| Zao – How Are The Weak Free Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| yes this is about criminals and the judicial system, "they will hunt again with years to plan" i mean pretty obvious criminals in their cells planning what they will do when they get out i mean like they say prison is a school for criminals you come in an amateur you come out a professional, very well done song, very foreboding and reluctant sound when he says "free the wolf from its cage...etc" i dig it, been listening to zao since i was a kid, i cant wait for awake? to come out they need to post a song or something im dying in anticipation! | |
| Bright Eyes – If the Brakeman Turns My Way Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
it tells the story of the narrator (conor) trying to find his way in life. In the beginning the song talks about how the protagonist is scared of his future and is afraid that he will never find his way “When panic grips your body and your heart is a hummingbird Raven thoughts blacken your mind until you're breathing in reverse.” and even though all of his friends tell him that he will be fine it makes him more nervous and doubtful. “All your friends and sedatives mean well but make it worse, every reassurance just magnifies the doubt” The narrator talks about how over time he has lost his conscience, and his identity Got a cricket for a conscience always looks the other way” He has become irritable and petty, he is trying to find and enjoy the finer things in life but his loved ones get in the way. He discovers that he has to find his place, he has to find who he really is but until then he just has to lay low and relax. “tried to listen to the river but you couldn't shut your mouth, better take a little time to level out.” The narrator says that it was right with his soul that he begins his quest to find himself. He describes the “brakeman” who represents God, the person who ultimately controls his life. The brakeman also refers to his search for meaning in life and that he is the train forever traveling town the tracks trying to find his way, waiting for the “brakeman” to come his way and resolve his life so he can finally enjoy it. |

| Deftones – Change (In the House of Flies) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Its about a girl that was so inoccent and she only belonged to him but he corrupted her (tearing of her wings) and she slowly became distant. even though he was bitter he realizes it was his fault in the first place. | |
| AFI – Summer Shudder Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
well i actually have an experience that this song reminds me of. my freshmen year there was this girl that i met and got to know better and better and we sort of "fell in love" in a sense, but it was late in track season we were running through the park and she begain to cry; she cried so bitterly and she began to unload all the things that had been building up inside of her. it began to rain as she continued to rant, she told me that if she were to die no one would care. i said "I would care". she said "you would be the only one" i put my arm around her and whispered in her ear "i love you" she never returned the favor. in fact she didnt talk to me for weeks after that. it was kind of a dark time. we never really talked beyond an awkward "hi" blah but thats what this song reminds me of |

| Zao – The Race Of Standing Still Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| i believe this song is about life and how life is pointed towards a destination a race of standing still, i think it talks about good friends that you have along the way that you spend as much time as you can with but they still have a different outlook on life and a different personality and when you die or move away they will be like ghosts of you because you have left a part of you with them life is a race towards death some people are scared some people are at peace (possibly because of their religeon) no matter what your doing you are in a race, a race to the end | |
| Bright Eyes – Poison Oak Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| i live in the omaha area where conor lives and started i have seen him a few times this song is about his cousin Ian McElroy who was conors best friend as a child, from what i understand he had a slight sexual confusion which the midwest is a terrible place for people of different orientations it is hugely conservitive so his cousin got fed up with dealing with the midwest and left to the coast the yellow bird reference refers to times in the mining industry yellow birds would be sent to warn miners of danger beautiful song its mt favorite | |
| Neil Young – Heart Of Gold Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Neil speaks about his search for a person that loves him back not just with the love that will leave him in the morning but the love that will stay with him for a lifetime and as the song progresses he realizes how hard it is to find this person and that he grows older in his search and the meloncoly tune show that hes losing hope but he keeps searching for a heart of gold someone he can love live with and give love to without feeling that the person is just in it for money or fame someone genuine i think whether you have found this person or you are still looking we all feel like this at one time and maybe our whole lives | |
| Zao – Kingdom Of Thieves Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I dont believe he is, but you are correct it is about the europeans coming to the new land, it is about manifest destiny the europeans thought that they were entitled to the land by god so they horded and killed many of the native americans destroying familys bringing disease and guns (The fruit of the holy voyage is sour and cursed)it was a disgusting and horrible part of history the worst part is that many people think it was the right thing to do the religous conservatives say things like "it was gods will that these people died because they would not have converted and god wanted a place for his followers" and this is dans reply to that | |

| Bright Eyes – When the President Talks to God Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
When the President talks to God, does he ever think that maybe he's not? That that voice is just inside his head, when he kneels next to the presidential bed? Does he ever smell his own bullshit? When the President talks to God? I doubt it...I doubt it. wow i love it hahaha bush is a joke.. i guess the fact that he got C's in college and hes in the white house proves our "republic" doesnt work and we have more of a Monarchy than anything else and people treat Bush more lk a king than a president i mean the guys tapping in on innocent people and people r lk "well the president should have the right too" and act lk its no big deal how disgusting im apalled. BUSH SUCKS! ~Jonny |

| Bright Eyes – Hit the Switch Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
this is definitly my song i feel the same way. cause there's a switch that gets hit &it all stops making sense. &in the middle of drinks, maybe the 5th or the 6th, i'm completely alone at a table of friends. i feel nothing for them. i feel nothing. nothing. conor eplains how when he drinks he doesnt feel alone and the emptyness that hes felt for so long is blocked for a little bit that is exactly how i feel life is so confusing. |

