I only heard this song yesterday on the radio, and I was instantly hooked. I really like Chad Kroeger's voice, but couldn't believe it was really Nickelback until the DJ said it out loud. This song is very different from their former releases. Anyway, for me this song is simply about GROWING UP and MOVING ON. It's about remembering your childhood and youth and cherishing those memories, but also knowing that it is the past and it's time to say goodbye. The singer bittersweetly reminiscs about the places he used to go and the life he used to live, back when he was a young man/boy. But he also realizes that things have changed and while he will never FORGET, he accepts that these things have become MEMORIES. He has grown up, he has moved on, he's living a different life now. I think it's an amazing song, because he tells you to treasure your memories, the moments of your childhood and youth and make them a part of the 'you' you are today. While you have to accept the past as the past, it doesn't mean you have to move on without it. Letting go without forgetting, moving on without loosing touch. In the end it is goodbye, the singer is off to greater things now, but he will alway carry these feelings and memories in his heart. |

The message behind this song is rather simple, in my opinion, but very genuine. It's simply about someone telling a friend who is going through difficult times "Everything will be alright in the end and in the meantime, while you're still feeling sad, I am here to make it better. I will help you through this." Lights will guide you home = You will find your way home, work your way through the bad times and you will receive help and guidance on your way (from me or something/ someone else). No matter what - you are NOT alone. And ignite your bones = Make you feel better again, make you feel warm inside after feeling cold and lonely, despaired and sad for so long. And I will try to fix you = I will make you feel better & I will help you MEND. I'm going to be here when you need me and I will help you through. There are brighter, happier times ahead, no matter how bleak your current situation seems. It is a perfect friendship song for me, it's about helping one other through despairing and difficult times, could be a break-up, a death, anything which could relate directly to loss. Coldplay themselves said once this was their first song dealing explicitly with LOSS. I especially love the "I promise you I will learn from my mistakes" part because it's basically saying: "Hey, I know I am not perfect nor will I ever be, but I am here to help you, here to help you heal and that's what matters." A song like no other, it never fails to leave me with a warm feeling inside. It never fails to comfort me and give me strength. |

Loved how they said they basically stole the entire musical structure off Kate Bush's "Running Up that Hill". My dad always said "I know that song from somewhere" when he heard SOS on the radio, even though it had just come out. Guy said they tried to recreate the drum-part of the Kate Bush song and then they went straight to copying the chords, melody, and guitar as well (or almost ;). And it's true: you can pretty much sing the lines "You're running up that hill, you're running up that building" over the "All that noise, and all that sound" parts - all the time keeping the "Running up that Hill"-melody. |

Yes, Coldplay originally wrote this song for Johnny Cash to sing, but they never got a chance to record it with him, because he died. Chris Martin also said on VH1's Storytellers that his father was a big Johnny Cash-fan. I think the boys have done an amazing job with this song. In my opinion, the lyrics sound almost un-Coldplay-like - they would have fitted Cash perfectly. I cannot put my finger on exactly what makes the lyrics (and the entire song) stand out from Coldplay's usual material, maybe because the sound is more like folk-music. This is an amazing live-song for them as well. At the concert I was at they played in a very reduced form, with Will at piano, Jon at the guitar and Guy playing the harmonica. Especially the ending with the "Just say you'll wait, wait for me."-part is amazing. |

I am absolutely honest when I say that this my favorite song in the world. It's so simple and beautiful and heart-wrenching, and too good for words. One of my best friends and me have this pact that no one but us will ever understand the song in the way we do. Of course, others say "it's beautiful", "it's so sad" and bla bla, but IMO this song is just so much more. It means so much to me and touches me on so many levels, it's almost fragile. I'd rather have someone not know or listen to this song that have them listen to it and see them dismiss it as just another depressing piece, because it's not. It deals with the loss of a a person you loved, and I think here this person has died. That explains the "God couldn't let it live" line. The singers tries to explain to himself why the person is gone and comes up with the explination that he/she was too beautiful of a soul and had too big of a heart that God could not let him/her live in this world. It would eventually have broken him/her. Of course it's not to be taken literally, but I think THAT'S the way of thinking that lies behind the "God"-line. You try to make sense of something that seems so very senseless. |

