You know how I can tell this song is a whiny piece of crap with all the depth and artistic merit of a nursery ryhme?
I thought it was by Nickelback.
Seriously, if you're going to outright steal someone else's sound, at least have some taste and pick someone decent. |

I don't really agree that its entirely about brainwashing so much as it is talking about cowardice in the face of the enemy. THen again I find the imagery in this song asociated with the First World War so that might be why.
In WWI there was a mulitude of cases where men were ordered "back to the front" despite quite clearly demonstrating massive psychological trauma. It always struck me that the programming alluded to in this song was that in time of war you signed up and fought, not break down half way. Basically until you're dead or a gibbering wreck like many men were reduced to. |

I hardly think Tool are advocating digging a hole and ignoring the news. I think the obvious target in this song is the populist news services like FOXNEWS who seem to think that the abduction/murder of a child is something to be watched 24 hours a day instead of focussing on events with global (or at least national) relevance. Its more about replacing actual news with voyueristic 'human interest' crap and pretending that its in someway relevant. |

I'm right there with you black&green. Grinspoon changed a little with NEw Dentention but that Thrills, Kills and Sunday Pills Album sunk them IMO. Moved too far away from the hard pub-rock sound that they made their own. Still every album, especially Guide to Better Living and Easy rock hard. |

I see this song as an attack on people who liked to chuck one at 'alternative' or grunge back in the day. Always blaming musicians (especially Cobain as something of a figurative head) for making kids feel despondent or apathetic. Which was bullshit of a sort because really what is Kurt (and others) doing in their music? Really this period had many bands who wrote deep meanigful songs that caused you to stop and consider yourself and the way you lived your life.
The end result may have been painful but at least it was more truthful then walking around being "All apologies" without doing anything to fix the rut your life is in.
So in this song Cobain basically tells them "If life's shit, then I'll call it as I see it." |

I think that Opiumfor thepeople is on the right track.
I'd say that he's using the metaphor of an excorcist to talk about the people who dominate others by dint of their personality, talking them out of logic and reason to serve their own purposes. |

I think tylerdurden301 needs to put down the economics textbooks :p.
Has anyone noticed the similiarities in the bassline in this and Never There? |

I think its about being a proverbial slave to someone, having to following them around, being pushed out of your comfort zone for them and basically doing whatevr they say. Or its about drugs. Probably both :) |

Like others have said, I think this is about using downers as an escape valve. Instead of trying to get perked up on stimulants, just embracing whatever's bothering you and going with the flow of it. |

| Queens of the Stone Age – Little Sister Lyrics

I think this song is about trying to corrupt a girl from puritanic lifestyle. From the opening line "Why are you alone, I;m standing out your window" He's quite obviously trying to coax her out of her shell/daily routine. He then asks hr to open up, no you can either have your mind in the gutter (fun) or you could see it as her being so repressed that hes trying to get her to be her real self.
The chorus is about finding a blance so that she can appear to be a goody two shoes while at the same time live a little. The 'shadow' is her family or her older sister (hence the title, it all makes sense now, no incest required! :p). The second chorus shows her out, he's managed to get her away for the evening and they're dancing cheek to cheek (I don't know where the tree comes from). He then basically reassures that he wants just her and that its okay for her to get a little wild. The we get the chorus, a rockin' riff and we're done. Awesome song. |
