I think this is mostly about a relationship that just ended or should end. And the person knows they have to let go, but can't.
I think this sits as my least favorite green day album though.

"And if you get rid of God, then you have no logical basis for good and bad (values)"
And "Spread forth and multiply" doesn't sound like a reckless, suicidal concept to you? |

Could be about Iraq. Think about it in comparison to Urban Warfare, where kickin down the door and opening fire is a major part of. |

I'm surprised no one mentioned it yet but Stephen King was friends with Joey Ramone (I believe it was Joey if I remember correctly). King actually wrote a whole story about him and Joey going to a French Restaurant in the liner notes of the Ramones tribute CD. |

I wonder, which Wolfe he's referring to. There's quite a few authors by that name. I'm guessing it's Tom Wolfe though, who wrote the Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test. |

I think it has a lot to do about SETI and radio signals going out through space. I think its about SETI intercepting an alien signal of some kind and humanity realizing how truly insignificant we are. And also about realizing that at the same time our civilization has left an immortal mark in the universe with our electromagnetic communications.
Our radio signals will travel into space almost for eternity, and will exist somewhere in space til the end of the universe itself.
crazy stuff. And I also believe Pale Blue Dot must have influenced this song. |

The final verse is missing. Here it is.
Well, I tried to play for the higher stakes
You won't let me forget my mistakes
I'm unforgiven
And I'm down on the world again
This ain't the way it's supposed to be, there's a dark cloud
Following me
I'm distorted
And I'm down on the world aga |

I believe this song was about the original Beefcake (Bishop) leaving the band. I think this song was written and recorded right before he doing his last tour. |

The Unholy trinity is most likely refering to the first nuclar test codenamed "trinity". Or it could be refering to the Nuclear trifecta of Strategic Bombers, ICBM, and SLBMs. |

| Bad Religion – Part IV (The Index Fossil) Lyrics

An index fossil is a type of species that is known to have existed for only a short period of time. I'm not sure how short a period of time (in millions of years of course). But this gives Paleontologists a good marker for dating things in rock layers. Technically, what is being said is, after humanity whipes itself to extinction, millions of years of now we'd make a pretty good index fossil. |

About human conquest over nature. Destruction of the enviroment, hunting, etc. you know, that old chestnut.
Pretty much the same concept as Megadeth's Countdown to Extinction.
IMHO : definetely not one of BRs better songs. |
