Aimee Mann – Goodbye Caroline Lyrics 15 years ago
At one of her concerts, she did a new song she wrote for the forgotten arm story line, and she talked about when john and caroline were in las vegas, and john disappeared for the night to meet with some people without her, and she knew that he was falling off the wagon

Aimee Mann – Goodbye Caroline Lyrics 15 years ago
This takes place in las vegas, i think. Besides the 'house dealer' lyric, its 'where its lit day for night' the clocks with there faces bowed, and the white cuffs in cigarette smoke

Aimee Mann – Phoenix Lyrics 15 years ago
I think the best line in this song is "I wanted to believe in you and baby i believe it still/but baby i've just had my fill" I think the meaning is pretty straight forward, I wish there was more posted on here picking it apart though. I'm curious what aimee has said about writing it

Dar Williams – The Hudson Lyrics 15 years ago
I think this song is about the Hudson. It holds the life. We thought we did it on our own.

Aimee Mann – Little Bombs Lyrics 15 years ago
I think you are right "while perspective lines converge" is her lyrical way of saying while i gain perspective from life and experiences... but "rows of cars and buses merge" life still goes on. I think this is a song from the caroline point of view, but you are right, it is meant to be interpretable... but probably just in a he she kind of way, given the concept of the album

MGMT – Weekend Wars Lyrics 17 years ago
by the way, why does the world have to end for him to use a gun to kill his lunch? there is absolutly nothing in this song that even remotly talks about the worlds end.

MGMT – Weekend Wars Lyrics 17 years ago
It sounds like hes saying "a beast that doesn't quiver anymore' and it kinda makes more sense. Basically, this song doesnt mean anything cause it doesnt make sense.

Evil S I yes to find a shore,
A beach that doesn't quiver anymore,
Where we could crush some plants to paint my walls,
And I won't try to fight in the weekend wars
Was I? I was to lazy to bathe
Or paint or write or try to make a change.

what the hell does 'evil s i yes to find a shore' mean? "was i? i was too lazy to bathe" what?

also, i think alot of these lyrics could be wrong.

Norah Jones – Lonestar Lyrics 17 years ago
This song is definitly about texas, but it is interpretable. It's definitly not about a boy, but it could be about a boy she misses in a place. The fact that she is refering to 'lonestar'-texas, as something in the nightsky, means that there is some meaning beyond just texas. I agree with you all, she misses texas, but its not dark in new york city compared to anywhere in texas, so there is clearly something else going on. Its such a short song that A) we cant guess what she means and B) it can mean whatever we want and be correct. for me, it reminds me of a long distance relationship i had with someone in dallas when i was living in philadelphia. When you analyze this song, keep in mind that texas means ALOT to people that are from there, and im sorry bout my spelling

Regina Spektor – Düsseldorf Lyrics 17 years ago
I think she is talking about how she remembers her various travels in europe based on random experiences and metaphors... Its a good way of looking at it/telling a story... her experiences were probably really boring if she wrote a story about all of them.

Most people travel experiences are mostly the same, and i love how she makes her trips seem so random and airy

Cansei de Ser Sexy – Meeting Paris Hilton Lyrics 17 years ago
"i went to the beach...she came to me and said" or "i went to the bitch... she [the bitch] came to me and said" the beach one actually makes more sense... but its not like any CSS songs make sense

Death Cab for Cutie – Brothers on a Hotel Bed Lyrics 19 years ago
I dont know what it means. Its definitly good, and for some reason i had it in my head when my cab driver was going 90 miles an hour on the way to ezeiza airport... most likly the line about not being able to break for the concrete. When i first heard the song, i thought he was saying "my brother is on a hotel bed" i remember thinking thats interesting. Its funny, cause the emotion of the song didnt change for me when i learned the real lyrics. the lyrics are only a part of what makes a song so special

Death Cab for Cutie – Different Names for the Same Thing Lyrics 19 years ago
people take things too seriously. not every song on a cd can be fantastic. this is a nice interlud, and its good that i can listen to plans without having to skip, which you need to do if they are trying to hard to make every song amazing

Death Cab for Cutie – Summer Skin Lyrics 19 years ago
I remember labor day this year, and i remember listening to this song. I think we use holidays as landmarks, or hills that keep the landscape from going on forever. We can build up the events in our lives around these landmarks, because there is little else to build them up around.

This labor day i was going through a rough time with the person im dating. Nothing noteworthy happened on labor day, but the fact that labor day came and went made me think, things were better in the spring then they are now. Maybe we werent ment to love this fall.

Death Cab for Cutie – I Will Follow You Into the Dark Lyrics 19 years ago
This song i listened to until i got sick of it on a recent trip to guadalajara with someone i love... It always makes me think of that, to the point where i turn it off when it comes on so when i choose, and maybe in 20 years it still makes me think of being there with him.

The whole catholic school thing, I think it was just his way of saying, i dont know, that he didnt like the ideas of love that he was taught, and found his own, or maybe.

I agree with those who say this song isnt so much about death as it is loving someone to death... that is being willing to be withsomeone until they die.

Dar Williams – In Love But Not At Peace Lyrics 20 years ago
I dont think this song points out either way what kind of love she is in. I don't really know of many loves that involve peace, except for the loves that take years to get to, the kind no one really writes songs about, and this song seems like something i would write after being with someone for a year or so... anyway. This song points out more key things i feel when i'm in love. "i live with the fear that my spirit will be broken' and "'cause we know that we're born and we're dying alone" because when it comes right down to it, we will all die alone... death is very much an experience for an individual, not a couple (grief, of course, is not)

Dar Williams – Spring Street Lyrics 20 years ago
Does anyone know which spring street she means, because i live on spring street in philly, but i know there are others. This song means alot to me, It was my favorite song during the time a few years ago when i was at a sort of golden age with the love of my life (who passed away soon after).

Dar Williams – The Ocean Lyrics 20 years ago
I wish people didn't just look into dars songs as if she wrote them to represent her bisexuality. I also think "its where we came from, you know, and sometimes i just want to go back" is a clear sign that sometimes he wishes he died. It seems like in this song, she maybe went to visit someone who lives in the ocean who was depressed, and was 'drawn to the ocean', but finds that its not the wonderful thing she thought it was. I find it interesting, that during the different periods of the song, when her opinion on the ocean is rattled, she still thinks that the town and whoever she is singing about is "the welcoming back from the ocean". I don't know if anything i thought about this song is really what she was writing about, but i think dar isn't so shallow as to write a song about the ocean to allude to her bisexuality. But clearly this song is symbolic somehow.

Dar Williams – Calling the Moon Lyrics 20 years ago
I actually really like this song, and I know not many people do because, of course, i am the only one to comment on it, but i really think its pretty, and often i think about it when i walk alone at night.

Dar Williams – Iowa (Traveling III) Lyrics 20 years ago
I think this song is perfect. There is never the right time to tell you that i love you, but i wish there was; I fear falling in love with you because it scares me to much to think of how hard and far i could fall for you, and the worst thing i can dream about is you with someone else, not thinking about me. Looking back at my life, and all the romance and would be romance, and men i have loved, those words pretty much sum up them all.
