God Bless the Week (You Go Away) Lyrics
Sad days
Hanging around
And you kick the can with the boys
Run in the park
Sleep until dark
And then go out for more.
Lonely days
I don't give a damn for lonely days
I know you do, and I can't sweat the change
All you wanted from me was nothing
And damn, you gave it to me
Oh, fuck me
God bless the lids on your eyes that you closed when you could have stared
God bless the fumbling tune you sing to yourself when you're scared
God bless the week
God bless the week
God bless the week you go away
What do you say for yourself?
You don't know, and you don't care anyhow
What do you say for yourself?
You don't know, and you don't care anyhow
God bless the lids on your eyes that you closed when you could have stared
God bless the fumbling tune you sing to yourself when you're scared
God bless the week
God bless the week
God bless the week you go away
Hanging around
Run in the park
Sleep until dark
And then go out for more.
Lonely days
I don't give a damn for lonely days
I know you do, and I can't sweat the change
All you wanted from me was nothing
And damn, you gave it to me
Oh, fuck me
God bless the lids on your eyes that you closed when you could have stared
God bless the fumbling tune you sing to yourself when you're scared
God bless the week
God bless the week
God bless the week you go away
What do you say for yourself?
You don't know, and you don't care anyhow
What do you say for yourself?
You don't know, and you don't care anyhow
God bless the lids on your eyes that you closed when you could have stared
God bless the fumbling tune you sing to yourself when you're scared
God bless the week
God bless the week
God bless the week you go away

the 11-15-2000 bristol flyer show contains a different version that i enjoy a bit more than the one listed here. but i do not complain. as has been the case with other adams' songs, this one strikes a chord in my heart where i realize he isn't trying to cover anything up with drama or bullshit. ryan does what he does best- tell the story of his life without covering up or lying about it. every word is genuine, true, sickeningly bitter and brutal at times. But that's what i've come to love and appreciate from his work- that sincerity so many others lack.
this song, it tells me everything i want to hear at the right time and right place.
well done, adams. keep em coming.
