| I agree with most of the people above with the whole "forbidden relationship" theme, it really works with the song. But here's one thing I'd like to argue, I read early on by Littlelubee talking about Christian views on sex before marriage and thought I'd make an argument... I would first like to say that being a Christian myself I certainly don't see things the way this person does. The whole thing about sex before marriage is about purity, because in the Bible it speaks of sex being an amazing act of love for another person, and doing it with people left, right and centre can trivialise it, see what I mean? And a Church should be one of the places on Earth where you feel the less judged, but yes there are Christians out there who "condemn" others and act with great hypocracy (excuse spelling), but the fact remains that that is not what the Bible teaches and to presume all Christians behave that way because some do would be a great (and incorrect) generalisation. Thanks for reading just wanted to argue my case. | |
| Sister Hazel – The World Inside My Head Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| I've recently fallen in love with this song, if anything it's just thw way it sounds, the way they sing it *sighs* so awesome. I think what this song is about is enjoying a moment for a bit too long, clinging onto something instead of moving on, almost like he went into a dreamworld for a while. This song talks about how he feels better when he paints his days with "purple seams and left out grays", basically he's living in his own little world. "Where did everybody go without me?" this is the attatchement to the real world, he's seeing that people have moved on and he's still just where he was when they left him still fantasizing (I'm sure I spelled that wrong). Alright I hope that came together alright, basically the song is about day dreaming, but on a larger scale... I think. | |

Me and my friends often discuss this song and I have a few things to say on it. I did hear that this song is about NYC after 9/11 and it's about how his relationship is related to the city's general mood, and this song is definately the sequel to City Love (Lydia is in it, and it's based in NYC and it shares the lyric Covered in Rain). I think Covered in Rain has different significance in both the songs, in City Love it represents happiness and those moments that you always remember ("I remember when you came to me covered in rain" that was City Love but not the most accurrate quote) and in this song it represents depression, being "Covered in Rain" is the way he's surrounded by all this sadness and it's got him down he's covered in it, it's about how the city is falling apart as is his love, things aren't okay, the beginning of the song is like, "yeah, I'm depressed, things suck but I've got this amazing girl", but I think later on his depression (and the city's in general) has killed their relationship and he's like, "The world sucks and now my only bright spark is gone" and then he breaks into solo. Not only the lyrics are crucial to understanding the song, the solo is all important. Me and my friends were listening to the solo and my friend said that it was almost like he was crying through his guitar, it starts of all depressed kind of like he's quietly sobbing and asking "why" but then it breaks into anger the point where you're flipping out, so upset that you have to scream it out. But yeah this song is amazing and I hope all that came to make sense to people, to honest I don't think I understand most of what I wrote... oh well. God Bless, Mozes |

This song is incredibly deep and full of meanings but I think I agree with the above posts about how this song is about love and total acceptance of each other as people. But I do have something to add, before I saw that someone said that the spelling of "Amie" in the song translated to "friend" this is true but there's another interesting thing, the "e" at the end of the word indicates it's conjugated to female. This means that "Amie" could be refferring to a friend a who is female, though this doesn't directly translate to "girlfriend" as such, I think friendship is crucial to relationships, well those are my two cents. By the way thanks other people for posting as well, I've found all the comments really intruiging, fun to read and actually helpful to understanding this song which is quickly becoming one of my favourites. God Bless, Mozes |
