My mum used to listen to Enya when I was really small, like 3 and 4 years old! So I've always liked Enya, it reminds me of being really happy as a small girl. This was my favourite song and I used to dance round my living room to it! But now I'm older and I've begun to fully appreciate the beauty of Enya's music, its amazing! I think part of the beauty of her music is that the songs dont have a specific meaning, they all mean different things to different people. But, no matter what the songs mean, the music is serene, peaceful and always makes me happy! |

I agree with Dawkins. To me the song perfectly describes so many nights I sat in bed with my boyfriend crying over everything that was going on at the time. Being pregnant is so scary and some nights its impossible to sleep. The lines 'please close your eyes woman please get some sleep and know that if i knew all of the answers i would not hold them from you' Are exactly what my boyfriend used to say to calm me down when I was crying. Its definatly about waiting for your baby to be born and all the worries that come with it. Absolutely bloody beautiful song! |

Why does it have to be about rape? It can be about any sort of abuse, whether its rape, hitting someone or simply shouting at someone. All of those things completely break your soul. Its not about any specific thing, its just about a girl that he knows who has been through extream psychological and physical abuse at the hands of some other guy and what he wants to do to this guy as a result of it. If you relate to it through rape then thats fine, but it doesn't mean that that's what its definatly about! Different people relate to it through different things because of different experiences. |

I relate to this song because of my dad and my last boyfriend, both were abusive. This song captures every emotion I felt on the night my dad almost put me in hospital, the lines " Father's a name you haven't earned yet You're just a child with a temper" are the most prominent, I dont understand how anyone could hit someone they love. There's so much anger in this song, but its written from a kids point of view and a kid wouldnt have the power or the authority to do anything about whats going on. And I spose that's where the anger comes from, theres nothing you can do to stop it. Everyone whos gone through an experience like this will relate to this song, its amazing on so many levels because it manage to capture such pure emotion in such a simple way. |

To me this song is about a relationship that he's looking back on. He realises it wasn't the healthiest of relationships and they werent right for each other but he still loves her and still feels he cant go on without her because she was such a big part of his life for such a long time? I could be wrong. I relate that to my own experience with my last boyfriend. We really loved each other but we werent right for each other and the relationship just got so messy and complicated that it was just best to end it, I still love him and I know I'll never love someone the way I loved him and I'll never have such a deep connection with anyone else but sometimes things just dont work out. |

I can relate to this song through my relatonship with my last boyfriend. He controlled me in almost every aspect of my life and towards the end became quite violent. This was all quite heavy considering we're only 18! I think this song is about an abusive relationship and the lines "'Cause I was born to destroy you I am growing by the hour I'm getting strong in every way" Is about fighting back against the opression and restriction you feel and ending the relationship. To "Destroy" the other person all you have to do is take away their power over you, and then what have they got? Nothing but guilt about what they've done and the empty space where you used to be. |

The song was written just after 9/11 but it isnt specifically about that, its about how quickly people go back to their everyday lives after something huge happens, it can be related to anything, someone dying, a huge incident like 9/11 or just the end of the relationship cause the line "the sky is falling and no one knows" Can be taken in different ways, either that YOUR whole world is collapsing around you and no one else notices because they've got their own problems. or The whole world is in a mess and no one pays any attention because 'its just one of those things' or 'its not their problem' Be open minded, dont try and make this song about any specific thing and then it will make a lot more sense. |

For me, this song can be looked at in two ways, the first being that you can love someone and they can help you through difficult times in your life, which is the nice one. But the one I find more likely (sorry to disagree with everyone!) is that its about someone dragging you down. "I know that I'll never be alone you will never let me go you are my anchor hold my hand while I'm sinking in the sand" Seems abit too dark to be based on feelings of love and wanting to help someone, would you really want and anchor if you were sinking in sand....the sand being a metaphor for sadness and overwhelming emotion? |

This is a beautiful song and to me it seems like he's singing about a past relationship that obviously meant alot to him but he's not quite sure why it ended. The second verse that everone is so puzzled about could be about a break down in communication or trust between them, meanin that a 'wall' has come between them and he's hoping it will fall, the 'poster of berlin' is just an example of how even the biggest of walls can fall? The end of the song seems to be about moving on from the realationship and he's not sure how to do it with out her, linking the lines "If I had the chance to start again Then you would be the one I'd come and find" and "I can't calculate How to start again" |
