If I were to think about Scandi's explanation and Liektotally's question, "She lays me down She lays me" kind of makes me think the housewife cheated. So, Maybe the person refered to as "I" and "Me" telling her she can do better than the guy, is politely convinceing her to leave the guy so they can be together. I dont know. "She wears her tears on her blouse confused and racked with self-doubt she stole the keys to my house and then she locked herself out." Self doubt and confusion could drive someone to be unfaithful (like a prostitute if you've ever heard that theory) And she felt dirty and it felt wrong to cheat on the guy who spends the afternoon between her thighs, so she tells herself she cant ever go back, and locks herself out from his world. Hmm maybe I read into it too much. |

Im 13 too... I feel really young now. Dire Straits are one of my favorites though, along with Pink Floyd, Bowie, ELO, The Cars, The Eagles, and theres more but im tired and dont feel like thinking. But this song is great, I love the guitars. |

| I agree with everyone who said its about relationship phases. When I reread the lyrics it sounded like he had no where to go, was drepressed, so he went to church. But church didn't work out that well, though he listened, it just got him back to where he began? The pain makes him tell himself he'll never do it again. But he'll just end up there again, no matter what he does? I dont know. I like this song though. | |

Man when i first heard this song I thought "insanity?" Reading the lyrics again it sounds like a creepy cult of outcasts killing people. XD i know its not about that but it was a thought? "The time has come to change this To stretch the thought a mile We’ve lost that kind of spirit We want it back today The time is right to change this To make the life we know They took what we were given We’ll get it back again " Sounds like regaining the urge to rebel again maybe for rights i dunno? "Somewhere someone’s gun, someone’s gun is laughing " - a laughing gun eh? the first thing that jumped into my mind was "suicide" but wouldnt that change my whole theory unless the song was about a group of elite people who is hated by someone else and the someone else kills themselves? Someone being punished for something, now their gettign revenge by killing them? that seems most obvious. I dont know. Am i getting to caught up in this? XD Someone help me out here |

I agree with todesengel. "I would change my direction " obviously pointing out that he could change and not drown, unless drowning in a good thing? It also reminds me of how I feel when people tell me that im not going to amount to anything in life, when actualy I've already done much more than they ever will. Im willing to drown in others ideas of failing, but I know thier wrong, and let myself be looked down upon for my faults that only give me the advantage. I do whats right for me, not whats right in others eyes. But thats just my personal experiences applied here. So.. |
