I was wondering what somebody's starlight was, you know 'chasing your starlight' and you know how star's light is it's energy, I was thinking someone's starlight could be their uhhh sort of their soul, cause I found that soul is repeated a lot in the songs, (take a bow, smbh and invincible) and I dunno if I think this but your sould could make you what you are. I guess it does, like you personality.
Anyways I like the bit where it says 'all the souls that would die just to feel alive' cause when die is sung it has a note from the guitar or something and it just stands out ^^ |

Well I'm gonna take the simple meaning 'cause that's what I think it's about. He's being asked to describe something that he doesn't know and the fact that he doesn't know is annoying him or more serious than that. The slow pace of the song makes it sound like it's gradually eating away at him inside and the words unwinding and scraping create a sense of immedicacy like it's something happening to him now.
but the bit I love best is the guitar solo 'cause this is another way the matt is symbolising his annoyance(don't think that's a word) but when the guitar plays it's basically like a moaning, seeing if anyone will hear it maybe.
the thing i find clever with this song is that matt doesn't just use words to convey his meaning, whether it be what i just said or something completely different. he can use the music, his guitar, the pace, the volume and the list goes on lol. i don't know many other artisits who can do that and i'm not just saying that to make them look great they really do deserve the compliment lol. |

I see how Amy Lee being a ghost in the video fits in with the song.
But I wanted to ask if anyone else thought that the video was similar to Christina Aguilera's 'The Voice Within'. Because there's the whole black and white theme, and the white dress walking through an empty town sorta thing. They even have the same hairstyle o.O.
I'm not saying that the songs have anything common but I was just wondering if anyone else thought the video's did.
Or is there some sort of friendship between the two artisits that I don't know about and they did this on purpose o.O
And I'm sorry if anyone has already commmented on this before and I'm making myself look stupid but I really didn't want to read 13 pages of comments.
I don't usually listen to any of Chrisitna's songs 'cause I basically don't like them (thought I'd add that incase someone has a rant at me for listening to pop when I'm on a rock type band thread) but 'Voice Within' is a pretty song and it isn't filled with the 'sexy type' of lyrics Chrsitina does like 'Dirtty'.
Also I think that 'Voice Within' was for a disney video, can't remember which one tho, so I think that's where FinchFever got his/her idea from. |

Btw you know the bit does that mean:
-Where's there is a truth inbetween the lies that's where I'll be as if saying I'll always be where the truth is?
-Or where there's truth and lies I'll be there as if saying they might lie sometimes too.
I think it might be the last one 'cause they have seperated the two lines with but then again maybe that was just to keep in with the whole structure of the song.
I dunno, I was just wondering if anyone else had an opinion? ^_^ |

Does 'all that junk inside your trunk' refer to her ass or does it mean like when she sings the first verse all the stuff that the guys buy her inside her like car 'trunk'. 'Cause later in the song he says about all that ass inside those jeans so wouldn't that be the same thing. Or am I being stupid lol

I think that even though so many people agree that this is a Green Day serious attempt to have a bash at politics I don't. This is just a song to open up their albulm and introduce you into the story. Even though there is talk about politics in the lyrics I don't think it's meant to be as serious as everyone makes it out to be in this thread. Plus I don't think anyone would be stupid enough to have a complaint at media their involved in so this is probaly intentional, to get everyone talking about it, and it worked 'cause a majority of people have an opionion on this song.
Also, maybe I agree that Green Day's older stuff was better than the newer stuff but Green Day is a band where you can't say all their music sounds the same. Most of the albulms they have released have a different style on them and their newer stuff is just that, different. If they realise that this type isn't too good then maybe they'll change it slightly. But at least they experiment with their music instead of being the same all the time. |

I think it could be about being in a really good relationship but the part where she says < I know, oh yes, I know that we can’t be together but, I just like to dream> could maybe be the fact that they have a long distance between them and can't see each ther for while. That's just a suggestion but I also agree with chelsea12's ideas too. ^^ |
