I really do like this song. I never really thought of it as a song about a sexual relationship or anything like that... just deep love. |

This is a good song. I really do think it's sarcastic, though, because like staybeautiful said, it's kind of difficult to say 'shiny happy people' without being a little sarcastic. And, for some bizarre reason, I've always thought the lines 'Put it in the ground / Where the flowers grow' referred to being dead or buried. o_o |

| Nirvana – Where Did You Sleep Last Night (Lead Belly cover) Lyrics

The first time I heard this song, I thought that it was actually a Nirvana song, not a cover, and it made a lot more sense that way. This song really, in my opinion, reflects the last few months of Kurt's life. 'My girl, my girl, don't lie to me... tell me where did you sleep last night?' That's him talking to Courtney. 'I'm going where the cold wind blows'~~ that's his refrence to suicide. (For the record, I think he did kill himself.) I know that it's just a cover, but it seriously perfectly fits his life.
It's so intense. One of the most amazing singing performances I've ever heard. |

I've never quite been able to decide what I think of this song. On one hand, I think it's about religion; the line 'and if you cut yourself, you will make him happy' could possibly refer to suffering and stuff like that. And a 'laundry room' could be confession, cleaning your sins. The constant 'and you'll think you're happy' could be a reference to the idea of religion controlling you, so even if you're in pain and subconsciously you hate it, you will think you're happy because it's 'supposed to be' right.
Although it could also be about an abusive relationship. I don't know. I sort of think that they're both easily what it could be about. eh. |

I love this song! It's so gorgeous, and I don't think it gets enough recognition in her catalog. Anyway~~
To me, this song is about selling out... being a musician and losing that purity that you once had, just so you can 'have it all'. But once you have it all, you're sort of going down into hell... Like you can have anything that you want, but you're not happy. |

This was an improv, during the recording of LE right? She kept screwing up 'Girl' so they took a break and she just started playing this.
I don't actually think it means anything. I think it's a subconscious thing, like what she's thinking and she's just singing it and it actually makes sense. Sort of. If it DID have a meaning, I think it's just a very random, very disconnected social commentary. |

I heard this song was a part of some 'lost' Tori record, and she recorded a couple of songs for it during the UTP Tour, but it never got released, and this is the only song that survived? I remember reading a fairly long analysis about it, I thought Beulah Land was a reference to Heaven/ Marriage.
I think it's about her relationship with Eric, and how they were so close for awhile, and then they broke apart, and she's leaving him and going somewhere else. |

I love this song; it's probably my favourite on LTT. I personally think it's about Courtney's childhood, being bullied and never feeling like she fitted in. |
