Beck – Devil's Haircut Lyrics 16 years ago
Beck himself has talked about the meaning of Devils Haircut on a few occasions. In one interview, he claimed that Devils Haircut was 'a really simplistic metaphor for the evil of vanity.' He said of the song:

“ I don't know if I ever HAD any youthful purity, but I can understand that you might be tempted to make commercial shit and compromise to do it. I try not to compromise on anything. I think we associate becoming an adult with compromise. Maybe that's what the devil is. In 'Devils Haircut' that was the scenario. I imagined Stagger Lee... I thought, what if this guy showed up now in 1996... I thought of using him as a Rumpelstiltskin figure, this Lazarus figure to comment on where we've ended up as people. What would he make of materialism and greed and ideals of beauty and perfection? His reaction would be, 'Whoa, this is disturbing shit.'

Film School – Two Kinds Lyrics 16 years ago
for anyone mildly intrigued as what the two kinds of love could be, (as far as I know) they are platonic and romantic love. I guess he's referring to the romantic one.

Audaciousmoose, kessler doesn't write the lyrics. He presents the first song ideas. I'd ask Paul....

Interpol – Precipitate Lyrics 19 years ago

the pitchfork interview w/ interpol says:

Pitchfork: Who's Stella, if anybody? I was wondering if it was a reference to, or was inspired by A Streetcar Named Desire.

Paul: Which is one of my favorite movies. It's not, and I don't know when we wrote that if I had really seen it. I probably had seen it, but no, it's not. I love the name. I went through a phase where I was fixated on girls names that, for me, kind of represented something. So in "Precipitate", Daphne is the character. It was actually more to do with certain female names that were really interesting to me. I had another song about a girl named Kat, too, but no, I don't know [a Stella] and it's not directly related to that film, even though I love that film.

i read something somwhere that paul sort of uses different girls names depending on what he likes at the time. For example: Daphne, Rosemary, Stella.
