Hmm. I think you're partially right. I believe that it's about the blind ambition of man to get what we want by any means necessary. We all want to make someone see something, and we are willing to kill to make that person believe. |

I agree with the soldier thing, but one more thing:
"But it's hard to admit how it ends and begins"
People don't like to admit that they began a conflict, so it's hard to admit how it begins, and people don't like admitting they're wrong, so that's the "end" part. |

Story Of The Year did a very good job of "speaking up against the man" with "In the Wake of Determination". If you wanna stick it to the man, then you should listen to their new cd and cause an uproar. They have some truly motivational songs. |

Actually, eltroyo, the whole song is basically about that, and the line "computers lie, they keep us in our lives" just means that messages sent by technology are just tools to keep us opressed by men who are equal to us, yet somehow have the ability to control us through ideas of government and law; ideas of right and wrong. When in fact nothing they say is really true, they just use computers (or any form of technology) to transmit these ideas to the masses, and, since our society is ruled by "what other people think", everyone accepts these ideas because everyone else does. It's a vicious and confusing cycle that actually has no end unless someone "picks up the phone" and speaks up against "the man", I guess you could say. |

Is it really necessary to include the sounds that Leto makes in between the third verse and the chorus? I mean, they're not part of the actual lyrics. Also, the -- OHHH!! part when the chorus is first played. These aren't part of the original poetry, so there's no reason to include them.
Also, the not being able to change himself idea makes sense to me raw1. :) |

I may be wrong on this, I don't own the CD so I dont have the lyrics book, but where it says "And sheltered on tradition", it sounds like "choke on their tradition". Maybe it's just me. |

It says this life is a dream, that we were created for something much larger than to record the happenings around us, use computers, etc.. With more people opening their minds more, then things are beginning to change, and we begin to wake from this life. The people who think not of the mainstream way of life, but a different way, not exactly anarchy, but not exactly one of strict organization either, are the "angels". "It's hard to dream" It's difficult to believe in anything that isn't exactly mainstream, but if you try hard, then you will think alone, you won't share a mind with everyone else, and might as well do it now, because "it's only a matter of time before we fade out." "The phone is ringing in my head, I'm to scared to pick it up" The call of change is ringing, but we are frightened to break away from mainstream. The turning clock refers to the fact that time is running out for us to save ourselves. "Computers lie" Messages sent by technology are lies to brainwash us and keep us in our dreaming state. Some people may call you crazy (or paranoid) but if you're in the state of mind that they say you are in, then it's because you truly are, at least from your perspective. Something (not necessarily a supreme being) could be watching over us pushing on the movement for change. |
