A Flock of Seagulls – You Can Run Lyrics 4 months ago
I think it's about a parent and a child. A teen wants to run away, and the parent is trying to thwart that.

Depeche Mode – Something To Do Lyrics 5 months ago
No, it's about a fellow asking a lady for a date, and the lady has a job (No,she isn't a prossie) and her dress has grease stains in it from getting it caught in the car door on her way to/from work

Depeche Mode – Something To Do Lyrics 5 months ago
@[raid357:26848] It's NOT about SEX, for crying in Manhattan! It's about a young gentleman asking a young lady for A DATE. Just a DATE!

Danielle Dax – Here Come the Harvest Buns Lyrics 5 months ago
Nothing to do with baked goods and everything to do with being preggers

Harvest BUNS - BUN in the oven (pregnancy)
BELLYFUL - Baby in utero; a mom-to-be's round figure
ROUND BUM-BUM, FLESH GUN-GUN - Self-explanatory!
SICK AS A PIG WHEN MORNING COMES - Morning sickness
A KNEE IN THE PLACE WHERE THE HERO ROAMED - Fetal movement in the mother. Baby is pushing his knee into the mother's uterus. The hero roaming refers to the one sperm that caused the pregnancy
CLIPPED IN ROWS, THEY'RE DOMINOES may refer to the nesting instinct pregnant moms get, where they tidy everything up and put things in order

Godley & Creme – Snack Attack Lyrics 7 months ago
An amply-contoured gentleman who has had a jaw-wiring procedure at the request of his family is frenzied at having to deny himself his favorite delicacies and delights

Tears for Fears – Everybody Wants to Rule the World Lyrics 8 months ago
I think it may be a song about becoming an adult. "Welcome to your life. There's no turning back." High school and college are behind you. You're a grownup now. "Nothing ever lasts forever." Youth is fleeting. Turn around, and you're a grownup. Everybody wants to rule the world = quest for status, wealth and power

@[force263:25725] Oh, come on. This tune is NOT about washing your "lowers"

submissions
Michael Franks – Popsicle Toes Lyrics 8 months ago
Popsicle toes = COLD FEET, which is slang for being nervous about something (usually sex or commitment). The narrator wants to help his sweetheart get over her nervousness about either having sex with him, committing to him, or both

Foster the People – Pumped Up Kicks Lyrics 8 months ago
This catchy tune is about a school shooting and the "troubled teen" who instigates it.

Robert is a young desperado who fancies himself a total bad@$$.

The "box of fun things" is the gun, ammo, maybe some girlie magazines and porno videos -- stuff parents would hide from a teen. the line "I don't even know what" means that the only items in the box that young Robert gives two spits about is the gun and the ammo.

"Daddy works a long day. He's coming home late, he's coming home late" -- Boo-hoo, poor ickle Bobby feels uncared-for.
The "surprise" that Daddo brings the boy is a beating or at the very least, a bawling-out, not a gift.
The dinner packed in ice could be a frozen microwavable entree, and it's the only thing young Robert knows how to fix, and Mom can't make dinner for some reason, (or maybe there is no mom) which torques his father off. Or it could be just fresh-frozen food that the boy didn't get a chance to prepare, so dinner isn't ready, which also angers Dad.

Pumped up kicks -- trendy footwear, used as a symbol for a high place in the social hierarchy

He's coming for you -- our boy is going to shoot everyone, so all the trendy popular teens better run for it or lose their lives

The Who – A Legal Matter Lyrics 10 months ago
@[LILJED:24519] It is NOT about divorce. That is a common misconception. The song is NOT about DIVORCE. It is about COMMITMENT PHOBIA or COMMITMENT RESISTANCE. The lady is having all these fantasies of a permanent partnership with this fellow who cannot or will not have a woman in his life as anything but occasional company

It's about adolescence. Pure and simple. Adolescence and how school can really suck the sword if you have a teacher who treats you like poop

Glen Campbell – Gentle On My Mind Lyrics 1 year ago
@[dp10249455:22495] Then it's not memory. It's fantasy. Fantasy is something imagined. Memory is remembering something that was real or has happened. Big difference. My take is, the lady is indeed real, and this fellow cares for her in his way, but he is too fond of what it means to be single to settle down with her, so he'll always remember her and think of her while enjoying the singlehood he can't let go of.

Don McLean – Castles In The Air Lyrics 1 year ago
a beautiful tune about a man disenchanted with urban society and dreaming of green forests and a homespun bride -- but for YONKS, I thought it was John Denver who sang it

Glen Campbell – Gentle On My Mind Lyrics 1 year ago
The fellow in this song (probably a hippie or a hobo) enjoys the company of a certain lady, maybe even cares about her in his way, but has no interest in having her or any other woman in his life as anything other than occasional company. He does NOT want to be exclusive with this woman or anyone else (It's knowin' that your door is always open
And your path is free to walk = you are free to enjoy other people's company, as am I, and I like that). He does NOT want to live with anyone (It's not clingin' to the rocks and ivy Planted on their columns now that bind me = I don't want to share a home with anyone) and he definitely does NOT want to get married (And it's knowin' I'm not shackled by forgotten words and bonds
And the ink stains that have dried upon some lines = the words and bonds are the wedding vows, and the ink stains refer to the marriage license or marriage certificate, the "piece of paper").
So, this man likes this woman a lot, maybe even loves her, but he likes being single more, and she accepts that, and he likes that she accepts that

I think that the fellow that Sir Gordon is singing about in this tune is supposed to be a teenage boy parting with his first sweetheart. Teens tend to experience such feelings more intensely than adults

I have to differ. This is NOT a song about DEPRESSION. It is a song about SORROW. Depression is an ailment, that's all. Just a health problem. Sorrow is a FEELING. If your sweetheart parts with you, or someone you care about dies, or your dog runs away, or you're jilted at the altar, what you are feeling is SORROW. Gordon is singing about SORROW

It's about a gentleman who meets a lady at a bus stop, and the lady becomes his FIANCEE, as opposed to girlfriend (the lines about "someday my name and hers are going to be the same" and "led me to a vow" made me think it was an engagement, rather than just a dating relationship

This weird little tune is indeed about arachnophobia and it reminds me of the scene in that episode of the Brady Bunch where the Bradys are in Hawaii and a tarantula crawls on top of Peter.

Sparks – Perfume Lyrics 3 years ago
What Shannon said. The gentleman in the song remembers his exes when he smells certain perfumes, so he's happy his new girlfriend/fiancee/wife/bride eschews the wearing of fragrances. BTW, the fragrances mentioned in this song all do really exist and can be purchased at any number of fine retailers. :-)

Carly Simon – That's The Way I've Always Heard It Should Be Lyrics 4 years ago
I don't think the woman in the song is necessarily older. In fact, I think she's a young woman just out of college, just out of her teens, and she wants to choose a job field and have her own place and socialize with a lot of company before she does the wifey-mommy thing -- or maybe even bypass the wifey-mommy thing entirely and live her life as a single working woman. Remember, this song was written at a time where marriage and parenthood and "settling down" was what being an adult was all about and if one chose to skip that, then that person was considered an emotional infant.

B-Movie – Remembrance Day Lyrics 4 years ago
It's about war. Specifically, it's about fallen soldiers and how their dying in battle affects their loved ones. I think the line is "Oh, we must have been insane," (as opposed to "oh, it must have been the same") referring to how stupid war is.
