| Joan Jett – Crimson And Clover Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I had thought it was about BDSM -- clover clamps, and crimson marks on his/her skin. But that was assuming it was original to Joan Jett, and knowing how many of her songs have kinky undertones -- if it's a cover, I guess that's less likely. | |
| 16 Horsepower – Sinnerman Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| A Nina Simone cover | |
| Black Sabbath – Children Of The Grave Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
It probably isn't what black sabbath were thinking of, but this reminds me of the childrens crusade - a thing in the 13th century where children were sent off to their death because of somebody's religious vision. so it warns me against people who tell children to rebel for the sake of it. Yeah, none of that is really in the song, just what it makes me think about. |

| US Bombs – Beetle Boot Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Sounds very Clash-like | |
| The Cure – 10:15 Saturday Night Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
OK, I do appreciate what murderrapelove says about the sounds. But I can't help finding it all a bit trivial and comic. It reminds me of Adrian Mole's poem: The tap drips and keeps me awake, In the morning there will be a lake. For the want of a washer the carpet will spoil, Then for another my father will toil. My father could snuff it while he is at work. Dad, fit a washer don´t be a burk! |

| The Sisters of Mercy – Ghost Rider (Suicide cover) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Adoring SoM fan I may be, but this just makes me think 'wtf?'. One of the Sisters' less impressive moments. Boring, unchanging sound, inane semi-lyrics, wolf-like howling with no purpose | |
| Joy Division – Disorder Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| the singer sounds so bored, in the second verse at least. How can you sing "On the tenth floor, down the back stairs, it's a no man's land // Lights are flashing, cars are crashing, getting frequent now" like it's the fishing report? But I guess if it is about epilepsy that might make a bit more sense. | |
| Liz Phair – Uncle Alvarez Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
To me it's about how little of life consists of the 'great accomplishments' that get attached to other people. It seems to say that you shouldn't judge people by that, and also that you shouldn't try to be judged like that. If you try to make a name for yourself, you end up bending the truth, and paying your old college, and glorifying yourself in postcards to your family. I think the song is actually quite fond of Uncle Alvarez - but fond of aspects of him that won't be remembered in the family history. He's used to dance, and he's the one whose life has been messed up by the need to do things for the sake of posterity, or family glory, or whatever it is. |
