| Mazzy Star – Fade Into You Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I just discovered this song a few weeks ago. I almost cried when I heard it, but could not understand a single word of the lyrics as I drove in traffic. I still am overwhelmed by the whole experience of this song, and I listen to a lot of music. | |
| Bonnie Raitt – Dimming of the Day Lyrics | 16 years ago |

This is such a gorgeous song, well written and well performed. The harmony is beautiful. It has such a melancholy feel, though. It seems there has been a breakup: "What days have come to keep us far apart A broken promise or a broken heart". Such longing, and such love, is expressed in the first verse. But what really pulls me in are the lines: "You pulled me like the moon pulls on the tide, You know just where I keep my better side". In this day where so many song express anger and sex, this expression of desire and need from a softer side is so appealing. |

I listened to this song today, and ended up playing it several times. Why? I found that I had the biggest smile on my face, and I felt real joy. I agree with a lot of these comments - lovers, lovers lost, heaven. This song is brilliant in its lyrics, music, ambiance. It is at once all of these things to each of us. Perhaps Van knew what he was doing, maybe not. But its hard to say what he intended. All I know is that I can see both points of view portrayed in these lyrics, and I can't think of a song that makes me feel so dynamite... "And I shall drive my chariot Down your streets and cry 'Hey, it's me, I'm dynamite And I don't know why' " |

I really love the sentiments expressed in this song - so many to experience. The last verse just beams beauty and honesty: The lord is my shepherd, He leadeth me in pastures green He gave us this day, Our daily bread and gasoline Go under the willow, Park her up beside the stream Shoulders for pillows, Lay down your head and dream Shoulders for pillows, Lay down your head and dream Just beautiful, leaning on each other, with little else to get by on, in a rough world. |

| I listened to "Sailing to Philadelphia" again this week - what a great CD! This song really is an excellent ballad. The comments above really speak to the talents of MK in creating this wonderful tune. The guitar work is just wonderful. The lyrics speak of an innocence and purity in a harsh land that is so romantic. Renault25 - I felt the same way, that this could relate to an internet introduction as well. If you haven't yet, I suggest you check out MK's other solo CDs - more of this is waiting for you. | |

Hi Folks! I love this song too - the music is relentless, the lyrics are captivating, and TVOTR rocks. I agree with heatherjane on meeting a whirlwind of a girl. Whatever she is, commander, controller of men, he finds her, and seeks to be with her. The simultaneity of danger and love/lust is too powerful to ignore. BTW, Durga is a Hindu goddess, a blindingly beautiful warrior who fights a powerful demon. This explains the first verse, and the "man eater" nature of the girl, perhaps. |

| The Mamas & the Papas – California Dreamin' Lyrics | 19 years ago |

well, it not a hippie thing. Its about people. Its a classic folk rock tune, one of the greats, performed by some of the best vocalists of the time (and i wasn't even born then). To me, its has mostly a literal meaning - dreaming of socal in a cold, wintery place. This is quite true of those who grow up in socal (KVet's post reflects that). And it captures that feeling so well, that it applies here in Indiana today, as the snow flurries outside my window. But perhaps there is a bit more. Notice the leanings toward deception. Is it possible that the socal lifestyle is that different from those in the seasonal areas that deception comes so easily? ("pretend to pray", "If I didn't tell her, I could leave today"). Don't take it too far, just a thought. |

| Led Zeppelin – Fool in the Rain Lyrics | 19 years ago |

I have been a fan of zepp for a while now (I was 8 in 1973), and love to enjoy the music and lyrics, and also read what others think about them. To me, this song has a neat meaning if the lyrics are interpreted a little more literally, and coupled with the music. The "fool in the rain" title, along with the music, brings a big smile to my face whenever I hear this tune. I realize this boy is drawing all the wrong conclusions due to his mistake, and the climax occurs when, in the last two verses, it is revealed to him, and he feels like a fool. Listen to the music with this in mind, and you can laugh with him at himself! BTW, i really appreciate the metaphorical interpretations i have read above. The sign of a good lyricist is the opportunity for multiple interpretations that stand the test of time. Zepp has proven masterful, can we all agree? |

| Stevie Ray Vaughan – Little Wing Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| This song is beautiful. SRV's guitar sings here. I absolutely love this song - to me this is Jimi's finest creation, and this remake is an incredible tribute and achievment. If anyone wants to know what blues guitar is all about, play both the JH and SRV version of this tune. They go as a pair, complementary, not competitive. First, listen to Jimi's version, and understand the lyrics as a tribute to a woman's ability to bring a man's world to right. Then, listen to Stevie's version, as the guitar perfects the emotion and expands that appreciation. This is music at its best, friends. | |
