They also have songs like "Candles Can Melt on Us for All I Care," so it shouldn't be surprising that he would go a little off-track for humor's sake. |

It does, but apparently Bonnie's father died when she was 4 years old. So the second verse doesn't really match too well. |

Dear Okie,
It would appear as though you have not only made an ass out of yourself, but also left out a few commas and a period in the process. Furthermore, it is unecessary to censor one's language on this website.
Regards,
Chib. |

Especially the part that says "the time has come for you / to shoot your leaders down". Seems like this song's begging for controversy. |

Music can have a huge impact on a person's mentality, because in music is emotion. Studies have been done on this numerous times. Even if it's just a subtle message, the human subconscious will pick up on it. It's like being around somebody who has a negative attitude all the time, then; it'll start to rub off on you.
And i doubt Christian music would have changed them, but feeding their own hatred with the kinds of music they listened to most likely didn't help. |

*strong; oops
And to add to the similarites between the song and the movie, I think it's largely based off of Harold's story about the explosions at school. He escapes and beaks back home, and his mother doesn't know. And ten the police show up at the door and pronounce him dead. After seeing how strongly she reacted to him being dead, he decided that he "liked being dead."
And hence the point of the song: "maybe if I was dead, she would love me more" |

Why would they lie about it being about Harold and Maude? The parallels between the two stories are somewhat strong, and I can't imagine most of their fan base knowing what the movie is.
Looking at it from the Jesus standpoint, I really don't see any string similarities.
1) Jesus didn't WANT to die. He knew he had to do it, but if he didn't have to he wouldn't.
2) As said before, Jesus didn't fake anything
3) The purpose of his death wasn't attention-seeking, it was sacrifice
And looking at the last track on the album, I think if it was about Jesus' death/resurrection, they would've just said it. |

I adore the lyrics to this song. Especially this line:
"Every day I am rescued again"
It reminds me of the song "Great is Thy Faithfulness".
"Morning by morning, new mercies I see."

I agree with AL4, it's like that saying, "We know there's crooked because we know what's straight". If there's evil and darkness and suffering, there has to be good and light and joy as well. |

@Don't : The song doesn't say there is no net, the narrator of the song is asking if there is one that could catch us and stop us from falling. So it's more a wondering of where that net is, than saying there isn't one at all.
And I can't think of a single Switchfoot song that says there isn't hope at all for us or the world around us, so a message like that from this song would seem rather inconsistant with Jon's lyrical style. |

The line:
"Still my broken limbs, you choose to mend.''
Definitely seems Christian, like how God will love us no matter what we've done in the past. |

I listened to it about 500 times so far, and after thinking about it a while, what I got out of it was that it's talking about a what makes people fall morally. |

I think this song is about a father leaving his family. And the son (the narrator) is upset about it. But he then finds God, an even better Father. |

This song talks about family, and how important your family can be. It also kind of says that managing a life like that needs help from God. |

I wasn't too sure about what the song meant so I asked my mom for her thoughts. She Thought that the song was talking about jehovah's Witnesses (John Woo> J.W.) I don't mean to offend any Jehovah's Witnesses that read this...
My mom says that the way they draw people in is through fear ("fear finds 'em knocking about").
Also, most of them are trained to give certain responses to any debates you may have, making things bad for you as a christian (...I'm just making him meaner with every flick of my Gucci-wielding wrist) and the more they knock your ideas down, the more discouraging it becomes for you... it could be a real-faith killer. |
