Great tune. "Don't worry about the curtain" sounds to me like a reference to the wizard of oz and the famous quote "pay no attention to the man behind the curtain", just goes hand in hand with the idea of manipulation and brainwashing that pervades the entire song. |

I think the recurring "left, left, left" could be the protagonist feeling sorry for himself, as it seems that no matter what he does, whether he sleeps around and doesnt become emotionally attached, or whether he gets stuck in a relationship "stuck in the ground", he still ends up getting left and hurt in the end. And so does the girl in the story, which could be why they belong together. |

There are a number of connotations relating to the use of LSD in this song, such as "four hours of vision exchanged for four hours of fright" which applies to an average acid high of eight hours and the mid-point when the drug turns on its user and horrific hallucinations set in. Also, obviously "while the angels stand by I get high as a kite" and the overtones of the song of a ruined life, possibly caused by a drug addiction. Just a thought. |

The final decline of a relationship that was doomed from the beginning. While the two loved each other, they were too different to make it last, and this song is lamenting the end of the relationship and the need to get over and carry on. |

I guess there are a few Danny and Lisa duo's out there, but the pair that SOAD are talking about could be Danny Remeta and Lisa Dunn, a pair of "Natural Born Killers" who went on a murderous rampage during the eighties across the United States. Just a thought. |
