I think that it's not as bleak as caity_grace suggests. I think that when he says heaven help me, he is trying to be a better person, possibly because of a previous relationship which made him afraid of falling in love, and hence various problems arised. |

I listen to this song whenever I feel bad, or get jealous. I tend to get very jealous, even when I really shouldn't. This song just reminds me to not be jealous, and to just be glad to be with her. |

Since Gary Numan constantly writes songs about robots taking over the world, I think this would be about the beginning of the end of human civilization. I think this is about robot assassin/spy droids being built by some other superpower, or maybe just other robots. Yet the designers of it would be human, since they are liquid engineers, *like us*.
anywho thats my take on it. |

I think it's about getting back with an old ex, while you're with somebody else at the same time.
You're getting back with her because
"She turns me on
She makes me real
I have to apologize
For the way I feel" - in a way you just don't want it, cause you've supposedly moved on by now. |

| Nine Inch Nails – Zero-Sum Lyrics

Has anybody ever considered that the entire year zero thing could have just been a simulation on a computer if America's government became as corrupt as year zero's? And that the AI of all the people was so advanced that they themselves had feelings. Maybe this is about the program shutting down? I just thought of this now. I like the traditional idea of Year Zero but I think i should just add this as an accidental meaning. I thought of this from the line "And all we ever were: Just Zeros and Ones"
Maybe we're all robots that can breed built by "The Presence" Maybe we were coded in binary?
Maybe that line just refers to the government records of the population all being saved on a computer. |

Yeah I think this is about the revolution of the resistance against the government after they captured the president. Then the song 'The Great Destroyer' is about the resistance's regime becoming corrupt. The world ever closer coming to a halt in 'Zero Sum' |

Sure it might have other meanings, but I think Trent was just aiming at 'the angry sniper' thing. I dont think hes decided to rebel yet. I think hes just realizing how screwed things are, and hes trying to live with it. |

I think its about 2 cancer patients. They become friends only because they are both terminally ill. The "put out the fire" could be a reference to chemo therapy. everybody i know who has gone through it says that it feels like fire is running through their body. that it feels like you are dying and most times its hard to take the pain. so he wishes that the pain would stop |

He mugged an orphan for the pass.
It could be about whacking the gherkin too much. Even though the heroin addiction thing is most probably in Ak's book.
"Looking in my own eyes
I can't find the love I want
Someone better slap me
Before I start to rust... " - he's ashamed of himself
"Pleasure spiked with pain" - Ever whacked off 3 times in an hour?
"That motherfucker's always spiked with pain" - He's been doing this for a while now
"Sitting in my kitchen (hey girl)" "Push her voice inside of me" - Maybe he's watching porn?
"...Could cut my throat
One note could make me die" - He's so ashamed of himself that he's considering suicide.
Okay maybe this isn't the right interpretation of the song, but isn't it nice to have many different meanings? One should stand out with maybe a few compliments here and there.
:) - Peace out - :) |

Could this song be about regretting being a drug dealer?
Like how what you sell is destroying people's lives? And that there is a nice sweet client, but you feel bad that your destroying her life?
Anyways thats my take on it.. Peace :) |

I love listening to this song whenever i feel down. My dad died when i was 6 months old after we immigrated to Australia to try and treat him. My mum, step bro and I lived in a housing commision house. Sometimes i feel like he just gave me a name and then walked away... :(
My mum later had many abusive and asshole boyfriends, The current father figures for me are my step bro, and my mums ex's son. They've always looked out for me and helped me through any troubles that i face.
"I will never be sane
I will always be weird inside
I will always be lame" - This part is exactly like me
Well yeh nice song :) |

I agree that this is a great song, but watching that episode of friends, and this song with it, was just so moving, and so yeh, great song but ever since i watched that episode it brings tears to my eyes :(
Oh and I've only just finished season 3, so forgive me if I haven't got the whole thing yet. But i believe that this song fitted perfectly to that episode, mainly because of the whole thing that Ross loves Rachel so much, that he can't stand being without her, and yet shes always away, and hes always waiting. |

Crok ruined the fun,
Here's my interpretation:
** Listen to the song as you read, it will make much more sence**
It's about a boy called Timothy Jonathan, while playing super nintendo in his parents basement, aliens came and visited him, and took him aboard their spaceship and probed him and tried various things on him to enhance his body.
He became a SuperHuman although they had to sacrifice his size in order for his muscles to be big without using extra resources. He was kidnapped by a group of raging clowns who came on diesel, V8 engined go karts. The clowns forced him to do many acrobatic stunts, and his performance shocked the clowns. He became the circus' main attraction and was named lil Timmy. Then one of the clowns started to get jealous, so he cornered Timmy, and threatened to kill him, unless Timmy were to leave the circus forever. The circus was Timmy's life so he jumped up in the air and kicked the clowns face. The clowns face went inside out and then a larger clown climbed out of what was left of his mouth and started calling to him saying "Timothy! Timothy! Timothy!" suddenly 4 aliens appeared and kicked the clowns ass to China Town, and the world was saved. |
