Cursive – Opening the Hymnal/Babies Lyrics 19 years ago
Okay, well, on the Babies section: I think Kasher is once again hitting on the spot of our existence. Humans grow up selfish, self-absorbed; we think everything is about us and affects us in some way. We think about only ourselves, and we need to realize that there is something greater than that. We have to realize that we're not the only ones who are important; we have to break away from our little bubble of self-involvement.

Panic! at the Disco – Lying Is the Most Fun a Girl Can Have Without Taking Her Clothes Off Lyrics 20 years ago
I'm going to admit that I despise Panic!'s lyrics and songs and yet secretly know the words to their songs. Anyway.

No one feels even a little bit disgruntled that they took the line from "Closer"? That they couldn't think of something that was, oh, I don't know, their own?

By the way, if the meaning "harlequin" is still confusing, think Joker's girlfriend: Harley Quinn. The costume that she wears, the type of person she is when she's with her "Mr. J." That's what I think of.

Rx Bandits – Never Slept So Soundly Lyrics 20 years ago
I think this song is about drugs. And RxB basically personified drugs/drug addiction in this piece.

Rx Bandits – Decrescendo Lyrics 20 years ago
fakest elation = drugs, maybe? i heard that one of the other songs on The Resignation was about drugs. So maybe he's going back to that concept - also with society becoming more dependent on drugs and finding happiness in that.

I've got it all worked out now - self explanatory.

Just a memory, picture frames illusion. - actually, i always thought it was "just a memory - picture-framed illusion." memory, because it's quick and subjective so another thing that we're deluding ourselves. picture-framed illusion .. hmm .. i'm not sure, but that's got me thinking.

Rx Bandits – Decrescendo Lyrics 20 years ago
Um, the last maybe minute or so is my most favorite part ever. As soon as I hear it coming up, I just have to break out and start dancing or something similar to that. God, that part's just amazing.

Cursive – Harold Weathervein Lyrics 20 years ago
I know that Harold is a play on Herald. Just like Weathervein vs Frankenstein. Tim Kasher is definitely trying to pull off all his puns and word plays. Kind of like Shakespeare, or Margaret Atwood. ;P Ugh, this is just one of the most powerful pieces, and even if he didn't mean that to be, it's just more than amazing.

Maybe Harold is supposed to be a representation of US, the listener?

Cursive – A Gentleman Caller Lyrics 20 years ago
I'm going to disagree with this concept album being mysogynistic. Maybe it's because Cursive is one of my favorite bands (of all times), but looking at it -- this song -- objectively, I can't see where you get the feeling of "male appropraition and exploitation of feminity."

In these lyrics, all I see is a relationship, possibly based on what he has done - considering how most of his songs are reflections of his own tribulations. There's a couple, the man got bored, grew lazy, became disinterested but he still had feelings for the girl, so he couldn't leave her. And she felt she couldn't do anything about it. But when she does take the drastic measures of sleeping with someone else, because she wants to enact revenge on her lover, she realizes what a mistake she made.

And the ending shows that she is stronger than that - she knows that it was a mistake to do something like that, to think that she had to DO that (cheating on her lover), and I think even the music, the way it was played is a sweet complement to that.

Also, I think the first 3/4 of the song is AMAZING, and while I kind of understand why he pulls it back for the last two minutes, that's not my favorite part (I wonder if I'm alone in saying that?). The lyrics are just beautiful, and they really bring out all the bitterness and anger that people in a relationship could feel.
