Dance to the Music Lyrics

(Hey! Get up! and dance to the music!
Get on up! And dance to the music!)

(Acapella)

(Chorus:)
Dance to the music!
Dance to the music!
Dance to the music!
Dance to the music!

All we need is a drummer
for people who only need a beat, yeahh!

I'm gonna add a little guitar,
and make it easy to move your feet.
I'm gonna add some bottom,
so that the dancers just won't hide.

You might like to hear my organ,
I said ri-i-ide, Sally, ride!
If I could hear the horns blow,
Cynthia on the ground. (?? ??)

Listen to me!

Cindy and Jared got a message that says,
"All the squares go out!" (weeeeee! yeah!)

Listen to the boy says:
(acapella)

Chorus

I never got that ‘Ride, Sally, ride’ quote. I always thought that Sally would refer to Sly's organ but I never actually figured it out.

I came here wondering about the same thing. I thought it might be a reference to another song. Lou Reed has a song called "Ride Sally Ride". . . but it came out in 1974, more than half a decade after this. (Maybe Lou was quoting Sly?)

It also calls to mind Sally Ride, the first American woman in space. (And, as far as we know, the first gay person in space.) But she joined Nasa in 1978 and became famous in the 1980s.

If those three things had happened in the opposite order, I'd have a nice tidy theory to expound...

@RGDyaz There was a song around that time w/the line 'all you want to do is ride around Sally, say, ride Sally ride.' I believe it was 'Mustang Sally'

Can you imagine, an interracial group in the 50's? Just goes to show MUSIC is colorblind and it brings people TOGETHER. We need more of that.