"Chaching" dorthy enters oz.....great song....the voices towards the end originated when the members of pink floys interviewed people including paul mcartny and his wife tho neither of them are on the album they asked questions like : when was the last time u were in a fight? and when u were in this fight were u in the right? so at the end of the song u hear all the peoples replies including paul mcartnys and the wings bassist who saids "dont know i was really drunk at the time" I was certanly in the right ~Jonny |

| Pink Floyd – Welcome to the Machine Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
Its about the government, society and parents trying to make us conform and create us like we are the product of a machine alot of parental reference tho like " Welcome, my son, welcome to the machine. Where have you been? It's alright, we know where you've been." also "Welcome, my son, welcome to the machine. What did you dream? It's alright, we told you what to dream." also its showing how the media is also the machine and it creates what the want rockers to be like example: "You bought a guitar to punish your ma, and you didn't like school, and you know you're nobody's fool, so welcome to the machine." because thats a stereo type that the media and fans like also : "You dreamed of a big star, he played a mean guitar, he always ate in the Steak Bar, he loved to drive in his Jaguar. So welcome to the machine." this song is very complex and subliminal it means many things but it all leads to one thing THe MAN IS THE MACHINE AND NO MATTER WHO YOU ARE THE MACHINE WILL TRY TO GET YOU. ~Jonny |

| Bright Eyes – Bowl of Oranges Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
and I came upon a doctor who appeared in quite poor health I said, "There's nothing I can do for you, you can't do for yourself" He said, "Oh yes you can, just hold my hand, I think that that would help" So i sat with him a while and i asked him how he felt he said, "I think I'm cured, no in fact I'm sure of it thank you stranger... for your theraputic smile." So that's how I learned the lesson that everyone's alone And your eyes must do some raining if you're ever gonna grow absolutely beautifu! this song is definitely my favorite by conor oberst hes a genius his lyrics just kepp getting better and better. ~jonnyl |

| David Bowie – Ziggy Stardust Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Ziggy Stardust actually was quite a lot of things, but seemingly Bowie was borrowing most of all from a 2nd rate rocker Vince Taylor, who found his market niche as “the French Elvis”. The young Bowie, meeting Taylor in London in 1966, was charmed by the latter’s freaky behaviour[iv]: “He used to carry maps of Europe around with him, and I remember very distinctly him opening a map out on Charing Cross Road, outside the tube station, putting it on the pavement and kneeling down with a magnifying glass. I got down there with him, and he was pointing out all the sites where UFOs were going to be landing over the next few months. He had a firm conviction that there was a very strong connection between himself, aliens and Jesus Christ." Taylor’s perception of reality tended to get lost, ever more frequently. The stress of his vigorously active life, precariously balancing on the verge of clinical insanity was compounded with wine, speed and LSD. His performances in France were source of legends, until he, as expressed by Bowie, “came out on stage in white robes and said that the whole thing about rock had been a lie, that in fact he was Jesus Christ - and it was the end of Vince, his career and everything else. It was this story which really became one of the essential elements of Ziggy and his world-view.” Whereas the messianic guitar hero Ziggy Stardust, intercommunicating with the Great Beyond, was an excellent candidate to parody the clichéd tragic star myths of the end 60s. The best examples are evidently Jim Morrisson, Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix. Those interested in rock may remember, in connection with this also Pink Floyd’s Syd Barrett and Fleetwood Mac’s Peter Green, the latter a rock player acting as a lesser calibre messiah, before long making his eclipse from the stage, due to a worsening mental condition. | |

| Simon and Garfunkel – El Cóndor Pasa (If I Could) Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| the line i'd rather be a hammer than a nail is a metiphor for human beings the hammer represents the authotity such as the goverment the president etc... the nails represent us the people and the authority decides what we do what laws we have to obey etc... just as the hammer decides where the nails go and drives them at its will and the nails have no say or choice in this | |
| The Beatles – I Am the Walrus Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| alright this song might sound like john wrote it during an acid trip but no this song is full of hidden meanings before the beatles let out the album sgt peppers..... there was a conspiracey which was that john lennon had killed paul mcartney by sending him driving drunk and paul mcartney crashed and died and at the time the goverment was scared about what the beatles had said in the album revolver with songs like taxman etc and didnt like the influence they were having on the generation that listened to them which happened to be the baby boomers so there was high tension so the theory was once that mcartney was found dead the goverment had his body hauled off and disposed of its a long complicated theory but in the song i am the walrus there is a bunch of symbolic eliments for example in the song "Sitting on a cornflake - waiting for the van to come." the corn flake represenst the crashed car paul is sitting dead in the car waiting for his ambulence that will never come" even the chorus " i am the warus" john is posing as paul and the walrus in noregion symbol of death there are other things in this song too these are just the obvious ones other songs include strawberry feilds forever if u listen untill the very end and turn it all the way up u can hear John say "i buried paul" A day in the lige discribes the accident itself in the beginning of the song paul is the man that made the grave look into this conspiracey on the web just put somthing in like "paul is dead" and youll probably find alot of info on it | |
