It is about their days playing and watching at the Phoenix Center The first verse is when he was told about the stuff back-stage. The crushed velvet furniture, the candles burning. The purring of animals, when singers started growling and yelling rather than screaming. Ghost stories handed down of bands that used to play, ones that came before them. The ghost on stage is knowing you're playing the same place your idols once stood. Teenage Death Boys, and teenage death girls, obviously, the Goth kids that would come out to shows with them. |

Okay, this has been bugging me as no one has gotten it right. Muscle Shoals is NOT a famous studio, but rather a TOWN in which FAME Recording Studios is located, in which a lot of Motown hits were recorded. And obviously, the Neil Young comments were about Southern Man, as it's IN THE VERSE right after Young is mentioned. |
