern sword must fall." I think it is: "The cowardly, the unbelieving, the violent, the murderers, the ideologists and all liars. There place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulphur" |
AFI – Love Like Winter Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Well the lyrics booklet of the album says it's war. And I agree with ASweetEmbrace as far as meaning goes. |
Marilyn Manson – Disassociative Lyrics | 17 years ago |
The name implies a state when people consider themselves to be a different person/entity, commonly seen in child abuse cases. The song seems to, in a way, be like a conversation between the person that is in 'space' *lost in their own psyche* and the one who is the front, who walks around and interacts in society. "That world was killing me, world was killing me." is the reason why he retreated into his own mind. I do not think it is a literal indication of suicide by the tense used. Other lines like the first line of the first stanza are observations/thoughts conveyed to the 'front' by the 'spaceman' The nervous system part just means that he can no longer feel anything.Good or bad, is all nothing to him and that people seem to be noticing it. "Sometimes we walk like we were shot through our heads, my love. We write a song in space like we are already dead and gone. That world was killing me, world was killing me. Disassociative. That world was killing me, world was killing me. Disassociative." This stanza, to me, seems to be a reply from the 'front' saying that they are noticeably acting in a way that is abnormal to society. The part about write a song is saying that the spaceman thinks and reacts to/about things in a manner that is not unlike being dead. Without care. The spaceman is alive, but does not act like it. The chorus is self-explanitory. Anyway, that is my pennies worth on it. |
Stabbing Westward – Darkest Days Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Such a raw and powerful song. |
The Birthday Massacre – Blue Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This is a very personal interpretation so I don't expect it to be right, but how it seems to me is: Plastic blue is one aspect of a personality, the nice and slightly naive part that is most often shown by someone rather than the harsh and realistic part, so really plastic blue, or blue is a person. Stanza one is the anticipation of someones arrival. The person I care(d) about I get really worked up about if they are comming round and just wait for them and have feelings and sentences that I reserve(d) only for us and that I wouldn't say to anyone else. It seems that this stanza might be like that. Sunlight fading to me makes me imagine waiting for someone who never shows up. It's that passing of time and dissapointment. The second stanza is the other aspect of someones personality. The honest voice that tells us how shitty people can be someitmes and how they treat us badly. "Romance is breaking every heart in two, casting shadows in the pale shade of blue". Love and the other person is heatbreaking, and it is having a negative impact on the usual moods/personality of the person. Blue is the 'everyday/normal' person as they go through their day-to-day life. Stanza three is blue, the personality that is naive, but this time blue is reeling from the big let down and feels crappy about it all. "Conversations in my room"- to me is when you talk to yourself, you know that something is damaging yet you want it so much you try to argue against your better judgement and defend it and justify it. Twilight fading seems again to represent time moving on and the situation getting worse. Stanza four is the anger and honesty in the persons mind breaking out again. This time though "reflections cutting every face in two", in other words they blame themselves for the other persons behavoir. After all, if there was nothing wrong with you then why would they treat you so badly? You tend to blame yourself and this is what I think is happening in the song. It's a strange way to leave the song but I guess it might be about what people do in that kind of situation. Like I said anyway, that is my personal interpretation of the song and I am sure it is probably not very coherent but I'm feeling a bit crappy so I care little. boo hoo. |
Bush – Out of This World Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Mothra666, I was simple informing you so in future you could use the correct terminology. If you chose to misconstrue that as me patronizing you then so be it. And oh no..the possible consequences, I love the misplaced bravado people come up with on the net. Pathetic little dolt. |
Nebelhexe – Celtic Crows Lyrics | 18 years ago |
You'd either have to be a really stupid pagan or perhaps not a pagan not to know what this song is about. Which leads me to the question...why would a non-pagan listen to nebelhexe or hagalaz runedance?! hmm. Well yeah, it's about the Morrighan, the celtic tripple war goddess who is astonishingly over popular with those lame little reconstructionist american wannabe irish who annoy me by getting in my photos of Avebury and getting in my way at Glastonbury. Good song though. |
Lacuna Coil – Falling Lyrics | 18 years ago |
It seems to be about depression. "And now the beat inside of me is a sort of a cold breeze and I've never any feeling inside around me… I bring my body carry it into another world I know I live… but like a stone I'm falling down" The beat is her heart beat though she doesn't feel like she is living and she feels like she should carry herself into the otherworld/afterlife. She doesn't feel like she is actually alive, she just exists and feels nothing but emptyness and she is craving for it to end, but not for her existence to end. "I see that another day is gone I don't wanna die… Please be here when I'll arrive, don't die… please " The days just roll on by so meaningless and she just wants a change. It would seem that she has personified change and the lyric "Please be here when I'll arrive, don't die… please ", is addressing is directly and asking it to come and not to give up and leave her life like everything else. Well that's my take on it. Probably completely wrong but.. oh well. |
Front Line Assembly – The Blade Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I don't know what it all means, but there is so much sexual connotation in it that i'd guess it's just about being hedonistic and playing sadomasochistic sex games. But like I said, i'm not too sure. |
Anathema – Everwake Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Truely beautiful. Audio poetry at it's best. And if you type in everwake on google someone has a website with these lyrics (the incorrect version, the version i posted is off the sleeve of the resonance cd) and it has a beautiful image to accompany the lyrics. |
Anathema – Goodbye Cruel World Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Well who needs a suicide note these days when you can just put on a cd and put it on repeat!! It's very sombre song, but really peaceful at the same time. Well, the version on the resonance cd is. |
Sia – Breathe Me Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This song is so beautiful. I've listened to it whilst driving and it's so sad at parts but you realise that it's a song which shows others out there feel how you do, so really it's not that bad. And I agree with sbto on the meaning. |
Anathema – J'Fait une Promesse Lyrics | 18 years ago |
So beautiful, it reminds me alot of the song Everwake by anathema. The music is sooo beautiful and the lyrics are pure poetry. By far one of my favourite British bands of all time! |
Bush – Out of This World Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This song is about how love transcends beyond death. Death is the end of life, not love. And Mothra666, it's called alluding. |
Stabbing Westward – Television Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This song is so fantastic! It's become like an anthem for everyone who actually isn't sucked in by the mindless droning of television. It's just about feeling different, why is he 'more awake' so to speak and why does he feel so different. My fav part is: "When I look around I see numb empty faces The world is waiting to die" So poignant. |
The Birthday Massacre – Blue Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think you above are both right in some way. Blue is usually a placid colour, and this song to me seems to show two points to the colour, just like there are two points to everything. I love Chibi's voice in this. |
The Birthday Massacre – Happy Birthday Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This song is just SO amazing! I can't wait till I see them in July at the rock city in nottingham! This is my favourite song! And I agree with TheDownwardSpiral with regards to the songs meaning. |
Stabbing Westward – So Far Away Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Just so you know those lyrics are WRONG! the beggining part is "Each night I feel the distance" And then on the 4th verse it should be "As you lay silently beside me" |
