It's very much about a kind of 'happy place' you go where no matter hoe bad life around you may be, this place is always there and full of beauty and innocence. I agree with PhilVet - One Crowded Hour is possibly augie's most mainstream song, which is how they got known in mainstream circles, but i went to a show where they played, and this was the opening number, and me and my dad were in awe because this is one of our ABSOLUTE favourite augie songs, and everyone was yelling the whole way though "play one crowded hour!!" There is so much more to Augie than One Crowded Hour, even though it is one of my favourites, along with this and Asleep in Perfection. hm. |

i agree with Guffle, i think this song is about unrequited love to a married woman. My heart bleeds for the man in love with a woman he can't have. Unrequited love is the worst form of torture one can endure. |

handsdown4dbeatles: The other song is called "Dig A Pony" (if thats what you meant - i haven't heard of "Dog a Pony"!), but at the start of this song John definitely says "Pygmy", it is just one of those things that John does! I absolutely love this song, it is so sweet and so sad in so many ways. Also love the fact Paul plays acoustic guitar for it... well, at least for the introduction and ending! John's whistling also = wonderful. |

I'd always seen it as a song about maybe litt'lies sitting at kindy or primary school, and the boy just saying shyly "I want to hold your hand". The first time i heard this song i was just listening to the album and not really paying a lot of attention to the words, then the line "And in her eyes you see nothing, no sign of love behind the tears cried for no-one" and i just burst into tears! It is a beautifully tragic song. i love it. |

Well, i am going to START by praising the band because they are AWESOME and they deserve to have a country named after them!! (or something equally extreme...) The song, to me, is about a boy who met a girl, and just thought she'd be good for a quick fling. But he chose a girl who is just what he has always looked for and he falls in love with her. She on the other hand, went into it feeling that it could become something bigger, and that was obvious to him, which is why he says "That when I tell you that I love you, oh, You’re gonna say you love me too hoo hoo Hoo hoo, oh, And when I ask you to be mine, You’re gonna say you love me too." So yeah, thats what i think its about. Also i'd like to say that it is AWESOME use of the harmonica, and that George's guitar riff in it is great. Also, when it is only one tracked John on the second "That when i tell you that i love you..." etc, it sounds AWESOME, and the "oh"s are, i reckon, the sexiest parts of any song i have ever heard. I swoon whenever i hear it! Lol!! |

When i first heard this song, i immediately thought it was about committing suicide for some reason... i guess i didn't really think about the rest of the words much. Then i read somewhere about someone interpreting it weirdly, and "not as a song about sex as it so obviously was". So i went and listened to it again. I took the lines I need a fix ‘cause I’m going down. Down to the bits that I left uptown. I need a fix ‘cause I’m going down. i took this as meaning he hadn't had any sex for a while, and he was starting to get a bit antsy so he needed a "fix". But this is just how i took it... i don't think anyone can say for sure what it's about... except John... wait, *HE* said it was about sex... hm you could ask him again... oh wait, he's dead. **cries** |
