Based on bass player Jeremy Cunningham battle with heroin addiction. On first glance you could be mistaken that it is a song about a girl, but as you hear/read the lyrics you can see a poisonous relationship with drugs |

| Levellers – Beautiful Day Lyrics

I find it ironic that the general media, used this as an upbeat happy song without going into what the lyrics were about. I know my local radio station and the Daily Record(Scottish national paper) used it for radio ads. This song is about dreaming of revolution and thinking it will improve things but realising in reality nothing will change. The reference:
Wealth re-distribution, became the new solution
So I got a paper bag, but you got the one with all the holes
I think is in reference to the Russian revolution and communism promising things will get better but they didn't |

Fawkes was a revolutionary, how better to start a revolution than to blow up parliament and the dream to watch it blow
"And wasn't it incredible, so beautiful and above all
Just to see the fuse get lit this time
To light the real bonfire, for all time"

| Adam Ant – Antmusic Lyrics

I feel this song has more importance now more than ever. It seems to me that this song is about the alternative music cultures that sprang up at the time Adam Ant started out in the punk scene and dabbled in the new romantics. I think he is trying to say that you don't need to follow the masses and to be an individual. Todays music is almost forced down our throats with all this reality tv talent shows, telling us what is good and bad a lot of people would not be able to find individual music if it was playing next door to them. |

I have my own views on this excellent song song of which are shared by other posters. I was young when this came out around 5 or 6 at the time and never really understood it till much later. The late 70's and early 80's was a mad time in Britain the cold war loomed over everything even as a young kid I could understand that unemployment was high, poverty was rife. I think Joe combined all the unrest and depression with history to make a classic song that hit a chord with the youth at the time. The first verse is a call to stand up and take action to stop the decline that the government was trying to gloss over. The ice age is coming chorus is looking at the problems of nuclear power both in energy and weapons and the flooding of london. It could be said that him living by the river he would be one of the first to die but I always thought of it as his escape route. The second verse is to do with the whole apathy in the cities with the high unemployment and no prospects of work or anything to pass the time. |

As Jeremy says on some of live performances 'there's one of these in every town.' it is about the 'other ' side of life in towns with the down and outs and poor people who the middle class just try to forget about |

It is all about the 3 IRA members shot in Gibraltar because they thought they were going to plant a car bomb, they were unarmed and shot in cold blood when they were ment to have been arrested, using murder for justice is wrong and the British government condemns other countrys doing it yet get away with doing it themselves |

what others say is right this is the 'money' song for the album a song specifically for release I don't know if they were told to right a song for single release and came up with this or they already had it but I think the sound fits in well with the album if not the lyrics. the song is a brillant veiw of corruption of money and money is the drug we all crave |

maybe it is because I've never heard this original version and only the Sinead O'Conner cover but to me it is defenataly a live baby because at the end of the 4th verse when And she and Billy Joe was throwing somethin' off the Tallahatchie Bridge there is a noice like a child crying added on but still I love this song it is so sad and well told |

one of maidens very best songs and saying any cover is better than this is a load of bullcrap. Don't need to say what the song is about I'd think it is well and truley obvious about a man on death row. The very last line missed above ooooooo hallowed be thy name repeated is I think about when he is heading to the gallows he is running this line that 'the priest who gave him the last rites' spoke. Personally I'm not sure if this is about the salem which trials, you have got to remember that the form of execution in Britan till it stopped was hanging and I think it is about a British convict sitting in a dreary victorian prison |

I didn't realise this was about space travel I always thought it was about a young boy going off to war in the year of '39 and after a year of fighting he comes home a lot older inside because of the sights hes seen and things he's done. Don't know that now I know the truth it fits better but it is still an amazing song |
