| Talking Heads – And She Was Lyrics

yeah definitley about yoohoo factory/acid. if you're still skeptical then check out david byrne live at union chapel where he explains it to the audience before playing it. the whole concert is very amazing, featuring his solo stuff as well as talking heads material. when he plays the talking heads stuff they all have a kind of more acoustic, world music spin to them, which works very nicely and adds a little variety to the old favorites. |

| David Byrne – U.B. Jesus Lyrics

I love this song. David Byrne is an incredible musician. I may be completely wrong, but to me this song is about religious fanatics that end up judging everyone they meet because they don't "uphold strong christian values" (yes i have heard that said) and going against what their religion truly stands for. the part of the song that says
"Don't pity me
Have pity on yourself
You might know Jesus but you'll all join in hell,"
is the part that really reinforces my interpretation in my mind. |

| Jeff Buckley – Hallelujah (Leonard Cohen cover) Lyrics
| 20 years ago

When I think about this song i don't necessarily think of a love song, because i think it goes so much deeper than that. when i think of love songs i think of happy, care-free bullshit. this song is the exact opposite, which is why it is hard for me to regard it as a love song. to me the song is referring to all the tragedies and depressing moments of love. i especially like the verse that says
"Well there was a time when you let me know
What's really going on below
But now you never show that to me do you
But remember when i moved in you
And the holy dove was moving too
And every breath we drew was hallelujah"
To me that verse represents something amazing that was once shared, in this instance, sex, but it is over and it is only a memory that brings back a plethora of painful emotions. that's my perspective |

The lyrics to this were written by Tom Marshall about being being pressured into marriage. He has said that "sparkle" is one of the only songs written about his wife that she knows is about her. When he sent Trey the lyrics, Trey decided to make the song really happy because of how sad the lyrics were. I LOVE this song |

this is a great song. Tom marshall wrote it and then the music was added to it later. Tom Marshall is a good friend of trey's who has either written or co-written the lyrics for most of phish's songs. |

| Phish – The Divided Sky Lyrics

"Divided Sky" has something to do with the Gamehendge mythology, which includes such other songs as, "the man who stepped into yesterday" and "colonel Forbin's Ascent." The chant at the beginning of the song is part of an ancient ritual from the pre-wilson years in Gamehendge. there's a story that goes with it, something about three chosen individuals that eat a special root which grows at the base of a mountain in the middle of the forest. This makes sense due to the fact that the idea for the divided sky was concieved during a night of mushroom tripping. after eating the root, the three individuals go into a huge field after sundown. here they climb onto an enormous black rhombus and sing to the gods. A very creative idea. i absolutely love this song the guitar and keyboards especially. phish may well be my favorite band of all time. |

Actually the song was written by Steve Pollak, A.K.A the Dude of Life, but yes it was inspired by a man with cancer at a dead show, and his brother did have cancer at the time. |

why are there so many straight and narrow assholes that don't even listen to airplane on this message board. stop putting down drugs and writing in your dumb song interpretations. Grace slick says in her autobiography what the song is about, and i wrote about that in the post above this one. it's not just about some poor little girl on acid. jesus |

This song is about the fact that the parents of the hippie generation were all putting down acid and grass and other psychedelics while drinking shitloads and taking valium and stuff. it's not only about tripping. |

This song is fucking amazing. YES there are a multitude of versions and chances are that many people who commented on this song all heard different versions. Some of it sounds like it was fucking written for apocalypse now... it blows my mind how incredible it is... the part about the wilderness of pain where all the children are insane. The song is full of dark and beautiful imagery. MIND BLOWING |

wow... transatlanticism is a dangerous cd.
a couple weeks ago i was feeling depressed about everything in my life and so i began to listen to death cab, particularly transatlanticism. i listened to this cd only for an entire week... after listening to primarily hippie/jam bands for so long this really brought me down, and i had to go cold turkey from death cab.
luckily i feel much better now |

come on guys... number 1, there is nothing wrong with a joint. some younger kids that get into it can let it lead them down a bad path, but that is because they do not know how to deal with it. marijuana never hurt anyone that had sense. number 2, what's with the disrespect to hippies? first of all, if you hate hippies, why would you be on a message board for a band that is a hippie icon?! true hippies don't cause any harm to anyone. i do not consider myself to be a hippie, although i wear birkenstocks, smoke weed, am a pacifist, believe in karma and other buddhist beliefs, listen to phish, the dead, etc. and third, just chill out guys... and sunshine day dream (i love the song btw) if people give you shit, don't worry about it... you are true to yourself and that is what matters. i am probably about the same age as you and i know what you mean, although it doesn't really happen to me because people know i don't care what they think about my beliefs... i know that if people want to disrespect me because i have ideas of pacifism and unity, then they are probably closed-minded and ignorant and i would not like to talk to them anyways. just tell them to mellow out next time they talk shit to you.
peace |
