| all though i think referencing to Christ is contraversial i dont think the song is about Jesus. He uses this example to somewhat exaggerate his story of someone, the person not being important, but someone who is the "savior" and is the one who "cleans up after everyone". someone who is giving to an extent which is neggative or too giving. they no longer live for them selves, cannot say no to anyone and, in a sense being a "matyr". We know a friend that can never say no to anything; whether it be to paint a fence or mow the lawn but it is this character trait that is portrayed and personified into Christ. he uses the word "matyr as an exaggeration but goes to the extreme to use Christ to exaggerate his case further. this song is definately up to interpretation, in my opinoin is the reason why he wrote the song. it is made to be interpreted. although he might of wrote it on personal experiences with references of his wife and conner but it is definately made so that we as the audience can relate and it is this that makes music successful. great song. | |

"But the greatest among you shall be your servant" (Matthew 23:11) "For though I am free from all men, I have made myself a servant to all that I might win the more" (I Corinthians 9:19). "Whoever exalts himself will be abased, and he who humbles himself will be exalted" (Matthew 23:12). If any one would be first, they must be last of all and servant of all." Mark 9:35 just a few verses from the bible. it really emphisises to humble yourself instead of promoting yourself. thats what society has been so caught up in. its not about showing every one that your putting a large sum of money in the offering or look at me im helping a poor kid. its about serving and serving with humility. people wont want to follow someone who is self righteous. in I Corinthians 9:19 it sums it up so well. we as christians are on a mission to save the lost and the best way is to serve. "Evangelise at all times. Use words if necessary!" -St. Francis of Assisi. however much it may sounds cliché, the saying actions speak louder than words is so true. people arent going to want to follow someone who says one thing and acts out another. so be aware of that if you are getting caught up in that, because being a christian comes with responsibility. all praise be to God |

| the first stanza is all about how society these days is all about being materialistically "wealthy". hes asking himself why do i go to town and look at all theses signs or store advertisments? its because, (only just realising) that he subconsiously wants more matieral posessions so he can feel a sense of belonging. not quite sure what the next little bit is but i think its just about humbling himself. the chorus is about how without God he would be lost. sinai was around the same place where moses and his people wandered in the desert for forty years. he is thinking about ending it all (jumping in the way of the cars) until God surrounds him with his love and he finds a sense of hope. im unsure about the next bit: "your pretty but your all i can see, like a thick fog" it could be a girl and how she got in the way of him getting closer to God (all i can see, thick fog) but aaron uses a girl as metaphors a lot, usually as temptation. in this case it could be the wordly things, new clothes, car etc. just thoughts | |

| Magott, your not wrong. To me this is the what chrisitan music should be like. Instead of stuffing chrisitanity down poples throat he speaks so openely about christianity by showing life without God, and that is what non chrisitans can relate to and experience. The lyrics are there for interpretation, and the sometimes underlying chrisitan theme is there to be discovered. | |

he is searching for God but gets distracted/weighed down by sin. He is then bound by the sin (tied up) and God forgives him (unties him) and he then sins again. The seemingly beauty of sin distracts him from where he needs to be going and he ends up distancing himslef from God. (sweet heart being swept away) He finally finds what he is looking for (his hidden pearl) but thinks he is unworthy as he is so unclean. he is unsure that God has forgiven him as he continually sins after being "untied" just thoughts, take it or leave it |