This song is so disco! ;) It makes me wanna dance every time and when it played at a party last weekend the whole dance floor was full of people, it's a great high-energy song. Makes me think of the warm summer nights spend with my friends dancing at parties. The two beats just before every chorus just make you wanna sing along and those 80s synthesizers are great fun! I basically just think he's just trying to make fun of her new boyfriend who maybe looks a bit girlish (might be because of long hair or something), but I may be wrong. |

| The Killers – Mr. Brightside Lyrics | 20 years ago |

This song is simply about jealousy in my opinion. He's talking about a girl he wants to be with, with whom he only shared 1 kiss ("it was only a kiss, how did it end up like this?") so far and while this kiss has made him fall in love it apparently didn't do much to her, considering the fact that she's sleeping with someone else. This tortures him on the inside, even though he wants to make it appear as though he doesn't care. He plays the part of Mr. Brightside and wants to believe he was destined for something greater anyway. This song will probably always remind me of this summer, even though it's already a couple of months old. It's just something about the energy of this song that gets me everytime. I absolutely love the "I never" part at the end of the song, it makes me wanna turn the volume up every time. |

This song is just beyond amazing, it gives me the chills almost everytime I hear it- It starts out so intimately and completely reduced and then slowly begings to pick up in complexity. I love the instrumental part, when the guitar chims in. I first heard that song on MTV's Live Leak and I was just so moved. I reminded me of one of my friends, to whom I have grown very close over the course of the past year and this song just fits so much. It's speaks of loyality, trust, friendship, love and the knowledge that you have somehow who will carry you and fix you if everything just seems to go wrong. This song touched me so deeply, that right after I heard it for the first time, I sat down and wrote a letter to my friend, in which I quoted the lyrics. It#s one of the most beautiful Coldplay songs ever, if not THE. |

| Doesn't that song convey that typical 'summer-feeling' in the purest sort of way? Summer, sun, ice-cream, driving along the road with the top down, the beach... | |

That song will always remind me of that one night, when one of my friends drove me home and we just sat outside the house on a small bench and talked for more than one hour in the middle of the night. Talked about everything and nothing at all, just sitting there, just the two of us. When I went into my room later that night and switched on my stereo, the song played and it just fitted. Not so much lyric-wise, but mood-wise. It's an amazing song. |

This is my favorite song of all time. No matter how often I listen to it, no matter how much time goes by without me listening to it - it never ceases to make me feel something indescribable. It's just plain amazing. Poetry. This song somehow always reminds me of those very early spring days, the ones when the snow is still lying on the ground, but the very first rays of sunshine are beaming, making everything look so fresh and new and hopeful. To me the song is about loss. About wanting to hold on to something so badly that it slips away from your grasp even more. You know? Like that feeling when there is a person whose face you don't want to forget, whose face you want to remember no matter what. And the harder and the more you try, the fuzzier your mental picture becomes, the harder it gets to piece it all together again, until - at one point - there is just blankness. Because you tried too hard. "There is nothing in the world that I ever wanted more, than to feel you deep in my heart. There is nothing in the world that I ever wanted more, than to never be breaking apart All my pictures of you." So for me it is a song about loss in general. It can be loss through death or also simply the loss of a friend over the years, when one day you realize that you've drifted apart. That your friend has become a stranger. While there was nothing you wanted more than to preserve that friendship, it just fell apart. No matter how hard you tried to keep your pictures of happy memories from breaking, they eventually did. It's a natural process sometimes. The song is about memories you are desperatedly trying to hold on to. At all costs you are trying to etch those 'pictures' in your mind. And because you are trying too hard they are being distorted. And one day you realize that they don't reflect the truth anymore, because you put too much effort into them, too much emotion. |

Probably my favorite JEW song of all time. Just last night I was driving home with a friend of mine when this song came up on the CD player. Already the guitar intro makes my heart simply swell with emotion. For me, somehow this song could be about two (best) friends who simply share just about everything with the other, dreams and fears, the good and the bad stuff. Still this song conveys some sort of ambivalence, like one of those friends would like them to be more than just friends. There are some very tender and loving feelings between those two, and while to one, these are just 'friendly' feelings, the other would like to see something more in them. The whole song, for me, paints the picture of one of those two people, reflecting on an evening between them that has just come to and end. With all the emotions just pouring out, the pain and but also the knowledge that there will probably never will be such a thing as a relationship between them. He's not absolutely heartbroken, but there is a certain sadness. He's not over heels in love for his friend but certainly there are feelings that cross the border of friendship, even if only in a very gentle and careful way. But those are just my 2 cents :) |
