Man, this song reminds me of my little sister's high school sweetheart named James (Jay) and had a very bad motorcycle accident. He survived, but suffered permanent brain damage... I remember him with this song because he and my sis used to play it all the time when it came out. |

I just watched the film "Joyeux Noel" and remembered seeing this song's video when I was a kid and how it shows the X-mas Truce during WWI... This is indeed a beautiful song with a very positive message. |

Wow, mlopes... I didn't know that one... By reading the lyrics and their context, I always assumed it was about the Mexican Revolution of 1910, particularly with the Rio Grande reference and the revolutionary tone of the song. |

Great song! I work in civil rights and whenever I feel a little down, I listen to this song. I wasn't around when it was originally released, but some veterans of the cause told me it was intended for that purpose... To give hope for a better tomorrow... Beautiful song... the combination of the blues guitar and xylophone really show the genius behnid these guys... as for the lyrics..while a bit on the mysoginistic side, they do convey an in-your face attitude that I am sure a lot of us guys could relate to at one point in our lives. |

The Term Rio Grande refers to the river that marks the U.S.-Mexico border (Americans call it the Rio Grande, Mexicans Rio Bravo)... The song is not about the Spanish Civil War, but rather about the Mexican Revolution that took place in the ealy 1900's. |
