Beck – New Round Lyrics 19 years ago
this is one of the few tracks off the information that i really enjoy. it toes the line on corny, but he manages to toy with our perceptions just enough to where this song is actually endearing. of course the contradictions/paradox of the relationship in the song is pretty identifiable. good beat, with effective variation. solid.

Arcade Fire – No Cars Go Lyrics 19 years ago
i like everything being said here. i just want to add that perhaps the click of the light refers to your last action... your last choice, and that yeah, the start of the dream is all the metaphors previously stated and erally the end of consiousness... the end of choice and physicality... where no cars go.

The Broken Remotes – Lou Reed's Drugs Lyrics 20 years ago
This is a kick-ass, slow(er) and simply rockin' song off of "Throw Me the Keys." I think this has to do with one of Jon Leahy's personal relationships form highschool in which he sees the girl again and remembers all these things about her and realizes that he no longer has her, but cares about her (yet lives without her). Clearly a bunch of memories are thrown in here (arguments, Lou Reed - Jon covers one of his songs: "pale blue eyes" -, OMFUG, B-sides). Still, this song means a lot to me 'cause I definitely feel like this about a ton of relationships. Great song, can't believe no one commented yet.

Iron & Wine – Promise What You Will Lyrics 20 years ago
This is a beautifully artful song. The imagery is glorious as well as the story told. One can see the interplay of love and time placed against the backdrop of a metaphorical nature. "Time will take it all and it will, you'll see," despite the love he promises.

An example of the imagery is the mountain that represents their relationship in the first verse.

I just love Iron and Wine's sound.

Louis XIV – Louis XIV Lyrics 20 years ago
this band can simply play good music. it is refreshing to hear just straight up simple rock with catchy lyrics. their two instrumentals on their first self-titled cd are proof to this band's talent if you are one of those who need to hear complicated riffs and mind blowing bridges in order to appreciate the music. with louis xiv, just accept them as excellent (and wierd) rockers. great opening song.

Brendan Benson – Between Us Lyrics 20 years ago
wow, this song has got to be about me or something. I really like the riff and the notes that BB hits going of one verse going into the bridge to the other verse. the lyrics just straight up explain how I feel sometimes. this band should be more popular. all in all, a good everyday song. (the only line i don't get is "There isn't anything between us", which is the refrain, it just doesn't seem to fit, but it sounds good)

Brendan Benson – Alternative To Love Lyrics 20 years ago
I first hear this band on Conan O'Brien and downloaded them right away. This is a great cd, and it has a suprisingly unique quality. They just know how to play straight up good music. This is my favorite song on the album. I guess that's because it seems to speak directly to me. It seems that I'm always trying to say this about relationships that I'm in.

btw "Forever it's a joke" might actually be "Forever in search of"

The Album Leaf – Eastern Glow Lyrics 20 years ago
This is a great band. I don't know how far the post-rock genre will go, but the original sounds these guys make are more than just catchy. They are inventive and place The Album Leaf ahead of the game. Musically, they create the perfect blend of instruments to simply chill to.

Beulah – Wipe Those Prints and Run Lyrics 21 years ago
It is a great band and a great cd. Beulah shouldn't stop playing. Their lyrics and sound are too good for them to fizzle out so quickly. On a different note, check out The Broken Remotes... a different uprising band.

Blink-182 – Here's Your Letter Lyrics 21 years ago
I'm not one to wear my emotions, or thoughts for that matter, on my sleeve, but in order to make an assessment of, what I think is, a very heart-felt song from a very heart felt cd that stems from one of the bands who made punk popular. Yes, usually one looks at Blink-182 as an annoying sellout of a band, with less musical talent than one would hope for. BUT, first, credit must be given where credit is due. They were one of the first widly accepted punk bands, and sometimes MTV and such just ruin artists' images, and the band can't be blamed for that. This cd, though on the surface is definitely much more meaningful, still could have been fabricated to keep up with the times or to try to stay "fresh," but that does not mean the songs can lose their meanings for the individual. This song in particular is a blend of their old style, with the simple, repetitive, popish, punk chords and lyrics, and their "new" style, which puts a deepness behind the words and a bit of a darker touch. Now, personally this song affects me cause it seems to speak of a relatively short relationship, usually the only kind I ever get, that is basically at the beginning of the end. Let me support that by saying that it seems to be taking place at a time when the guy seems just sucked in too far over his head. He may be too scared of the realtionship, he may have to much dirt in his past, or he just may be devoting too much effort or time into the relationship, hence the "Oh, fuck, I can't let this kill me, let go." And I speak from personal experience (trying not to sound too highfalutin) when I say I think he is worrying that the girl simply doesn't feel the same way as he does. It is killing him that he likes her so much, yet she just doesn't have the same feelings, and it is "kill"in him, so he must "let go." Plus, the line "Do you still feel the same way?" supports that. The relationship, though as I said short obviously means a lot, "My life just lost all meaning." "I need some more time to fix this problem," merely means his emotions; he has to sort out his feelings. So, he ends it, very haphazardly. "Cut the skin to the bone,
Fall asleep all alone,
Hear your voice in the dark."
^The guy just can't stop thinking about her, and it is painful to be alone as he sorts all this out (probably not living together {short}). The relationship has just stopped clicking, but he feels the same way: juxtapose: "Apoligise for the past,
Talk some shit, take it back,
Are we cursed to this life?" to: "Lose myself in your eyes," and "I'm dying in this silence," He just wants it to work so badly, and all he can do is write a confused letter explaining all of this.
