in the first verse Colin sings "hovel," not "hollow." he's referring to the boys' "rat-trap hotel," whereas in the second verse, the "hollow" is the busstop shelter. |

i feel like this song is less about suicide and more about NOT committing suicide. yoni has chosen to revolt against the absurd, rather than let it take him under. |

i'm assuming the mountain being referred to is the one on the album cover that poses the band's name to us. Patience almost seems like the punchline to the band's name.
the two verses together remind me of the whole "life's a trip, enjoy the ride" mantra.

here's my silly piggyback on that--
the nature of the video seems to be a mock up of a "play of life" scenario. the story begins midway, when your youth begins to wane and you realize the true and awful tragedy that is the human condition. one almost feels as though they are watching life from the perspective of someone about to die, like a movie projected into the mind. we have no choice but to play the role of the actor, and endless cycle of seemingly meaningless steps, tasks, conversations, expositions, climaxes and conclusions.
something like that. |

is the one of the most personal, evocative, beautiful songs ive ever heard. i saw them live and thought it was one of the most incredible shows ive seen. then i got this cd, and i heard this song, and i was astounded that a band thats so crazy and strange could put out something this incredible. |

i love how at the bottom of this page it tells me:
CHEF KNIVES
Quality Brand Name Chef Knives.
Compare & Save! All Great Prices.
anyways. i saw them play this live, and Colin asked the lighting guy to "bathe the stage in red for this song". it was tres creepy.
i think that for this song to really become a fantastic song is to understand that this is no bedtimestory. this is a very real retelling, and quite accurate in the feel. addicting almost. |

really, i think this is sposed to have a bit of a humorous air to it. i saw them play this live and at the end everyone shouted the "remember what she does when you're asleep". it was cool. but yeah, i mean, its kinda saying "hey, your mom could be fuckin people for money! you dont know! so stop belly achin'" |

okay, i dont mean to be one of those dudes who's a dick and is like "no! you're wrong!" but theres DEFINATLY inuendo in the song: "We laid on the mattress and tumbled to sleep
Our eyes align, swaddled in our civies
Cradled in our dungarees"
"Our rifles blaze away"
i mean come on.
but that aside, this is a truely gorgeous song. |

look you guys. if you guys bothered to check out anything about the band, you'd find how freaking nonsensecal everything they do is. now, interpret it how you want, but know that its not exactly meant to mean something incredibly deep. not that im dissing them. they're amazing. |

i completely agree with ...uh..."hella" on this one. its VERY well done when mixed with sa yit ain't so. id say it ones of the few rap songs i really love. im not like a follower of jay-z or anything so i wouldnt know really, but it sounds liek he's talking about his growing up, and how (i guess) he kinda feels like he was heading towards disappointing his mom what with his turning to the streets for life. this may or may not be a side-effect of his father's leaving them/whatever his dad did. |

| Bright Eyes – Lover I Don't Have to Love Lyrics

"I just heard Bright Eyes for the first time- and I honestly do not like any of his other music, espcially after hearing some weird creepy interview with connor"
hahahahahahaha, that interview was more than likely the one at the end of An Attempt To Tip The Scales.
anyways, as sad and all that shit that this song is, i dunno, i comes off as severely sarcastic to me. i only see this cause its SO much more blunt than any of his other lyrics. typically connor is one to put his lyrics into at least small metaphors, but here hes just blatently saying "i want a girl who's too sad to give a fuck" it almost sounds like hes mocking himself. i might be completely wrong, but connor is one to throw punches at himself (see comment at top about An Attempt To Tip The Scales). btw, this is a great song. just not when fucking teenyboppers are all "OMGthis song speaks, like omg, SO much to meOMG" |

does anyone notice how theres a HUGE gap between the dates that people wrote for this song on the first page? how it jumps NINE months at one point? THIS is the reason why people dont like thier music being played on the radio. the people who understand and feel the music are likely to get into it initially cause, i mean, duh. we all know what happened in that month that people started writing again. Garden State. THATS when EVERYONE decides to jump on the bandwagon and "OMG FALL IN LOOOOOVE" with these songs. yes, it is an amazing song, but as pretentious as this will sound, there ARE people not worthy of this quality of songs. people who come and deficate all over the true meaning behind the music. the people that remix it to make it a "hip-dance-beat" or whatever the fuck. theres a special feeling you get when theres a band that you have all to yourself. sure, its pompus and greedy, but i think the band would rather have a handfully of fans who are in love with their music and understand it as opposed to a myriad of freaking pricks who just like it cause its catchy. THATS why. and just cause you hold that opinion doesnt make you "emo", it makes you pretentious. duh, |

okay, this may not have to do with anything, but i was wondering if anyone could interpret it (if it holds any substance): the first two solos (as the cd case notes) are performed by John Fruciante, and the third is played by Omar. i realize they both have very different playing stlyes, but on that third solo the entire song takes a VERY dark turn. the largest difference is that Omar doesnt play in a musical scale. this style is not to be mistaken for just random playing though. its an avant garde style that can be heard ALL throughout Wilco's A Ghost is Born. anyways, it gives the feeling that something has gone wrong. whenever i hear the song, i get this image of omar "overtaking" john. it just seems like something that large of a change might be significant. also, the drums change significantly. |

i really like:
but believe me
there's a better
arnold palmer to play your course
and a better bob villa
to build your windows
and your doors
it makes me think, even though its a really weird way to say it, this guy really cares about whoever hes talking to, and he wants him/her to be happy cause they could have it so much better..... |

| Say Hi – The Death of Girl Number Two Lyrics

wow, no comments on this one yet? i am a HUGE fan of SHTYM. ive got all their albums, and out of all of them this song is probably the best i can think of. it really makes me feel like im missing something in my life.
This song is more than likely about a girl that the lyricist cared alot about/loved and that completely just became the complete opposite of what he thought she was and went off on him and so on. he says "but now I know that wasn't really you" saying, obviously, that the girl who said all those aweful things couldnt have been that girl he knew and loved.
but now I know that wasn't really you, Girl Number Two.
But now I know that wasn't really you.....so beautiful...... |

btw, to all you guys who think its some political statement, if you think about it, you can wrap any song into a political statment. i mean, its not like every song out there or every band out there is written or writing about current events. i mean, i know i wouldnt really want to bother people with my view, and i dont think Gorillaz are ones to do that. judging from thier other songs, i dont tihnk it is. like i said, its probably what lostlo said, its pretty Buddhist if ya ask me. take that from one himself. |
