| Katie Melua – Just Like Heaven Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
i've fallen in love with the lyric "why are you so far away he said / why won't you ever know that i'm in love with you" surreal, to such an honest extent. its far too often i feel this way or see another slighted by the feeling that they perceive unrequited adoration and love whilst their partner goes along unknowing. sad. but beautiful. |

| Horse Feathers – Curs In The Weeds Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
has a very country, rustic feel to it. i hear ray lamontagne a bit, but only because i knew ray before i knew horse feathers. regarding a meaning, i can only pull general feelings from the verses, i'm a bit shy of having a full understanding (however subjective) at first, i think of how terrible things can spontaneously pop up, or even worse how bad can come from good. i'm then directed towards the image of hell on your face, which leads me to thinking about a garden with the growing and dirt images. however, i interpret it to mean someone has been tested, they're aged (grown) and things haven't gone perfectly. complaints arise. i get lost in the father of three verse, and i start to think that the song touches on how traditions and old, stubborn ways of doing things can cause trouble. I don't see this song challenging old methods and practices, but its sort of a blur of family, trials, and persistence. i didn't know a cur was a hunting dog |

| Joe Purdy – Lover's Side of town Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
i've experienced a "midnight picture show" and at times stumbled across the "love talk radio" but nothing compares to how he breaks down the fact that every old relationship evolves into something after the fact. It's an awfully sad reality in my opinion, but there is always the potential for it to turn out better than it did before. |

| Emily Jane White – Time On Your Side Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
i see someone who is searching for satisfaction in all aspects of her life but can only find it in fleeting moments. When she dances, that is one of those times. but her face grows long with waiting and exhaustion from her search, time passes as evidenced by her hair growing so long. the "he" mentioned in the first verse represents just another person searching for that underlying meaning and satisfaction- he's driving miles and making time. still vague to me. |

| Ryan Adams – God Bless the Week (You Go Away) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
the 11-15-2000 bristol flyer show contains a different version that i enjoy a bit more than the one listed here. but i do not complain. as has been the case with other adams' songs, this one strikes a chord in my heart where i realize he isn't trying to cover anything up with drama or bullshit. ryan does what he does best- tell the story of his life without covering up or lying about it. every word is genuine, true, sickeningly bitter and brutal at times. But that's what i've come to love and appreciate from his work- that sincerity so many others lack. this song, it tells me everything i want to hear at the right time and right place. well done, adams. keep em coming. |

| Bon Iver – RE: Stacks Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I keep throwing it down two-hundred at a time It's hard to find it when you knew it When your money's gone And you're drunk as hell all so true, with a cripplingly beautiful sense of reality behind the lyrics. What i cant decide for myself is what i want it to mean when he sings the chorus- what's the load? |

| Amos Lee – Careless Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
seems a troubled man got involved with a girl, and he didn't have the ability nor was prepared enough to commit and make their relationship work. in the course of their relationship falling out, his world seems to come apart as hers seems to have as well "how could you be so careless? "It's a shame we both lost her / and in time lost each other "I hope it felt good my friend." |
|
| Ryan Adams – Two Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| adams appears to be suffering and it very well could be a song about how he needs another to help bring him back. Specifically, it could be about adams' drug problems and alcohol abuse and how his girlfriend, Jessica Joffe, gave him strength to change. The withdrawal adams experienced could be the fracture or pain from not using drugs (the fall) and Joffe and him make up the two instead of adams trying to do it on his own (it used to take one) | |
| Alexi Murdoch – Orange Sky Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| so i'm just looking for soem views on this song. it could be literal in talking about family relationships, but i think there is also some deeper meanings perhaps. anyone care to share their own thoughts? | |
| The Fray – Hundred Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
this song means uncertainty. A vague sense of having no direction while existing in a world that spins, spins, and spins. Each note from the grand piano in the background ringing out with romantic tension and rippling of unease; This song is a declaration of a man's emotions, of his bare soul at the moment when life strikes you down and you respond with staggering disbelief. We all live, more or less, between unsure and a hundred. |

| The Fray – How To Save A Life Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
This isn't limited to the drug-addicted, the passed-away, or the broken-hearted. HTSAL goes out to anyone that feels something is suppressed, some expression, a chance not taken, a door left unopened. For me, it is for the broken hearted. I broke up with this chick a while back, and i felt like i've never had her back as a friend, even though we awkwardly say that we're fine. We never have been, and ever since i've felt some regret because had i known how to do things right, i wouldn't have lost this friend, and for that i connect with this dude, if he had known how to save a life, he wouldn't have lost this friend admist bitterness. |

