this again is another master piece from the lastest amd probably best one from the lawrence arms. in short this song is about bren putting into perspective a break up situation. the opening lines are talkin about his personal connection with the novel "Cacther In The Rye" and the infamous Holden Caulfield that all teenagers have in them. But really follow the lyrics to the song he basically keeps on sayin the world is a dumb place and i keep on pissin you off and i keep on finding more and more out about his girlfriend. toward the end he starts to discuss about you should be happy wiht who you are. the confussin lines "i am written on the subway walls...bitter when i fall" he talks about Paul Simon's lyrics tagged in a subway, and gettin pissed off about his g/f leavin him.

dude i can relate to this soung so much. first the whole lot of the description of an area, bren is describing the poorer side of chicago he lives on. and he keeps on talkin bout how he cant deal with his problems and hes hitting the bottle, and he doesnt understand why his girlfriend hasnt left him yet, but he still shows her his love. lifes a surprise you never know what you'll get [or get into for that matter] hence the title "I'll take whats in the box monty" |

first peggy sue is a kick ass song. i remember this girl we had a thing goin and she had a really fucked up family and all, but anyways. things never really worked out bewteen us, but how this song is connected to her. well she never really figured out what she wanted to do when she wanted to grow up. and she's a senior this year, and last time i talked to her she said she goin to join the army. showing how parents fuck up their childern.
but the song talks bout tom comforting one of his friends when the friends parent tell how they are fuckin up all the time and such. pretty simple meaning actually. |

first off, every has to realize that the lawrence arms always has a little metaphor underneath everything. but i think this what it means.
it tells how this guy is feeling either really lonely or sad or both [cuz of a girl] and is sick of everything and cuts his wrists. and then the girl finds out and finally starts to care now and its too much for her at once. the verse "the mirror is tellin half truths..." its him looking into the mirror even he looks alright he really isnt. "these stolen words feel like mine" i think it comes from the old line 'I could die for you' and thats what happened. then he realizes that this was a big maistake and hits him at once and he starts apologizing to her. and he tells the girl how he knows what shes feeling. i dont qute get the line then "you've been searching for yourself in other people's eyes" i think maybe shes too scared too be herself and so she just acts like her friends. the finally bit i think is finally the guy goes to a counsler and no matter how much they try to help him he cant tell them how he feels.
