Cold Chisel – Wild Colonial Boy Lyrics 20 years ago
Chisel's best lyric. I occasionally find myself sitting in meetings with boring pricks and silently singing the lyric:

And if I smile,
When they crawl around
Too condescending to blame me
I am young,
Baby they're so old
Gothic, religious and tame

Cold Chisel – Flame Trees Lyrics 20 years ago
Great track and always creates a feeling of melancholy in me whenever I hear it. I reckon it's partyly saying that you can go back to the haunts of your youth but don't expect a guarantee that all will be the same. Puts me off doing just that!

Sweet – Teenage Rampage Lyrics 20 years ago
It's clearly obvious that this was another in the line of 'teenage rebellion' themed songs written by Nick Chinn and Mike Chapamn. The band didn't really like the song. The crowd chants of 'We Want Sweet' at the beginning of the song are studio trickery! It's a few roadies and some clever work by the production team.

Sweet – Love Is Like Oxygen Lyrics 20 years ago
A love song written by the band's guitarist Andy Scott based on an idea from their sound man and some time pianist Trevor Griffin There's no truth in the rumour that the line 'There's a rumour going around the town that you don't want me around' deals with the band planning to sack singer Brian Connolly even though he was fired less than a year after the track was recorded.

Sweet – The Six Teens Lyrics 20 years ago
The song is often regarded as the best track written by Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman for The Sweet. it deals with six teenagers who had to deal with the change from the idyllic and idealistic 1960's to the more confronting 1970's.

Sweet – Sweet F.A. Lyrics 20 years ago
This song is inspired by "A Clockwork Orange" type violence. The band was very frustrated by their lack of critical acclaim at the time of writing and their anger often spilled over into their songwriting. The original song lyrics were a lot more direct in their attack on critics.

Sweet – The Lies in Your Eyes Lyrics 20 years ago
This song was the (UK/European) follow up to "Action" and was again written by the band as a response to the critics who slammed them mercilessly.

Sweet – Little Willy Lyrics 20 years ago
The song was written for The Sweet who only sang on the track and was the first on which they showed off their new 'glam' image. It was classified as 'bubblegum' in the UK and criticised for it's 'nursery porn' lyrics. After the track was recorded the band rebelled and demanded the right to play on their next single. The writers (Chapman-Chinn) agreed but used the underlying tensions to create more great pop-rock.

Sweet – Funny Funny Lyrics 20 years ago
The song was written by Mike Chapman and Nicky Chinn as an unabashed rip-off of The Archies 'Sugar Sugar". It was not written for The Sweet specifically but when producer Phil Wainman met the struggling band he thought they'd be a perfect vehicle for the track much like The Archies!

Sweet – Fox On The Run Lyrics 20 years ago
The song is about a prostitute. Dunno why she's referred to as a 'Fox On The Run' but the band says it's so.

Sweet – Ballroom Blitz Lyrics 20 years ago
The song was written by Mike Chapman after he saw the pandemonium the band was creating at their gigs. He specifically saw a show in Glasgow and wrote this track afterwards trying to give the listener an account of the mayhem. The 'roll-call' intro was an acknowledgement of a promoter who came into the backstage area before the show and was repeatedly and excitedly asking thed band if they were ready.

Sweet – Action Lyrics 20 years ago
This song was written by the band to vent their spleens on all the hangers-on that successful bands attract. It tells of their frustration at giving 10% to this guy, 5% to another and at end of the day having handed out all their profits to the 'machine'. It also responds to the critical pasting the band took from music magazine writers who thought it was cool to lag the band.