his world is in disarray he's bracing himself to prepare for the collision he knows is coming she's the cause of it all, and he recognizes everything falling apart, saying he would hold her together if he could But he's shouting out to brace himself because thats what he needs to do to get by THeir love was and is something great But he has to brace himself |

| Ryan Adams – Come Pick Me Up Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| i see a certain validity in what soem of y'all say about him being in this realtionship where she is abusing him, and he wants her to do it so much worse so he can wake up or get past her. It seems so romantic in a weird sense, he doesn't say "get the hell out" in any way, he doesn't imply that he wants an out. He is aware of the situation he is in, construed as bad to all of us, but it seems such a hopelessly romantic effort by him to be so attached to this poison of a girl. | |
| Augustana – Stars and Boulevards Lyrics | 20 years ago |

| Augustana – Bullets Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| The version of this song i heard has different lyrics, but this song, for me, is hard to pick apart. I feel like it's a troubled relationship, where the death of their relationship is symbolized by the gun, and the bullet is the break up? | |
| Augustana – Stars and Boulevards Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| clever, breezybay. I like that. | |
| Augustana – Stars and Boulevards Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
my guess is that this song concerns an old relationship and aspirations for a new one. When they sing the lines: "Look out They’re coming after us with big guns They’re only gonna tell you all the bad things I’ve done Even if the words they say aren’t true, They’ve won Now I’m left here dying in the sun", i think these lines are talking about how people and enemies are chasing after a guy and his girl making up lies or twisting truths so that she leaves him, which she ultimately does, evident by the "they've won, now i'm left here dying in the sun." Then, he talks about how he is moving on with these lines: "Late nights Won’t do me justice ‘cause when I drink I Just get so damn depressed and it’s it’s not like I ain’t trying to get over you it’s just hard to look at all the seasons pass me over too" The guy has been stuck on her, drinking and not sleeping, but he ultimately sees time wasting away (seasons) and decides he is sick of it and needs to move on. The last unique stanza leaves me with the impression that he still needs some closure to finally move on, and also he wants to still be friends with the girl. "One last Phone call from you It wouldn’t hurt much Just like to hear your voice And pretend to touch Any inch of you that hasn’t said it all or read it all I sung my life away" He wants some closing words from her to know it's over, but he also is lovesick. The line "just like to pretend to touch any part of you that hasn't said it all or read it all," i believe he wants to find a fresh part of her that resembles her when they were together, but he realizes that he can only pretend, which is why he sings for relief. As for the chorus, it still puzzles me. The title and repeated line "all the stars & boulevards aren't close enough to you" sounds to me like that guy in the song is lost (the reference to stars, like he is lost in space with no direction) and needs direction (boulevards) to her, whether it be a new girl or the old one. And by saying they aren't close enough to her, he could mean that he can't get far enough away from her, but also that he can't find his way back to her heart. The pieces of the chorus that say "I'm all eyes on that home, seem like i'm never coming home" maybe mean something like he sees what he wants, but he can't get it, for reasons i don't kno yet. Sorry for typos, please tell me what you think |

| Augustana – Stars and Boulevards Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| These guys are going to blow up big... i love the sound of t his song but i've had trouble trying to find a meaning for it. Any help? | |
| Ray LaMontagne – Trouble Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| nice interpretation stoolhardy. But like stoolhardy says, this song's meaning is quite literal. He got into trouble and was a mess before he met the woman that changed his life. Ray Lamontagne is an incredible artist, i recommend that you check out Hold You IN My Arms, another song by him, that is also amzing if not better than this. | |
| Ray LaMontagne – Hold You In My Arms Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I believe this song is about my dilemma. Ray si talking about love he has for someone, but it is unrequited, love never asnwered. So he wonders about the absence of her presence in his arms, and its all too much, too emotional and overwhelming. It seems all too true that his arms are open for teh taking but she dances away and never towards him. That's what this song is about, and the meaning behind already beautiful music makes this so entivingly pretty... | |
| The Wallflowers – Closer To You Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I've got to go with the people who say this says alot about unrequited love... And also follow the tone of those who say that it has such a captivating but haunting tone to it. But that is what makes it so amazing... The depth of the lyrics that allow for such a variety of interpretations is also a marvel... Wonderful. | |
