| Faster Pussycat – House Of Pain Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This is a tough one to listen to. Without a dad since the time I was 9 years old. Always felt this was written for me I didn't write these pages And my script's been rearranged Couldn't say it better myself |

| Metallica – Until It Sleeps Lyrics | 17 years ago |
The meaning of this song has always been very clear to me. While it may have been inspired by the death of James’ father, it is clearly written from the point of one of Christ’s followers with some lines being sung to Christ, and some to Satan. The lyrics are the pleading of one of Christ’s followers to “hold him” and give him strength until “it” sleeps. The “it” is the devil’s temptation. Where do I take this pain of mine. I run but it stays right by my side. “The pain of sinning and being tempted by Satan” Just like a curse, just like a stray. You feed it once and now it stays, “Sin. Once you sin, the next is even easier to commit” So tear me open but beware There's things inside without a care, And the dirt still stains me “Dirt. Sin that has stained his soul” So tell me why you've chosen me “Sinner asking Satan why he has been chosen for temptation” Now tear me open make you gone No more can you hurt anyone, “Telling Satan that he has been saved” |

| Tracy Chapman – Fast Car Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I believe that the "fast car" Tracy sings about is not a car, but the potential the future holds. The driving is when the two of them were sharing life and trying to "drive" through life to a better place. Obviously, no one would decide to share their life with someone just because they have a fast car. The fast car metaphor is turned into the actual sense in the last verse, "So take your fast car and keep on drivin'". Incredible writing. I am not a fan of this style of music, but I believe this is the best song written in the 80s. |

| Billy Joel – Goodnight Saigon Lyrics | 18 years ago |
have been an avid analyst of lyrics for about 10 years. I have been trying to define the meaning of one of the phrases in Goodnight Saigon for quite a while now. Maybe someone can help. I need to know what the significance is of the number of rotors concerning: "They heard the hum of our motors, they counted the rotors, and waited for us to arrive." |

| Chevelle – Well Enough Alone Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Pretty clear to me. Listen to the chorus..."Why we leave well enough alone. NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT THE SHAME." What shame is he talking about? Pete lets us know with the last 2 lines. This is about a person with a sickness such as drug or alcohol addiction. The song is written from the perspective of a friend of the addict. The friend has seen how the addiction is hurting the addict, but does or says nothing (Leaves well enough alone). But he "Never thought about the shame" that he would have when the addict loses his battle and overdoses. "Never thought about the shame....WHEN YOU LEAVE" |

| The Cure – A Letter to Elise Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Have you ever had the chance to spend time with someone who completed your puzzle but prior attachments made it impossible to let the puzzle come together. I have had the chance. I found the final piece to my puzzle. We both had a "someone else" at the time but it couldn't stop the merging of our souls. 4 years later, I wonder why it is that we make some of the decisions that we do. I wonder if my current situation will ever complete my puzzle. I wonder if her puzzle is complete. I wonder why we let fear of the unknown succumb to the security of familiarity. You know who you are "Elise"...and I'll always wonder why "I let the dream go". Elise...believe I never wanted this I thought this time I'd keep all of my promises I thought you were the girl I always dreamed about But I let the dream go And the promises broke And the make-believe ran out... |

| Better Than Ezra – WWOZ Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I am fanatical when it comes to lyrical works. I am fascinated by songwriting and have written hundereds myself. My wife and I chose WWOZ to be our wedding song last October. I wish more music lovers had gotten a chance to hear this one. It is a song with levels of depth and imagary that have been left in the past. I wish I could let the members of Ezra know how touching this song is. I bet they never thought that it would turn out to be someone's wedding song. Could you ever say anything more profound and heartfelt than, "Let go of you fear, let's grow old together We'll find a place along the way Let's reel through the years EACH MAKES THE OTHER BETTER." "Don't wake me, I think I'm in a dream" Thank you Better Than Ezra |

| Pearl Jam – Nothingman Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Once divided...nothing left to subtract... When we split up, I was empty...nothing left to subtract. ****************************************** Caught a bolt 'a lightnin'...cursed the day he let it go... Did the impossible, found the perfect one, forever cursed because he let it go. ****************************************** And he who forgets...will be destined to remember... He who doesn't do everything he can to culture the relationship, will be haunted by the memories of how good it was, and questions of why he didn't appreciate it the way he should have. ****************************************** Coulda' been something...Nothingman |

| Pearl Jam – Off He Goes Lyrics | 20 years ago |
This song is about me an my brother. I am a high strung guy...going from city to city over the past 10 years...changing jobs frequently...living by the seat of my pants. My brother is the opposite...same job since college...he'll live in the same house for the rest of his life...very cool, calm and laid back. I imagine my brother wrote this song for me...possibly to try to coax me into slowing down, settling down, and coming down to Earth. And at the end of the song, just when he thinks that I have slowed down..."He's off again." |

| Counting Crows – Colorblind Lyrics | 20 years ago |
This is one of the most straight-forward lyrical masterpieces created by Adam Duritz. Most of Adam's lyrical efforts take some serious energy to comprehend, and are usually comprehended differently by different people. But not this one...this one has none of the complexity with which Adam usually intertwines his words. Colorblind represents someone staying within themselves...never allowing their "real" personality to shine through. The writer thinks he has found the right one who can free the real person inside of him. He is desperately pleading for that person to help bring him out of his shell..."Pull me out from inside". He had always been leary of exposing his inner self to the rest of the world..."I am covered my skin...No one gets to come in". But even still, the writer is not 100% comfortable with exposing his inner being, and keeps trying to convince himself that he is fine..."I am ready, I am ready, I am ready...I am fine". One of Adam's best job's turning concept into lyrics. |
