Stars – Liar Lyrics 19 years ago
Christ, this song is probably the scariest song Stars have done. I don't know what it's about exactly, as I've never heard any of the band members comment on it. But, knowing Stars, they've probably derived it from a movie.

Buuuuut, the idea I've got is that there is basically just the progtaganist who is pretty messed up in the head.

He lives a partying-kinda life, and the beginning of the song suggests that he warned a girl of the dangers of serious drug-use and she ends up in a critical condition. He rapes her in this state and then, in his "mentally-messed-up" state he claims it was done by someone nearly identical to him.

*correction...it goes "a kid I blew in central park"*

The progtaganist is a bi-sexual too. A while ago, he met and blew a younger boy. And now he meets him again in a local cafe. The kid recounts tales of his childhood, and the progtaganist murders and rapes him. Once again, he claims it was done by his double.

And finally, the progtaganist comes to the realization that what he is doing to these people is just totally fucked up and he leaves on a boat for Alta Mesa junction. He has a friend there that might be able to help him come back to reality and humanity.

Dido – Stoned Lyrics 20 years ago
I never would have though Dido would ever write songs set in this kind of lifestyle...its a big mistake I think, I mean she drew in a particular crowd from his first album and taking the songs in this direction isn't a good move.

Getting stoned and having pointless sex with some boy and trying to mold that into a love song is an awful idea...I'm glad I never bought her second album.

Dido – Here With Me Lyrics 20 years ago
Fantastic song, I'm really amazed by her ability to convey messages through songs so successfully, and show powerful emotion, and to top it off, she wrote, sang and performed all of the songs...not something you usually get from emotion/pop singers.

I only just bought the album today, and I haven't taken it out of the discman yet!! Highly recommended!!

Anyway, the song is obviously about a loved one (not neccesarily a partner) leaving for an unknown reason (she's left those two things upto you) and just ceasing to function without them. Sounds simple, but she sings it very powerfully, and I can't think of any other artist who's conveyed the lyrics so closely to the music and succeeded.

Another thing, I don't usually venture into this genre of music, I listen to Muse, Radiohead, Coldplay, Wilco, South, Doves, Badly Drawn Boy and Frou Frou. But this really is something else...

Radiohead – Pyramid Song Lyrics 20 years ago
This song is about suicide, whilst on ecstacy and while he is drowning (?) in the river he halluncinates and sees his life before his eyes. He dies, and "goes to heaven in a little row boat" which is referring to the river somehow...or just his idea of what happens when we die.

Or, perhaps he didn't die at all, because it never says that he does? It could be that he was seeing his life before his eyes due to the esctasy, and the row boat could mean nearly anything, maybe its symbolising that he is heading towards a better life, maybe?

Him dying makes more sense, but it is certainly more uplifting with the second idea in mind. The video clip completely supports the first one though...so I guess that is the meaning.

Such beautiful arrangments in this song, though!! And the time signature is brilliant and refreshing too!!

Muse – Hyper Chondriac Music Lyrics 20 years ago
This song is almost Matt Bellamy saying sorry for Hyper-Music, and i'm pretty sure he once said that it was a "stupid song". This really links together with what 'fishy' said up the top.

Slide guitar is brilliant in this...and it has that "Con-science" feel to it, where the song starts off simple with just an acoustic guitar and some atmospheric slide guitar doodling in the background but builds up in power and has a huge clashing climax at the end with a massive solo and some sampling doodling again. Fantastic!!

Muse – Space Dementia Lyrics 20 years ago
Great song!! Has nothing to do with drugs what-so-ever, though...but was Muse ever affiliated with drugs? I heard they smoked pot and stuff as teenagers, but that was it...

By the way, at the beginning of the song it is: "H8 is the one for me", not height. Someone else said this at some point here, and they're right.

Muse – Citizen Erased Lyrics 20 years ago
I completely agree with what xdeadstarx said, it really makes sense that it was about a friend of Bellamy's who was raped.

The line: "the truth's unwinding/scraping away at my mind/please stop asking me to describe" really gives that away, along with the rest of the song, which is a bit too complicated for analysis, I think.

That lyric obviously is referring to the fact that the woman was raped being heard by everyone, and she is being haunted by it because everyone is asking her about it, and asking her to tell them exactly what happened. And finally, her mind is deteriorating because of this.

Pretty scary meaning behind a brilliant song, no?

I really don't agree with emokid86's idea of the song, its does fit in with the lyrics, but its not like Muse to write such an unbelievably depressing lyric. I mean, just think about it, would Matt Bellamy say that the world is pretty much a bleak, life-sucking vacuum? No way!!

I like xdeadstarx's one far better, its just so much nicer, thinking that Matt Bellamy wrote it to help a friend who's going through something awful, and it would probably allow other people to relate to the song more. And not for the wrong reasons...such as the whole world is dark and soulless.

Nice one xdeadstarx!!

Wilco – War On War Lyrics 20 years ago
Jeff Tweedy and the band wrote YHF before sept. 11, so apparantly "War On War" has no connection the War On Terrorism. Have a listen to the recording of them at The World Carfe. He mentions all this during the interview!!

Anyway, I really have no clue what he's referring to in this song, with all that in mind...
