This song is so beautiful. To me the lyrics are both uplifting and saddening at the same time. For one, I feel encouraged to do everything I can now in the present to help everyone so that I don't look back in the past and wish "only if." However, at the same time I am exactly like the narrator in the fact that I constantly look back on the past thinking about how different things could have been. The grunge movement could have lasted longer into my teens, the world could have experienced so much less pain and heartache, and our savior could have lived a longer life full of inspiration and miracles. |

visualpro- that is exactly how i think of it too... This is definitely one of my favorite songs by snow patrol, i love the rock feel to it. Also, you can't forget the fabulous, yes i just said fabulous, reference to sufjan stevens. That alone made me fall in love with this song and i know this sounds lame but every time i hear that line it makes me feel special because sufjan stevens is one of my favorite artists and chicago is my favorite song by him. |

I picked up this album a couple of days before I went on vacation and didn't have enough time to comment on it, I figured by the time I came back there would be at least about 50 comments on here already since this is an amazing song, i guess i overestimated... anyway this is my absolute favorite song on the album. I've listening to it a bunch of times already but i still don't quite know what it means... i haven't just sat down and analyzed it yet but what ckhawa and adored_pumpkinhead said seams right on track. I too love the melody
and yes, my brother and I got a kick out of the Billy Corgan: ALL THE REST hahha |

I'm just adding a little extension to what i wrote above because i thought this line was important. Okay, when he says "we go underground, cuz there's emptiness above"- i think he means how everything in the world seems so superficial and unfulfilled so he escapes it all by going underground with only the ones who truly love him. |

I think this song is talking about how in society it seems like there's always a price tag on everything, and they're pointing out that it shouldn't be this way even know it is. In the beginning they're saying "buy me love for forty dollars" and "I got love for sale, come on get some before it gets stale"- I think this kind of poking fun at advertisements, and how they are always trying to get you to buy things before they go out of style and such. But then they say that "love is all you need, and all you need is love"- now I think this is how they truly feel, not how society feels. I guess they're just trying to say that it seems like the only thing in this world that you can get for free is love- which in the long run is the only thing that is important. |

i love this song, it is my absolute favorite from the album i dont know why i havent commented on it earlier. I was told by my brother that this was a wedding proposal song (but it was already pretty obvious by the lyrics). This song is so beautiful, wow i want this to be my wedding song even though that probably wont be for another ten years or so.

I love this song, i cant decide which is my favorite, wasteland or boston. Oh well, guess it doesnt matter either way. I really like how the song starts off softly and kind of slow, then it gets louder and more powerful, just to become soft again and then to cresendo into where the lead singer screams WASTELAND! with such passion. The number one thing that i base a song on is by how passionate the singer seems to be about his music, and wow, this is pure passion. Great song.

I saw Garden State and loved all the music that went along with it so immediatly the day after i watched the movie i went out to the store and bought the soundtrack. Wow the whole cd is so good, it is one of those cd's that you pop in and just listen to the whole thing, there are no annoying songs to skip over or anything. The meaning of this song I think at least, is what iamtheevestar said.

I can't believe I'm the first one to comment on this song. Jeeze...people need to start listening to Devin Townsend. This song sounds pretty, I love it! I think the song could possibly be about two people who decide to split up but then he realizes that he wants to stay with her... she is the one for him. So now he is trying to get back together but their lives are very different. I could be really really wrong about this. Its just what I thought about when I heard the song. |

i think this song is about a screwed up old relationship that he was involved in, i think she was getting everything out of the relationship and he was getting nothing, so when they broke up he wanted nothing to do with her because he is now finally free and able to make his choices, and he now sees thing in a different perspective than he used to
this is an awesome band- i dont know why they are so unknown but im sure that will change soon i love their songs they have so much emotion in them...and you can tell that this band is actually smart they dont always have to use simple words. |
